Fiat will start selling 500e in Oregon this summer
Thu, Apr 24 2014Even thought demand in California for the Fiat 500e electric vehicle is growing, the fun little EV is about to grown its sales to the north. Fiat US chief Jason Stoicevich tells Wards Auto that sales of the EV will start in Oregon this summer, adding that green-minded Portland will likely be a strong market for the model. Fiat 500e demand in California is "fantastic." This year's first-quarter sales of the gas-powered and EV variants of the 500 were up about 19 percent from a year earlier, as a recent TV ad campaign featuring Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and the model's availability at about 220 dealerships appear to have been effective. Stoicevich didn't give any specific sales figures for the 500e, though he did say demand in California is "fantastic." "After its introduction in California last year, the Fiat 500e has been a great success for our brand in just a short period of time," Fiat spokeswoman Angela Bianchi wrote in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen while confirming the debut of 500e sales in Oregon this summer. "Oregon is the second-largest ZEV (zero-emissions vehicle) state after California." Late last year, Wards Auto named the 500e motor to its 10 Best Engines list, making the model the first Fiat ever to receive that honor. The 500e has 111 horsepower and can go 87 miles on a single charge. The 500e also won Road & Track's 2013 award for best electric car in November as the model was praised for its power and handling. 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking takes the hatchback into the big leagues
Wed, 28 Nov 2012Didn't think it was possible to pull and pry at the diminutive Fiat 500 with enough gumption to make the Italian hatchback qualify as a large car (according to the EPA, at least)? Witness the Fiat 500L Trekking, seen above. It's a full 26-inches longer than the regular 500, and it's grown six-inches taller and wider.
All that stretching means there is 42 percent more interior room in the 500L than the standard car, which means it's a good thing the only engine available is Fiat's 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo four-cylinder engine, as seen in the Abarth, with 160-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A manual gearbox is standard, and a dual-clutch automatic is optional, each with six gears.
The Trekking model features unique front and rear fascias and 17-inch alloy wheels to set it apart from the base 500L, and the black wheel arch and body-side sill moldings make it look more aggressive. Eight people injured after Fiat crashes at LA auto show
Tue, Nov 22 2016A man crashed a Fiat 500 that was available for test drives at the LA auto show Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times. He hopped a curb and struck a concrete planter, which shattered, sending shrapnel toward bystanders. The crash resulted in eight people being injured, with six of them going to the hospital. KTLA reports that one of the hospitalized people was the driver of the car. The Times reports that no one sustained life-threatening injuries. As seen in the photo above, the Fiat 500e used was a test car for visitors of the show. Fiat Chrysler is one of 11 car companies providing vehicles for guests to try out. The Times also reports that an LAPD spokesperson said the driver of the Fiat may not have had a valid license. It's surprising this wouldn't have been noticed when the driver signed up, as the LA auto show's test drive rules state that a valid license is required to drive. As of this writing, it appears that the show is continuing as normal, along with test drives. The show is open to the public until November 27. Car companies will also be offering test drives throughout the week, including the last day of the show. Related Video:
