Limited-run Ferrari F12 GTO supposedly headed to Frankfurt

After spy shots of a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in Italy wearing some sticky rear-end camo went public, insiders have told GTspirit that the car is an F12 GTO and it will come to this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It's hinted that the Gran Turimso Omologato changes to the 6.3-liter V12 up front might increase output from 731 horsepower to 800 hp by using the HY-KERS unit from the LaFerrari. That module provides an extra 163 hp to the supercar. True to GTO form, more power would come with less weight, the purported F12 GTO going on a diet of more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds). That would get matters of mass down to a stated curb weight of around 3,140 pounds. More technology could make the jump from its supercar sibling, all hidden underneath more aggressive bodywork and a GTO badge. A production volume of just 650 cars is mentioned, which, if true, would give buyers more chance to procure one; the Ferrari only made 599 units of the 599 GTO. Photographer streaks Ferrari California T in glow-in-the-dark paint

Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner is known for splashing paint and deconstructing cars to create beautiful and unique images. Like Ferrari, Oefner combines art, design and science in his creations. So he was a natural choice when the automaker began looking for a unique way to introduce the2015 Ferrari California T to the world. After taking the California T for a test drive, Oefner wanted to convey the feeling of the swift 553-horsepower vehicle, according to PetaPixel. Oefner scaled up his past experiments with color and blasted $190,000 the sports car with gallons of UV activated paint. By doing it in a wind tunnel with nothing but UV lights blazing down on the car, he hoped to capture the quickness of the California T while the car itself remained motionless. The resulting video is astonishing. The Ferrari looks as if it's being pulled out of the darkness by brilliant rivers of glowing color. Ferrari 250 GTO may have set new sale record at $52M

Records are made to be broken, and it seems that one may have just been snapped again. An Italian website is reporting that a Ferrari 250 GTO, owned by American collector Paul Pappalardo, recently sold for $52 million.
Now, this is far from confirmed - Pappalardo responded to questions about the sale saying, "I do not confirm these things, I have no comment about!" - and if it's a private sale, it's unlikely that we'll ever know the exact amount of the transaction. If that figure is correct, though, it easily eclipses the $35 million made in a 250 GTO sale in April of 2012, as well as the $27.5-million sale of a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider sold at RM's Monterey auctions in August.
What makes a car that had 39 examples built more valuable than one that had only 10 units produced? Racing pedigree. The 250 GTO is a racing legend, with each car having a unique provenance that is more than enough to add some serious value. According to 0-100.it, the GTO in question, 5111GT, found its first owner in French racer and winner of the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jean Guichet, back in 1963. The Frenchman used the V12-powered racer to win the GT category of the Tour de France Automobile in that same year.
