Ecclestone against F1 cockpit protection
Sun, May 1 2016Bernie Ecclestone has made it clear that he is not a fan of the Red Bull Aeroscreen, which was tried by Daniel Ricciardo on Friday, in Sochi. The FIA will continue to study both the Red Bull device and Ferrari's Halo, and will make a decision by July 1 about which will be added to the 2017 rules. "We're going to get a lot of pitstops now when they have to stop to clean the screen and things," he said when asked by Motorsport.com about the Aeroscreen. "That will be good." Asked if he liked the look of it or preferred the Halo, he said: "Not particularly. I don't like any of them," adding that the sport should do "nothing" with regard to cockpit protection. "I just think to try to simulate something when you've got a stationary object, and you're firing a tyre at it, when in the race when the wheel has come off normally both cars would be moving. "So how can you simulate it by having a car stationary? And how would you ever know what's going to happen with a wheel anyway? "If it hits the thing it would probably bounce off anyway. So I don't know," Ecclestone added. Quizzed on Lewis Hamilton's suggestion that danger was part of the appeal of the sport he said: "In his case I don't know whether the money made any difference as well. "We can make it more dangerous if he wants." Related Video: This story, by Adam Cooper, originally appeared on Motorsport.com, the world's leader in auto racing news, photos, and video. Ferrari presents its 2016 F1 car, the SF16-H
Fri, Feb 19 2016Ferrari has presented the Formula 1 car with which it hopes to take the fight to Mercedes during the 2016 season. The SF16-H, as the new single-seater will be called, sports a different livery, as speculated in the past weeks, with white paint appearing on the engine cover, the front wing and in front of the cockpit. Ferrari is believed to have made significant changes to the engine that will power the car this year in the hope of catching Mercedes after a promising 2015 season. The Maranello squad finished second behind the German squad in the standings, bouncing back from a disastrous 2014. Sebastian Vettel won three races for the team on his way to third in the standings. The German will be partnered by Kimi Raikkonen once more. The car is expected to take to the track on Sunday for a filming day at Barcelona before testing kicks off on Monday at the Spanish circuit. Video proof that LaFerrari has a pure electric mode
Mon, 20 Oct 2014Typically, a hybrid car, with its gas engine and an electric motor/battery pack is able to run on both forms of propulsion independently of each other. That means you can sip gas, run on pure electricity or some variation there of. The Ferrari LaFerrari is not like other hybrids.
See, the successor to the Enzo has batteries, an electric motor and a great, thumping V12 engine, but unlike its rivals from McLaren and Porsche, it has no standalone electric mode. That's been Ferrari's party line since day one. But have the Italians been exaggerating a bit? Judging by this video, it seems like a real possibility.
The video comes from what we're guessing is a European track day. It shows a black LaFerrari stealthily sailing through a tunnel on pure electric power, which it shouldn't be able to do, before its 789-horsepower V12 fires to life.
