1967 BMW 2000CS VINTAGE RACE CAR
This truly extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, no expense spared, hand-built, 1967 BMW 2000CS vintage race car was often the most talked about car on the track as it campaigned successfully at the Monterey Historics, and other vintage races across the Pacific Northwest from 2007 to 2011. This car was restored, prepared, and maintained by the vintage race specialists at Racecraft in Woodinville, WA, who are widely lauded for their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Over $200,000 was invested in the development of this vintage racer and its SOVREN Vintage Motorsport Logbook Number 1111 fully documents its 18 racing event history. A selling price of $58,000 puts you on the track at a fraction of the net worth of this remarkable racer. The BMW 2000CS is the little-known grandfather of all modern BMW coupes, pioneering many of the design elements seen in BMW cars through the present day. The striking wraparound headlight and tail light assemblies, sleek roofline, famous Hofmeister Kink, and other design elements have proven to be timeless - the use of a single flush headlight wraparound glass enclosing high and low beam reflectors (while originally criticized by the American press) proved to become integral to all BMWs today. Also noteworthy is that Alpina selected the BMW 2000CS as one of its first tuning projects - AT 2000 CS - the first according to some accounts. (This car is not a documented Alpina car.) This truly remarkable vintage racing BMW - perhaps one of the most remarkable ever offered for sale on eBay - is one-of-a-kind, and one of the most unique BMWs in the world. It will compliment any collection - manufacturer, tuner, and private alike, and will certainly appreciate in value as the 2000CS eventually claims its rightful place in automotive history as the car that led BMW down the road toward its legendary status as The Ultimate Driving Machine. The car has a fresh 200HP Terry Tinney motor with less than 100 street miles. The car's finish is exquisite throughout, maintained impeccably through its racing career, and with the front fascia having been refreshed after its final race. Click the links below for articles, videos, and a slide show of the car build: Carma Article: "Monterey Historics - Awesome Alpina" The following is a listing of modifications made while building the car into a vintage race car: Electrical System - There is a panel mounted under the stock heater controls on the dash, this panel has a row of circuit breakers that protect everything in the electrical system. There are no fuses, these breakers can be tripped manually by pulling the button and reset from a tripped position by pushing them. Rear suspension - The rear brakes have been converted to 320i backing plates, shoes, drums, etc. - The rear axles and CV joints are a combination of 2002 and 320i units to get the length just right. - The rear cross member has been modified to mount a 2002/320i rear diff assembly, the unit in the car is a limited slip 3.9 ratio. - The trailing arm mounting points are custom made to allow for caster and camber adjustments - The upper rear spring mount have been removed and threaded collars have been added with rear spring adjuster cups for ride height adjustments. The mounts are tied into the roll cage. - The shocks are Bilstein sports, non-adjustable Front suspension - The front struts are the original ones from the car cut down for Bilstein sport inserts, coil-over adjustable spring perches and camber plates have been added. The front brake calipers are from a ’92-’94 Toyota 4-Runner with custom made 2 piece front rotor and hat assemblies. The hubs and bearings are stock. Transmission - The trans is a Getrag 245 close ratio unit with a “dog-leg” first gear and 1:1 ratio 5th gear. - There is a custom transmission mount - The flywheel is a JB Racing aluminum unit with uprated E30 M3 clutch. - There is a Tilton internal slave cylinder that operates the clutch. - The driveshaft is custom made to the correct length and to mate the close ratio transmission to the 320i rear diff. Ferrari confirms Vettel in, Alonso out
Thu, Nov 20 2014For the past several months, a big shift on the Formula One grid has been rumored for next season, but with a big piece of the puzzle now confirmed, much of the speculation can end. Ferrari has announced that it is parting company with Fernando Alonso and bringing in Sebastian Vettel to take his place. The move is a big one for both drivers – each multiple World Champions in their own right – who have lead their respective teams for half a decade now, Alonso coming second in the championship three times with Ferrari, and Vettel having scored four consecutive titles with Red Bull. Vettel has long been a personal protege of former Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher, having won his first grand prix in a Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso at Monza in 2008. Now confirmed by the Scuderia for a three-year deal, Vettel will be driving next season alongside Kimi Raikkonen, who won the title for Ferrari in 2007. That was the same year in which Alonso last drove for McLaren, the team for which he's all but confirmed to be driving next season. The announcement from Woking reportedly hinges on the team's decision over who will drive alongside him, between Jenson Button, Kevin Magnussen or another driver altogether. The confirmation from Ferrari does, however, put to rest wild rumors that the series would move to three-car teams and that Maranello would field Alonso as well as Vettel and Raikkonen. Welcome Sebastian – Vettel and Raikkonen 2015 driver pairing Maranello, 20 November 2014 – Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has reached an agreement of three years duration with Sebastian Vettel, who will drive for the team as from the 2015 season. The driver line-up next season will consist of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. "Scuderia Ferrari has decided to put its faith in the youngest multiple champion in the history of Formula 1" – commented Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal, Marco Mattiacci. "In Formula 1 terms, Sebastian Vettel is a unique combination of youthfulness and experience and he brings with him that sense of team spirit which will prove invaluable when, together with Kimi, they tackle the challenges awaiting us, as we aim to be front runners again as soon as possible.
Ferrari embroiled in legal battle over 21-year-old's Facebook page
Fri, 28 Mar 2014Ferrari is facing a court battle in Switzerland due to alleged copyright infringement over taking over a Facebook fan site. If the suit is successful, it could cost the company millions and harm its reputation on social media.
Sammy Wassem started the Facebook fan page for Ferrari when he was 15 and eventually grew it to over 500,000 followers. In 2009, the company congratulated the him on the site's success, but said that "legal issues" forced it to take over the administration, according to Automotive News Europe. Wassem could still use the site, but managers had oversight.
Wassem asked Ferrari for financial compensation to keep working on the page but continued creating content on it for the next four years. Eventually, the company terminated his administration rights, and In 2013, the he and his father Olivier filed the lawsuit against the business alleging it owes payment over 5,500 hours of work and copyright infringement for taking over the page. They are asking for 10 million Swiss francs ($11.3 million).
Ferrari 250 California record headlines $28.5M Baillon barnfind collection
Mon, Feb 9 2015Barn finds arise from time to time, bearing undiscovered treasures hidden away in some shed for decades before being unearthed and brought to the auction block. But few have ever compared to the Baillon Collection. And now its liquidation is complete, bringing in millions in sales on the back of frenzied bidding. Discovered just months ago, the Baillon Collection comprised some 100 vehicles said to have been rescued from the crusher by one Roger Baillon, a French transport magnate who intended to eventually put the cars on display in a museum. Unfortunately that never came to pass, but when the cars were found in sheds on his estate in rural France, the world took notice. In dire condition and in need of much TLC, 59 of the cars (those worth selling) were consigned to the auctioneers at Artcurial, which just handled their sale during the Retromobile classic car show this weekend in Paris. The highest price was fetched by a rare 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider with the highly desirable covered headlights found in the barn under a pile of old magazines. One of just 37 made, the drop-top Prancing Horse sold to an unnamed international collector for a record $18.5 million – far above initial estimates and, despite its condition, the most ever paid for a 250 GT of any kind. An American collector paid $2.2 million for the 1956 Maserati A6G bodied by Frua, also well above its pre-sale estimate range. A '49 Talbot-Lago T26 bodied by Saoutchik more than doubled even the top of its estimated value at $1.9 million, sold to a European collector. All told, the Baillon Collection brought in a staggering $28.5 million in sales, comprising over half the value of the lots, 89 percent of which Artcurial sold at the Retromobile auction.
