1967 BMW 2000CS VINTAGE RACE CAR

This truly extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, no expense spared, hand-built, 1967 BMW 2000CS vintage race car was often the most talked about car on the track as it campaigned successfully at the Monterey Historics, and other vintage races across the Pacific Northwest from 2007 to 2011. This car was restored, prepared, and maintained by the vintage race specialists at Racecraft in Woodinville, WA, who are widely lauded for their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Over $200,000 was invested in the development of this vintage racer and its SOVREN Vintage Motorsport Logbook Number 1111 fully documents its 18 racing event history. A selling price of $58,000 puts you on the track at a fraction of the net worth of this remarkable racer.

The BMW 2000CS is the little-known grandfather of all modern BMW coupes, pioneering many of the design elements seen in BMW cars through the present day. The striking wraparound headlight and tail light assemblies, sleek roofline, famous Hofmeister Kink, and other design elements have proven to be timeless - the use of a single flush headlight wraparound glass enclosing high and low beam reflectors (while originally criticized by the American press) proved to become integral to all BMWs today. Also noteworthy is that Alpina selected the BMW 2000CS as one of its first tuning projects - AT 2000 CS - the first according to some accounts. (This car is not a documented Alpina car.)

This truly remarkable vintage racing BMW - perhaps one of the most remarkable ever offered for sale on eBay - is one-of-a-kind, and one of the most unique BMWs in the world. It will compliment any collection - manufacturer, tuner, and private alike, and will certainly appreciate in value as the 2000CS eventually claims its rightful place in automotive history as the car that led BMW down the road toward its legendary status as The Ultimate Driving Machine. The car has a fresh 200HP Terry Tinney motor with less than 100 street miles. The car's finish is exquisite throughout, maintained impeccably through its racing career, and with the front fascia having been refreshed after its final race. The front brake calipers are from a ’92-’94 Toyota 4-Runner with custom made 2 piece front rotor and hat assemblies. The hubs and bearings are stock.

What new F12 has Ferrari got in store for Frankfurt?

Mon, Jul 27 2015

Ferrari is widely expected to be preparing a new version of the F12 Berlinetta to unveil at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Assuming the anticipation doesn't prove futile, the question at this point is what that new variant will look like. At present, we're looking at two possibilities. One prospect would see the Prancing Horse marque present an updated version of the F12 to replace the existing model – much like the 488 GTB is replacing the 458 Italia, the California T replaced the previous California, or (perhaps more poignantly) the 575M supplanted the 550 Maranello. Ferrari has, after all, undertaken a pattern of updating its core models half-way through their eight-year life-cycles. The F12 was introduced in 2012, so a refresh for 2016 would be right on schedule. The other possibility, as Autocar asserts (and as we reported last month), would be to introduce a more potent model to slot in above (and alongside) the current F12. That would follow the pattern established by its predecessor, which yielded the hardcore 599 GTO to slot in above the 599 GTB Fiorano. Those latter three letters would be a more likely choice for the performance-focused F12 than the Speciale name that Autocar proposes and which was already used on the ultimate version of the naturally aspirated 458. Either way, we'll likely be looking at more power and less weight. The F12's 6.3-liter V12 currently produces 730 horsepower, and speculation has placed the new version's output anywhere between 760 and 800 hp. In any event, output will likely be enough to steal bragging rights away from the Lamborghini Aventador SV and its 740 horses. Just what form the revised engine will take remains a big question mark, but don't expect it to go turbo like the aforementioned 488 GTB and California T. Ferrari is anticipated to keep forced induction for its eight-cylinder models, and go with a hybrid boost for the twelves. The enhanced F12, then, could adopt an electrically boosted V12 like the one found in LaFerrari, or it could continue on unassisted for another four years until the model line is replaced entirely. One way or another, we're less than two months until showtime, so we'll find out soon enough.

2016 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix recap: another wild show on and off track

Mon, Apr 18 2016

Normally we use this space to provide a lengthy recap of the weekend's Formula 1 race, but we're going to try something different since most folks reading this know what happened at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday. Instead, we'll alight on what we saw as the big issues in and around the race. Let us know what you think in Comments. Proper qualifying is back. Thank goodness. It only took a month of embarrassment to fix it. And so is passing! For the third race in a row, big performance improvements at the ten teams behind Mercedes-AMG Petronas and a wider tire selection at this race graced us with opening stints filled with dicing cars. Seeing the McLarens on screen doesn't make us cringe. Manor doesn't only make the global feed when it's being lapped. We've been complaining about parade races for so long that we forgot excitement was possible without rain or wholesale regulation changes. Yes, Mercedes is still the king of the jungle, but there are some other proper midfield beasts on the hunt, too. Malfunctions up and down the grid did help the show in Shanghai, like Lewis Hamilton suffering perpetual troubles, Nico Hulkenberg's runaway front wheel which red-flagged Q2, and Sebastian Vettel's and Kimi Raikkonen's flubbed hot laps in Q3 that let Daniel Ricciardo slip by into second on the grid. Come race day things went all Grand Theft Auto at Turn 1 on the opening lap, sending some of the best cars to the pits. Then came Ricciardo's puncture while leading, then came the Safety Car – all by Lap 5. Nico Rosberg got 38 seconds of airtime on the way to victory – at the start and the finish, and that happened to be his margin of victory, too – otherwise he was a ghost. Everyone else was struggling and juggling. Rosberg's win at the Bahrain Grand Prix put the German at five consecutive victories going back to last year's Mexican Grand Prix. The history books show that any driver who's won five straight contests has gone on to win the championship. With his triumph in China, the German has won the season's first three races, the history books again show that the other nine drivers who've pulled that off have gone on to win the championship. Rosberg, 36 points ahead of his teammate in the standings, is having none of it. He said of the other victors, "But they didn't have Lewis Hamilton as their team-mate." Perhaps Mercedes was right not to make an engine deal with Red Bull last season.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas assemble by the shore at Pebble Beach

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

Seeing one Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people because so few exist, and those that do generally trade hands for tens of millions of dollars. At this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, there are 20 of these amazing rarities lined up next to each other.
Situated right on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, you can actually hear the waves lapping against the rocks during the quiet moments. Just a few feet away these thoroughbred Prancing Horses are on display and being polished to perfection. The Testa Rossas represent some of the most important historic racers in the world, and the mix here include a prototype, a Le Mans winner and models that counted drivers like Phil Hill and Dan Gurney behind the wheel.
Not all Testa Rossas were created equal, though. Ferrari built both factory racing and customer versions, and they came with curvaceous bodies from Scaglietti and a bit more angular look with dual snouts from Fantuzzi. Many of them also had further modifications from there to make each one about as unique as a snowflake. Check out our fabulous gallery of all 20 of these beautiful red heads on display together.
