Well-maintained 6-speed Modena Coupe on 2040-cars
Emeryville, California, United States
1999 Ferrari 360 Modena
Part of a long line of compact mid-engined Ferraris dating back to the legendary 206 and 246 Dino, the F360 Modena bristled with innovative technology upon its introduction. The biggest news was undoubtedly the decision to switch to an aluminum chassis, which increased rigidity by 40% while simultaneously decreasing weight by 28% over the outgoing 355. The engine in the 360 was slightly larger and more powerful, displacing 3.6 liter and producing 400hp, providing a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 189mph. In short, the car is everything that modern Ferrari should be: fast, exotic, visually arresting, and an outstanding driver’s car. Most cars were equipped with the F1 paddle shift gearbox with electronically actuated clutch, though a few examples were fitted with conventional gated shifter 6-speed manual transmissions. This particular example has been well maintained and is nicely equipped with 6-speed transmission, challenge grille and fender shields. In recent years, it has belonged to two California owners who have maintained the car at the same shop, Stewart’s Automotive in Sacramento, California. The car has a new battery and also received new rear rotors and pads 500 miles ago. Additionally, the exhaust manifolds and ABS module were also replaced, which are common failure points on these cars. The invoices show regular preventative maintenance and the occasional other fix (new wiper switch, alternator cable etc.), as well as a new clutch at 31,000 miles and a belt service at 35,000 miles in May of 2008. Consequently, the car is due for a belt service at this time. Miscellaneous service records go back as far as 9000 miles showing that the car has been properly cared for. Cosmetically, the car makes a strong impression and is certainly impactful as only a yellow Ferrari can be. The paintwork is generally good, with a few scuffs and scrapes to the front bumper and one significant blemish in the front bumper that has damage to the paint but has not punctured the bumper cover and could be remedied without replacing the bumper. The paintwork is otherwise attractive and presentable and the car has clear bra to protect various areas of the paintwork as well as the headlamps. The lights and glass are excellent and the wheels are excellent overall with small areas of curb rash on each right wheel and none on the left wheels. The interior is generally in excellent shape other than the typical stickiness to some of the plastic trims on the interior, which is common on Ferraris of this era. The leather is excellent across the board, which minimal wear to the driver’s seat bolster. The dashboard is very good, with minor shirinkage around the defroster vents only. The carpets are excellent and the contrasting yellow stitching looks very smart. The engine compartment and trunk are both unmodified and clean, as befits a well-cared for and properly maintained car. The trunk is surprisingly capacious. The car is fitted with Quicksilver exhaust, which is well made and impressive-sounding. The car is complete with spare tire kit, tools, and books. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and complete example of a usable high performance modern Ferrari. It has a clean Carfax and although it is due for a belt service by time, it has been properly maintained and comes with a thick file of service records, as well as books and tools. It has few modifications and has escaped the invasive changes from which these cars sometimes suffer. Furthermore, it is a 6-speed example, which is a more effective solution than the early F1 gearboxes used in Ferraris of this period. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider tops Gooding's Saturday auction at $15.18 million
Mon, 18 Aug 2014During the weekend's automotive smorgasbord in Pebble Beach, Ferrari has played a huge roll. Twenty examples of the ultra-rare 250 TR, better known as the Testa Rossa, were prominently on display at the Concours d'Elegance, and the Prancing Horses have been top sellers at many of the auctions. You can chalk up one more on that list with a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider with a scarce, optional hardtop included going for $15.18 million at Gooding & Company's sale on Saturday night. Ferris Bueller would find it so choice.
In all, the auction house brought in about $60.4 million during the night, and 17 of the cars on the block sold for over $1 million. None of the other cars on Saturday managed quite the stratospheric highs of the California, though. A 1955 Aston Martin DB3S was the second-highest seller at $5.5 million. The next four top vehicles were all Ferraris with final prices ranging between $2.09 million and $2.365 million. Clearly, investors are in love with the Prancing Horse these days.
Check out our gallery, and scroll down to read the auction house's announcement of its top Saturday results.
Marchionne could become Ferrari CEO
Thu, Aug 27 2015Don't think that just because FCA is spinning off Ferrari into a separate company that Sergio Marchionne is giving up any control. Not only is he already chairman of the Prancing Horse, but he might also become its next CEO after Amedeo Felisa steps down, anonymous insiders claim according to Automotive News Europe. The dual roles would put the sportscar brand's future in Marchionne's hands, while he continues to run FCA. Rumors of Felisa stepping down emerged in July, but Ferrari never made an official announcement. The reports suggested that he could leave in September. Execs at the Prancing Horse are now working to decide on a replacement, but there's nothing official in place yet, according to Automotive News Europe. Felisa might maintain an advisory role after retiring, as well. If Marchionne takes charge, the move would come just as Ferrari becomes a newly independent entity. The Prancing Horse's necessary paperwork is already filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and the IPO is expected in October. Marchionne took over as Ferrari's chairman last year after Luca di Montezemolo's resignation. As boss, he intends to increase production to 10,000 units a year from 7,000 annually under Montezemolo. Among the projects in development is a revived Dino. Related Video:
Ferrari LaFerrari is so nice, we say it twice [w/poll]
Tue, 05 Mar 2013Forget about the F70, the F150 and the F150th Italia - this is the Ferrari LaFerrari. Earlier this morning we got our first official look at the successor to the Enzo throne, but now we bring you live shots of the LaFerrari straight from the Geneva Motor Show floor.
There is nothing about this car that isn't impressive - from its 949-horsepower hybrid powertrain returning breakneck acceleration to the aggressively curvaceous body creating a new evolution of design for the storied automaker. The best part of the LaFerrari's design is that there is no single focal point, but one of the more interesting elements of the car is its canopy-like cover protecting the occupants. Every detail of the car has been perfectly sculpted into the carbon fiber body creating an appearance that is probably only outdone by the car's overall performance, which Ferrari promises will include a top speed more than 217 miles per hour and a 0-62 mph time of under three seconds. Ferrari says the LaFerrari will be its fastest street car ever.
While it's hard to make criticisms about of the LaFerrari, there will undoubtedly be many regarding the car's name, but with a design and performance numbers like this, we're sure this car could've been called the Ferrari LaBradoodle and all 499 examples of the hybrid supercar would've been snatched up just the same. After checking out the details posted in a press release below, let us know if you think the Ferrari LaFerrari is a worthy successor to past Maranello supercars like the F40, F50 and Enzo.
