Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta frolics topless in the rain with Evo

With nearly 600 horsepower from a sonorous 4.5-liter V8 nestled in an already fantastic platform, Ferrari might have outdone itself with the 458 Speciale. At this year's Paris Motor Show, it took the idea to the next logical step by letting buyers drop the coupe's top with the limited-edition 458 Speciale Aperta. Evo recently got the chance to drive one of the 499 of them; unfortunately, it was pouring rain the whole time. Still, when you get an opportunity to drive such a special Prancing Horse, you don't pass it up, no matter what the weather is doing.
All of the standing water on the road does allow for a chance to see how the Aperta's traction control works in the slippery conditions, and the car handles it with aplomb. In fact, the host has a hard time taking the big grin off of his face for the entire clip. Check out the video to watch this special, new Ferrari and its wonderful V8 go singing in the rain.

Xcar celebrates Ferrari F12 Berlinetta as the end of an era

Few automakers are still making V12s. And even fewer of them are still naturally aspirated. The Bentley Continental, Rolls-Royce Wraith, BMW 760i, Mercedes S600, Pagani Huayra... they're all twin-turbocharged. That makes the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta something of a dying breed, and a masterpiece to be celebrated – as Xcar has in this latest video. With a 6.3-liter V12 up front under that long bonnet, driving 730 horsepower to the rear wheels, the F12 is old school – and perhaps the best of that old school before downsized turbocharged engines and hybrids finally take over for good. That'd consign atmospheric twelves like the Berlinetta, the Lamborghini Aventador and all those Aston Martins to the dustbin of history as the last of their kind. BMW hires Ferrari chief engineer Fedeli

There's going to be a little bit more Prancing Horse in some future BMWs because the Bavarian brand is hiring Ferrari chief engineer Roberto Fedeli to join the company in November. Fedeli's new position is still somewhat of a mystery though, and he reportedly might be lending his talents to the high performance M division or possibly even Rolls-Royce. When asked by Automotive News Europe, BMW said that it "currently can't say what his role will be."
Regardless of his new job, Fedeli was a big get for BMW because of his strong résumé. He has been with Ferrari since 1988 and led the engineering for the famous Italian automaker's vehicles since 2007. Fedeli tendered his resignation in September at around the same time that chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced his decision to leave the company. However, Ferrari told ANE that there was no connection between the two events.
