2001 Ferrari Spider (Euro)

Original and only owner.  The VIN is ZFFYT53B000125373.

This is a European specification car that I bought new while I was living in London.  I determined early on that the car was better suited to my vacation home in Florida and engaged Autosport Designs of Long Island, NY to do the EPA and DOT work.  I titled the car in Florida in 2003 where it has remained.  I returned from London in 2005 and have since been using the car regularly.

Obviously not for the red/tan buyer, this monochromatic car is pretty low key for a Ferrari.

The interior, roll hoops and convertible top are all in gray and the exterior is Argento Nurburgring.

The car is accident-free and in excellent overall condition.

The exterior has a few stone chips and there are a few small scratches over the rear bumper cover, but they are not really noticeable.  I never tracked the car but I have driven it almost 24k miles.  Chips happen.

The interior is likewise in excellent condition.  All the sticky switch gear has been cleaned or refinished.  The upper dash shrunk, which is not uncommon under the Florida sun.  I had it replaced by Ferrari and it remains in great condition.  I had ceramic film installed on all glass to help prevent a reoccurrence.   The driver’s seat shows a little wear (see photos), but it’s in great condition for being 13 years old.  The passenger seat rarely held a passenger.  The original floor mats were wearing out, so I added the ones pictured.  The originals will go with the car.

I'm happy to accommodate a pre-purchase inspection at buyer's expense.

SERVICE HISTORY:

The car has been timely and fully serviced exclusively by authorized Ferrari dealerships (first by Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale and more recently by Ferrari of Tampa Bay).  I will gladly detail dates and descriptions of services performed but will not scan and email copies.  Of course, the extensive and complete service history is available for in-person review by potential buyers or their representatives, and the records will go with to the new owner.

The car underwent an annual service in Nov 2013.

Before that, in May 2012 at 21,981 miles, the car underwent a belt service and had a new clutch installed, including new flywheel, ring gear, etc., etc., etc., to the tune of $16k after discount.  Included in that service was a new A/C compressor to resolve a slow leak.

The new owner will get a car with absolutely no deferred maintenance.  All the weaknesses of the early 360s have been attended to.  All the expensive work has been done and is current.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

The stereo installation is reversible.  I have all the original equipment, which will go to the new owner.  I bought a second pair of door pockets for the custom door speaker installation (the speaker grills mimic the Hertz logo).  I have the original door pockets, which will go to the new owner.  Subwoofer enclosure is friction fit and easily removable for service (as pictured).

I have the original wheels and tires (which are essentially unused), which will go to the new owner.

Newlyweds crash rented Ferrari into a house

Tue, Apr 19 2016

A newly married couple had a rough wedding day when they crashed their rented Ferrari into a house in Burnley, Lancashire. Lancashire Road Police tweeted a photo on April 17 of a white Ferrari 458 Spider that crashed into a row house. The crash folded the hood nearly in half and completely destroyed the car's front fascia but no one was injured, according to the Daily Mail. The car, worth a cool 240,000 pounds, or 342,500 dollars, is owned by a rental company called Platinum Executive Travel. The son of the company's owner, Aleem Iqbal, made a statement on Twitter after the crash, assuring his tens of thousands of followers that he was not at the wheel of the mangled Ferrari when it went into the wall. "Thanks for all the kind messages," Iqbal tweeted from his personal account. "I wasn't at the wheel and nobody was injured that's the main thing, have had a lot worse in business." In a follow up tweet he stated, "At least people in Burnley will have something to talk about for a few weeks." Iqbal's statement about worse things happening in his business is true, and this is not the first of PET's pricey supercars to be destroyed. Within a five-week period in 2014, arsonists destroyed four of PET's cars worth more than 500,000 pounds or 713,000 dollars. In one attack, a Lamborghini Aventador rented for a wedding was torched outside a house in Luton. Iqbal called that attack a "vile act of jealousy" targeting the family of the newlyweds. Weeks later, two Audi R8 Spyders and a Bentley Flying Spur were firebombed at the PET offices in Yardley. The Daily Mail has contacted Platinum Executive Travel for an official statement about the Ferrari crash, but has not received a response. The driver and passenger of the wrecked Ferrari were not identified. Ferrari completes two-year restoration of fire-damaged 225E

Wed, Mar 16 2016

See this classic Ferrari? It looks pretty good, right? Well it didn't a couple of years ago, having been all but destroyed in a fire. But the Ferrari Classiche department completed a comprehensive two-year restoration process that's left it looking as good as (if not better than) new. The vehicle in question is a 1952 Ferrari 225E, one of the earliest sports cars the Prancing Horse made, just five years after its founding. It was delivered new to Count Antonio Sterzi, who campaigned it first in the Mille Miglia. The car went on to win events like the Bolzano-Mendola hillclimb and the Coppa InterEuropa at Monza, but after changing hands a couple of times, it was ravaged by a fire. View 7 Photos Several attempts were made in the decades since to bring it back to proper working condition. But it wasn't until its current Argentinian owner commissioned the factory's own restoration department to completely overhaul the burnt-out shell that it regained its luster. Over the course of two years, the Classiche studio has comprehensively reconditioned the 225E inside, out, and under the hood, sourcing original documentation from the factory archives to match the interior as close as possible to how it would have originally been outfitted, and giving it a beautiful two-tone blue and white paintjob. A FERRARI RISES FROM THE ASHES A fire-damaged 225E makes a triumphant return Maranello, 15 March 2016 – After almost two years of work, restoration of the 225E chassis no. 0178 is finally complete and the car is back in its owner's hands. The project was a huge challenge for the Ferrari Classiche department as the car, which belongs to an Argentinean collector, arrived in Maranello in a terrible state of repair, having been partly-destroyed in a fire. Racing past. The 225E left the factory in May 1952 and was first owned by Count Antonio Sterzi. It quickly made its competitive debut in none other than the Mille Miglia in the hands of that gentleman and his co-driver Nino Rovelli. In June the same year, the 225E won the Coppa della Toscana with Bruno Sterzi who also raced it to victory in the Bolzano-Mendola hillclimb and the Coppa InterEuropa at Monza for which both front and rear bumpers were removed. The car changed hands a couple of times but was then involved in a fire in which it sustained severe damage. The engine, however, was almost entirely salvageable and an attempt was made during the 1980s to restore the bodywork.

1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 is a love letter to Steve McQueen

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

There have been plenty of movie stars who've been into cars, but few genuine aficionados like Steve McQueen. The legendary King of Cool was known for driving his green Mustang and Porsche prototypes on the big screen, but in his private life, he loved his Ferrari.
There was, of course, his iconic 250 GT Lusso, but back in 1967, the actor and sometimes racer also bought a rare 275 NART Spyder. Sadly, that car was totaled a mere two days after he took possession, and there were no replacements available. So he bought this hardtop 275 GTB/4 instead.
Ferrari's Classiche department recently restored the car to pristine condition and RM Auctions sold it for over $10 million, but there's more to its story than its celebrity provenance and high hammer price. Listen to the guys who worked on it for McQueen tell the car's story in this latest video from the Aficionauto.
