1987 Ferrari 328 GTS U.S. Version Chassis No. ZFFXA20A3H0073263
Completed in July of 1987 and purchased new on Christmas Eve, 1986 to a Mr. William Wheeler of Kent, WA, this 328 GTS wears subtle Grigio Metallic over Black leather upholstery and carpeting. Grand Prix Motors of Seattle originally sold and serviced the car along with other reputable Ferrari specialists in the Northwest until the mid-2000's, when the 328 change hands and moved to The East Coast. The Ferrari, now residing in Texas, remains very original throughout and remarkably presented. Despite its age, the car's paintwork is outstanding, along with soft rubbers, clear lenses and glass. Likewise, the interior's upholstery is very clean and unsoiled - the driver's seat shows little use with no rips or cracks present in the leather or dash. A tasteful MOMO steering wheel and modern radio have been fitted. All electronics are in order, including lights, instruments, clock and cool air conditioning. Importantly, the removable targa top seals well and stows nicely behind the seats with protective sleeve. 72363 drives exceptionally well, thanks to years of maintenance and 35,000 original miles; shifting and steering are precise. A tidy undercarriage compliments the immaculate engine bay and compartments. All original books and warranty cards in factory leather sleeve accompany, along with servicing invoices sequentially back to 1988, unused spare wheel/tire and clean CARFAX history report. Ferrari 328 models are rapidly becoming quite desirable among collectors seeking a great classic driver with modern conveniences and a promising future. Ferrari California T has a turbo V8 lurking under new nose [w/video]
Tue, 04 Mar 2014The Ferrari California might technically be the Prancing Horse's entry-level model, but there is nothing basic about the latest upgrade for the California T. Showing its face to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show, it is now propelled by a 3.9-liter, turbocharged V8 with 560 horsepower and 557 pound-feet of torque, which equates to an extra 70 hp and a 49 percent increase in torque over the previous engine.
The forced induction mill is enough to accelerate it to 62 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds. Also not that many Ferrari buyers are going to care, but the switch also means a 15 percent improvement in fuel economy. Oh, and based on the video preview below, it sounds pretty good, too.
While the new engine is certainly the headline grabber, there are other upgrades as well: a top that closes in 14 seconds, new steering box, improved magnetic dampers and an upgraded traction control system. Pininfarina also reshaped the nose to make it more look like Ferraris of the 1960s. This is seems to be the best looking and performing California yet.
Ferrari 250 GT California could be your day off for $8 million
Thu, 26 Dec 2013Vintage Ferraris consistently top the list of the most expensive cars ever sold. In private treaty sales, the 250 GTO is king, but even at public auctions, it's the horses that prance the highest. After the Mercedes W196 grand prix racer that set the world record this past July at nearly $30 million, the list of eight-figure sales is populated almost entirely by Ferraris: a 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder for $27.5 million, the pair of '57 Testa Rossas that sold separately a few years ago for $17 and $13 million apiece, the 250 LM recently went for over $14 million and the 250 GT SWB California Spider that sold in 2008 for $11 million.
Now RM Auctions has another California - this time a long-wheelbase model - on consignment for its upcoming sales in Arizona, where it is expected to fetch between $7 and $9 million. The 11th of only 50 made, chassis number 1055 GT features matching numbers, in red over black with those highly-coveted covered headlamps from the factory. It was delivered new in 1958 to Texas and was owned by some prominent Ferrari collectors and historians across the United States.
It underwent a comprehensive restoration in 1994 before taking the top prize in its class at the Cavallino Classic and has made the rounds of numerous other concours. It's spent the last few years in northern Europe and is now being put up for auction. "It is so choice," as our childhood friend Ferris would say. "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up." Check it out in the gallery of achingly gorgeous photos above and the details in the auction listing below.
Ferrari pays tribute to Niki Lauda with one-off 458
Mon, 25 Nov 2013Though Niki Lauda may today be chairman of the Mercedes F1 team, anyone who's seen Rush will know that he's inexorably tied to Ferrari. And it's that bond that Ferrari has celebrated with this special-edition 458 Italia.
Commissioned by an evidently dedicated fan through Maranello's Tailor Made program, this one-off 458 features a red paintjob with white roof and gold wheels. It's a livery that apes the cars Lauda drove for the Scuderia in the mid-70s, and carries through with tricolore racing stripes over the roof and throughout the red-stitched black leather interior.
Not the most subtle treatment we've seen, but then the Italia is hardly a subtle car to begin with. Lets just hope this particular example manages to steer clear of going up in flames as have so many 458s - and one notable 312 T2. Feel free to read more in the press release below.
