I have owned and loved this 308 for almost 20 years . I named her "Starlet" because she looks perfect but if you look really close you can see she has a couple of flaws.
Exterior
- Sparkling , mostly original Ferrari red paint. Like many early Ferraris the paint shows some crazing but there is no damage and no rust.
- The tan leather seats are soft and supple. Over the years I have cleaned, treated and rubbed them with proper materials and dyes to keep them just right with a little patina. No tears in the leather.
- The carpets, headliner, door panels and dash are original and in excellent condition.
- 15 years ago I had the wheels professionally refinished and they are in excellent condition. Tires are 9/32 tread and the spare has never been on the ground.
- All gauges including the clock work as designed.
- Power windows and antenna work properly.
- All lights work to factory standards and pop up headlamps pop up!
- Original radio and speakers sound great. (Motor makes better music, especially the sound of the Weber carbs "on song!"
- Engine runs smoothly-starts right up with 2 pumps of the gas pedal.
- Gearbox shifts properly, strong synchros
- Clutch engages properly with no chatter or slip
- New Koni shocks (front) at 46,107 miles
- Major service (45 K) at 48,067 miles
- Fluids are fresh after her winter slumber
- A/C operates but is cool, not cold.
- Books, tools, tool bag, keys-they are all there.
- Original owners manual properly filled out by selling Ferrari dealer.
- Custom fitted car cover included.
Flaws:
- As I mentioned, the paint has some crazing. It has not changed in all the years I have owned the car and since it looks so beautiful I have never had the desire to change the paint that Enzo put on in 1978.
- Zipper in rear cargo area is broken.
- The outer window seals on doors are frayed but they seal fine.
The 308 is a great entry level exotic . It is very easy to work on and plenty of parts available from quality sources. The key is to find a 308 that has led a "good life". This car was sold new by a good friend, John Weinberger, who owns Continental Motors in Chicago. The ownership trail is complete and the car has had loving care from day one. All the little things-the books, the keys, the unmolested interior-even the original chalk marks on the underside of the front lid and the engine cover show evidence of ownership pride.
I am selling my Starlet to "invest" in vintage racing. I have had almost 20 years to enjoy her and I hope she goes to a good home. I have tried to describe the car to the best of my ability. It is for sale in several areas and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Contact me if you have questions or would like to inspect the car.- 319-631-3829.
The winning bidder will submit a $500 non refundable partial payment via Paypal. Payment in full by wire or certified check is due within 7 days of the close of the auction.

Ferrari family won't sell stake in company
Thu, Feb 19 2015Ferrari may be splitting off from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group and launching its IPO independently, but those stocks it's going to float are coming out of Fiat's hands. The small portion still held by the Ferrari family looks destined to stay in their control for the time being. According to the latest report from Reuters, Enzo's son Piero says he has no intention of selling any of the 10 percent interest he and his family hold in the company founded by his late father. "I have never sold and I have no intention of doing so," said Piero, as quoted in the report. Piero Ferrari is the illegitimate son of Enzo Ferrari and his mistress Lina Lardi. His half-brother Dino died in his twenties from complications associated with muscular dystrophy, and in accordance with Italian custom, Piero was only acknowledged as Enzo's heir after the death of the father in 1988. Representing the family's holdings, Piero still acts as vice-chairman of the company but devotes his day-to-day to running aerospace manufacturer Piaggio Aero. Daytona decision reversed, Level 5 Motorsports reinstated as class winners [w/video]
Mon, 27 Jan 2014After its first ever race at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, we can already tell that there should be plenty of excitement in the newly formed United SportsCar Racing series. Of the four competing classes, three of the winners came down to close last-lap performances, but perhaps none were as close - or controversial - as the GT Daytona (GTD) winner. Spoiler alert.
Midway through the infield portion of the Daytona International Speedway, the Level 5 Motorsports No. 555 Ferrari 458 Italia was trying to hold onto its first-place position over the Flying Lizard Motorsports No. 45 Audi R8. The R8 took an aggressive line trying to pass the Ferrari, and it ended up running out of track and driving off the course momentarily. International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) officials originally thought there was avoidable contact on the Ferrari's part and penalized the team accordingly, which meant Flying Lizard was the class winner. After watching the video replay, though, it was clear that there was no contact between the two cars. Officials overturned the ruling, rightfully giving the Level 5 Motorsports team the Rolex win.
A brief statement from IMSA is posted below regarding the matter, and we've also included a full video recap of the race from FOX Sports where you can see this GTD incident starting at the 2:30 mark.
Ferrari vetoes F1 engine supply cost cap
Thu, Oct 29 2015The costs associated with competing in Formula One are enormous. In addressing the problem, the FIA has proposed a number of measures aimed at reducing those expenses. But while most of the teams are apparently on board, one key player has exercised its veto to defeat the initiative. The issue came up at a recent meeting of the Formula One Strategy Group, where the participating parties discussed implementing a global cost ceiling, amending the regulations in order to drive down costs, and increasing the standardization of common parts. However one of the most concrete steps would have seen the FIA institute a maximum price which engine suppliers could charge independent teams for their power units. The issue was put to a vote, which the FIA reports passed with a "large majority." But Ferrari vetoed the measure, exercising the right accorded to it under the governing regulations – a step which the FIA will not contest. With its cost-cap measure defeated, the governing body has confirmed its intent to move ahead with proposals to bring in an outside engine supplier that will provide motivation to independent teams at a lower cost. As we recently reported, the price associated with securing power units from suppliers like Mercedes, Renault, and Ferrari, typically costs teams as much as $30 million per season – a solid two or three times what they cost in the previous V8 era. One of the leading contenders at this early stage to supply those low-cost power units is Cosworth. The British firm has long participated in the championship as an engine supplier, stepping back from the sport only recently. However other companies could enter a bid for the contract as well. A French outfit called PURE run by former BAR-Honda team principal Craig Pollock began development of an engine package back in 2011. BMW and Toyota both supplied V8 engines until a few years ago, while independent outfits like Mecachrome, Mugen, and TAG have also prepared F1 power units based on engines developed by major manufacturers. 26.10.15 FIA FORMULA 1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - COST REDUCTION The FIA has studied cost reduction measures for teams participating in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship which were not conclusive, including: - a global cost ceiling, - a reduction in costs via technical and sporting regulations, - an increased standardisation for parts.
