Ferrari names new F1 car F138

Don't call it the F150. Ferrari has officially announced it will name its newest Formula One car the F138. The machine is the 59th car Ferrari has built to compete in F1, and it's also the last of the company's F1 efforts to rely on a high-strung V8 for propulsion. F1 rules have changed for next year, forcing competitors to use smaller cylinder counts to get around the track. Ferrari has already said it will use a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 to do its dirty work. That moves brings an end to the eight-year reign the V8 enjoyed.
Ferrari isn't saying much more about the 2013 car, and the only image we have to go on at the moment is the logo you see above. Stay tuned for more information, and in the interim, be sure to check out the painfully brief press release below.

Ferrari 400 Superamerica leads $60M RM Sotheby's sale at Amelia Island [w/video]

Just last month, two of the most venerated auction houses came together under one roof. And this past weekend, the newly christened RM Sotheby's held its first event at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, selling a record $60 million worth of classic automobiles. The event's highlight was surely the gorgeous 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet pictured above. Resplendent in dark green over a red leather interior, this particular Superamerica set a record for that model when it sold for $6.38 million, with proceeds going towards a children's education charity. That price far outstrips the record $4 million that Gooding & Co. got for that sleek white Aerodinamico coupe in Scottsdale earlier this year. Among the other seven-figure items were of course some other Ferraris, including a rare '72 Daytona Spider that went for $3.3 million, along with a smattering of Jaguars, Mercedes, Alfas, Lamborghinis and Bugattis. A rare 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with a manual transmission sold for nearly triple its estimate at $682,000, and the Daytona-winning, Castrol-liveried 1988 Jaguar XJR-9 sold for over $2 million. Of course RM Sotheby's wasn't the only company holding an auction during the Florida concours. But as the event's official auction house, it brought in more than all the other participating auctioneers combined, setting a record for Amelia Island in the process. All four Ferrari hypercars hit Fiorano at once

Some supercar fanatics would give anything for a chance to drive a Ferrari, much less one of its flagship hypercars. But this one lucky devil got to drive all four of 'em. At Fiorano. Of course this isn't just any old lucky devil. He's Dario Benuzzi, who's been Ferrari's chief test driver since 1969. That means he probably knows the company's private Fiorano test track better than anyone, and he has one of the best jobs in the world. But even this had to be a treat for Benuzzi, driving the F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari back to back around the circuit. (All they need now is a 288 GTO to round out the action, like one owner did when he drove down to Italy with his best buddies in a convoy of scarlet hypercars, pictured in the gallery below.)
