Back up for sale is my extra Dodge Viper GTS.  Yes, extra.  I don't really need two.  My other one (a 96 B/W GTS) is never leaving.  Buy this one and you may find yourself saying the same thing.

Most ads for Vipers now are by dealers trying to sell you on how amazing the Viper is, it's history, and how theirs was owned by a little old lady who never drove it.  I value your time so let's skip the BS.  You're reading this ad, so I'll assume you already know what the Viper is about and that 33k miles on a 16 year old car is nothing.  Right?  If you want a pristine example or garage queen, this is not the Viper for you.  This one is a "driver".  You won't have to worry about the road wear killing the car's value.  It's seen wear, but not abuse.

Here is the short and sweet on this car:

- 32,721 miles on it.  I am the third owner and only account for about 1,000 miles of that.
- No accidents or major body work that I'm aware of.
- Idles, shifts, and drives fine.
- Good condition overall with typical wear, mostly minor nicks (see pictures).
- No burn marks on exhaust covers.
- For a driver, the dash isn't nicked up like a lot of them.
- Clean and clear title, in hand.
- New Michelin PS2 rear tires, new Powerslot front rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads. New rear Powerslot rotors come with the car (not needed yet). New K&N air filters.
- Gets attention everywhere.

And the short and not so sweet:

- Small nick on driver seat.  Already clear patched.
- Typical road rash on wheels (no/little curbing), and behind the rear tires.
- Rear hatch is de-laminated a little at the latch.  Common.
- Rear is a bit noisy compared to my other Viper.  Likely the pinion bearing.  Could fix it ($400) or replace entire unit with a better one with gears (~$1200).
- Driver side door/window seal pretty worn ($100).
- Hood to bumper gap is slightly larger on passenger side.  Common from opening/closing hood improperly.  Can be adjusted.
- Typical, very slow leak around rear main seal.  Never seen a Gen2 without it.
- Gets attention everywhere.

Other notes:

- I DO NOT WANT TO TRADE FOR YOUR HARLEY, BOAT, OR LAND.
I want money in my bank account and a clear garage space.
- I have "sold" this car over 4 times now, even collected some deposits, and here it is for sale again.  Please don't waste my time, or yours, if you are not actually able to purchase this car.  Few banks will finance a 16 year old car.
- Shop around first before discussing price.  Look up the book values.  The price is fair and pretty firm.  I may negotiate a little, but I'm not in dire need to sell this car, even with a baby on the way.
- I can send pictures directly via e-mail.  Just ask.  Can also take more pictures upon request.
- $200 from the sale of this car goes to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in your name.  Let's keep some perspective as we haggle over a Viper GTS.

Thanks for looking!

FCA's large, LX-based RWD cars will stick around until 2020

Mon, Nov 7 2016

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plans to stick with the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 until at least 2020, reports Automotive News. The information comes from two unnamed sources and was loosely confirmed by details in the automaker's new labor contract with Unifor, Canada's auto union. The plan, according to two anonymous sources, is to lightly refresh the Challenger, Charger, and 300 until the vehicles make the switch to FCA's new Giorgio platform. The refresh, as Automotive News points out, will happen in 2018. The Giorgio platform currently underpins the Alfa Romeo Giulia and is expected to find its way to two of the three large American vehicles for the 2021 model year. At that time, FCA will discontinue either the Charger or the 300, claim AN's unnamed sources. If one of the vehicles were to go, it would most likely be the 300. The 300's LX platform would be approximately 15 years old in 2020 and the vehicle doesn't draw in as many sales as the Challenger or the Charger. The Charger made the switch from the LX platform in 2010 with the current model utilizing the mildly updated LD platform, while the Challenger recently moved from the LC platform to the LA platform last year. All of those rear-wheel-drive platforms are closely related. Automotive News points out that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne stated that the new platform could be utilized across various applications in a conference call with analysts last month. The plan, according to the report, is to stretch and widen the Giorgio platform for the next-gen Challenger and Charger. The new platform is also rigid enough to allow the automaker to add a convertible to its lineup, which could lend further credence to rumors of an upcoming Barracuda. Hopefully, the move to the new Giorgio platform doesn't delay the all-wheel-drive Challenger GT AWD or the wide-body, Hellcat-powered Challenger ADR. We'll just have to wait and see. Jay Leno's Dodge Challenger raises $585k for USO in Scottsdale

Mon, Jan 19 2015

Of all the metal moved in Scottsdale, AZ, this holiday weekend, the one you see here was hardly the most expensive. But it's noteworthy for another reason: despite being a relatively humble, second-hand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, raised an impressive $565,625. That's because, first of all, it belonged to Jay Leno, and secondly because the proceeds were going to the USO. Leno donated the modern muscle car from his collection to benefit our men and women in uniform, and was on hand to present the car on stage at the Gooding & Company auction, along with USO president J.D. Crouch II and former Army chief of staff General George W. Casey, Jr. After frenzied and patriotic bidding, the gavel ultimately dropped at $360,000, accompanied by over $200,000 in additional contributions, bringing the total amount donated to the USO to over half a million. Commendable though it was, of course the Challenger didn't garner the highest bids at the auction. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider sold for $7.7 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS fetched $2.4 million. A rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupe Aerodinamico sold for over $4,070,000 – which, according to Sports Car Market, is the most ever paid at auction for a 400 Superamerica. And a 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 also sold for a record $1.98 million.
