You are looking at an extremely clean 2011 Ram 3500 crew cab, full size bed single rear wheel diesel pickup truck.  This beautiful truck went into service on April 1, 2012, and has 7,556 miles and 212 hours on it (yes, Dodge puts an hour meter on its HD trucks!)  It is under factory warranty for 3 years and 36 months from 4-1-12, and the successful bidder can also get special priced extended warranties during the first year, or through the end of this March.  It has been lightly used on weekends on a small hobby farm in Crown Point, IN, plus one round trip to Detroit and one to Minneapolis on two business trips.  It has hauled very little--about 200 miles total pulling an equipment trailer loaded with an approximately 5,500 lb. farm tractor.  It pulls effortlessly and runs very smoothly as you would expect from the top of the line heavy duty Ram model with the famous Cummins diesel engine.  Note that it was only in the back half of 2011 that the 800 lb. ft. torque heavy duty Cummins engine was available--this truck DOES have that engine, a $500 option.  Also note that recent HD diesel engines from Ford, GM, and now even Dodge I believe require Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) to meet EPA requirements.  In 2011 Cummins was able to meet requirements without DEF, which can add as much as $75 to the cost of running about 3,000 to 5,000 miles.  This truck does NOT require DEF.

This window sticker on this truck was $58,965, with a dealer cost of $53,666 before the hold back.  In addition I put about $2,500 of additional accessories consisting of extra long chrome steps, a full bed rug, and  a BackFlip solid bed cover.  The bed rug is a great product--it covers the entire bed and tailgate, including up the sides, but the tie downs are still accessible.  It is extremely durable, and was put down before ANYTHING was in the truck bed, which is still showroom new underneath.  I also put on a 4 panel BackFlip solid bed cap, which flips up in sections as shown in the pictures.  It is weather tight, and because the truck has a locking tailgate, with the cover closed the entire bed is secure, like a very large car trunk.

This truck comes with single rear wheels and a 3.42 Rear Axle Ratio.  This combination is best for fuel economy, but to get the best towing capacity the 4.10 gears with dual rear wheels is required, albeit at the expense of fuel economy.  Having said that, this truck will tow just about anything you would want to tow, but I wanted to be clear on the gearing.  With respect to mileage, it has a real time MPG screen which hits 20 to 21 mpg on the highway, but over the time I have owned it I have tracked all fuel purchased and total miles driven, and over about 7,200 miles I got an average of 15.1 mpg, but much of what I drive is local--up to the feed store, hardware store, etc.  Note I have NOT put any aftermarket exhaust, engine chip, etc. to try to enhance mileage.  This is a stock truck all the way around except the side steps and bed accessories.

The options on the truck are:  6 speed A/T ($1,100), Deep Water Blue pearl paint ($225), leather bucket seats ($500), rear video system including headphones still in the box ($1,695), 800 lb. ft. torque ($500), remote start ($185), power pedals ($150), rear backup camera ($200), on/of road tires--LT265/70R17E ($200), Navigation with CD/DVD/MP3 media center ($800), sunroof ($850), front/rear rubber floor mats--no one has EVER stepped on the carpet! ($80), snow plow prep (but never seen a plow) ($135), cold weather group ($90), and clearance lamps on the roof ($80).  I believe this truck had every option available except dual rear wheels, including satellite radio and an electric rear window above the bed.

I am putting the truck up for sale because I got a used wake board boat for the kids, and figure I could sell the truck, pay for the boat, and get another, cheaper used pickup or SUV for the farm.  Since I will still need a truck or SUV, if you are interested in this auction and have a decent 4x4 crew cab pickup (gas or diesel) or full size 4x4 SUV (prefer Suburban or Yukon XL) and want to upgrade to a Cummins diesel and are interested in trading in on this truck, I will entertain a deal with cash plus your vehicle.  To do this you MUST call to discuss what you have, and we can establish a trade value to apply against my truck, which value we must both agree to.  I don't care about age as much as condition, and would prefer less than 100,000 miles.

This truck has never been in an accident, has had its first oil change, is stored indoors, is in near showroom condition, and is available for inspection and test drives before the auction ends.  I have the title in hand, and the vehicle is located in Crown Point, IN, about 48 miles southeast of the Chicago loop.  This is a local pickup only, and payment in full will be required at delivery with a $1,000 paypal deposit required within 48 hours of auction end.  Miles may be slightly higher as I still use it on weekends.  Please call Mike at 219-765-5910 with any questions.

I forgot to mention that this is a non-smoking vehicle, drivers or passengers.  Also the step bars are the Westin brand.

Dodge Charger and Challenger go Plum Crazy for Woodward Dream Cruise

Wed, Aug 12 2015

Dodge will be rolling through a purple haze at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15 with the reintroduction of Plum Crazy to the color options on most trims of the 2016 Challenger and Charger. To premiere the latest use of the wild shade, the brand's display at the annual Detroit-area automotive event will be showing off violet versions of the 2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker and Charger R/T Scat Pack. The brash tone originally debuted in 1970, but Dodge has kept the lavender hue special in recent years by limiting the option to specific trims. It was last offered during the 2014 model year on R/T and SRT trims of the two vehicles. Practically any buyer will be able to go Plum Crazy if they want. On the Challenger, the color will be available on the SXT Plus, R/T models, Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat trims. The choices for the Charger will be similarly broad, including the SXT when ordered with 20-inch wheels, R/T versions, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. Customers desperately wanting a vehicle in the insanely violet shade will be able to place the first orders in September, and dealers will get the chance from October through the end of the year. Production of the lavender muscle cars will then commence in November. Dodge Debuts Plum Crazy Heritage Hue for 2016 Challenger and Charger at Woodward Dream Cruise, Provides Collector-demanded Production Numbers for High-impact Paint Colors New 2016 Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker and Charger R/T Scat Pack Models in Plum Crazy Will Be Shown at the Dodge Display at 13 Mile and Woodward Ave in Royal Oak, Mich.

Chrysler patents smarter minivan folding seats

Thu, 02 Jan 2014

It's frightening to think of how quickly the mice would have overtaken us if we hadn't stayed one step ahead of them with better mousetraps. We'll never have to worry about that in our relentlessly re-engineered world, though. Case in point: Chrysler has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office for an improved design of the already wondrous Stow 'n' Go seating found in the automaker's Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.
Introduced in 2005, the Stow 'n' Go was improved in 2008, and based on the drawings of this third-generation improvement, the new design appears to allow stowage of the second row of seats without having to move the front-row seats forward as much. It look like it also involves fewer operations and moving parts, with a portion of the seatback being incorporated into the flat floor when the seats are stowed, as opposed to having a completely separate cover.
It's possible that the innovation may appear on the next-generation minivans expected in 2015, but Chrysler isn't commenting on the patent.

Autoblog's guilty pleasure cars

Tue, Mar 10 2015

Guilty pleasures are part of life – don't even try to pretend like you don't have one (or two, or six). In the non-automotive space, this could come down to that secret playlist in your iPhone of songs you'll only listen to when you're alone; or think of that one TV show you really do love, but won't admit to your friends. I've got plenty, and so do you. Going back to cars, here's a particularly juicy one for me: several years ago, I had a mad crush on the very last iteration of the Cadillac DTS. Oh yes, the front-wheel-drive, Northstar V8-powered sofa-on-wheels that was the last remaining shred of the elderly-swooning days of Cadillac's past. Every time I had the chance to drive one, I was secretly giddy. Don't hate me, okay? These days, the DTS is gone, but I've still got a mess of other cars that hold a special place in my heart. And in the spirit of camaraderie, I've asked my other Autoblog editors to tell me some of their guilty pleasure cars, as well – Seyth Miersma, as you can see above, has a few choice emotions to share about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Read on to find out what cars make us secretly happy. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG This decadent convertible is the epitome of the guilty pleasure. It's big, powerful, fairly heavy and it's richly appointed inside and out. It's a chocolate eclair with the three-pointed star on the hood. Given my druthers, I'd take the SL65 AMG, which delivers 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That output is borderline absurd for this laid-back convertible. I don't care. You don't need dessert. Sometimes you just crave it. The SL line is about the feel you get on the road. The roof is open. The air, sun and engine sounds all embrace you. It's the same dynamic you could have experienced in a Mercedes a century ago, yet the SL gives you the most modern of luxuries. An Airscarf feature that warms my neck and shoulders through a vent embedded in the seat? Yes, please. Sure, it's an old-guy car. Mr. Burns and Lord Grantham are probably too young and hip for an SL65. I don't care. This is my guilty pleasure. Release the hounds. – Greg Migliore Senior Editor Ford Flex I drove my first Flex in 2009 when my mother let me borrow hers for the summer while I was away at college. The incredibly spacious interior made moving twice that summer a breeze, and the 200-mile trips up north were quite comfortable.
