1998 - Dodge Ram 3500 on 2040-cars
Phippsburg, Maine, United States

Our 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW 2WD is up for sale. We purchased this truck in July of 2014 with 42,000 miles on it from the original owner. He ordered the truck from Jim Quinlan in Clearwater, FL in 1998, had it upfitted and installed a Lance Legend 990EC camper in it. The truck has rarely ever towed anything over an 18' Sea Ray boat and has never been driven in the winter. The ONLY reason we are selling this truck is because it is too wide for what we need a truck to do. IT HAS NEVER BEEN WORKED OUT OF OR USED AS A WORK TRUCK! The camper in the truck is 100% fully loaded (gas/electric heat, a/c, new LED TV w/ digital antenna, three-way fridge, queen size bed, dinette/bed, "dry bathroom," meaning it has a separate shower stall, outdoor shower, awning (never been used) and much more. Camper hasn't been used more than a dozen times in its life). Both units are in excellent condition! The camper will be sold for 8,900obro, as comparable units will sell for over 40,000 new! The truck is equipped with a Class V Titan receiver hitch and reducer insert, Air Lift rear air springs, stainless steel brush guard with driving lights, and has a brake control box and additional hookup in the bed for a 5th wheel/camper. The tires on this truck are nearly new, as seen in the photos, and the wheel covers look great! The interior is clean and free of any stains and smells. Both us and the previous owners are non-smokers. All functions of the interior work as they should. There are no check engine lights, ABS lights or anything else to be concerned about on this truck. We fully serviced this truck less than 500 miles ago with an oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and undercarriage grease and lube. The metallic green exterior looks very well for the age of the truck, and other than a spot of clear missing on the hood (see photo, from removing pitch) it's a very nice looking rig. A light "rub" on the passenger side rear wheel well from touching one of the camper jacks is present, but will most likely polish off. From a few feet away, it's nearly unnoticeable. All exterior and interior lights work as they should, all accessories work as they should. The four driving lights on the brush guard are fused and wired on a separate switch on the dash and work as they should. Please note: The engine/transmission/powertrain in this truck has not been modified, programmed or improved in any way. This is an unmolested, completely stock Cummins truck! On 11/30, I pulled it out of storage and took much better photos of the truck so you can see just how clean it really is. The truck was washed just before it was put away over a month ago. As far as I know, the engine compartment hasn't been washed or detailed in any way. The only time this truck has seen snow is on 11/30 when I took photos and put it back in the warehouse. If you decide to purchase this vehicle, payment will need to be in the form of cash or a wire transfer. A 750 deposit via credit/debit card is required upon agreement. Payment for this vehicle must be received within seven consecutive days. If the buyer backs out of the deal OR otherwise cannot complete the purchase, THE DEPOSIT WILL BE REFUNDED LESS THE COST OF THIS AD LISTING FEE PLUS THE FEE TO LIST THIS AD AGAIN. ALL OFFERS ON THIS TRUCK WILL BE CONSIDERED AND I WILL REPLY TO ANY/ALL QUESTIONS AT MY EARLIEST CONVENIENCE. If the seller backs out or otherwise cannot complete the sale, the full deposit will be refunded. I can be reached at 207-270-8045 should you want to speak to me directly at any time from 6:30AM until 8:30PM, Eastern Standard Time. Thank you so much for checking our ad out. Please don't be afraid to make an offer on the entire package, as I can't move the camper without the truck!

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
Big rig gets blown over on Wyoming freeway, flattens police cruiser
Sun, Feb 12 2017A big rig navigating a stretch of windy Wyoming highway last week was blown over by high winds and landed on a Wyoming Highway Patrol cruiser. According to CBS News, three Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers responded to an accident along Interstate 80 near Elk Mountain on February 7. While the troopers were out of their cars assisting the crash victims, a white Volvo semi-truck lumbered up I-80 toward them. Wind gusts in that part of Wyoming were clocked in at up to 90 miles per hour on Tuesday, and one of them caught the semi as it neared the parked cruisers. Video from one of the cruiser's onboard cameras showed the big rig drift to the right as a big gust hit the trailer. Slowly, the whole rig tipped over and flattened one of the parked cruisers. The truck then slid a few feet on its side and came to a stop just aft of the cruiser. None of the troopers were injured in the incident, and two people in the truck came out of it unhurt as well. Patrol Lieutenant David Wagener told KGWN that that stretch of I-80 was closed on Tuesday to lightweight, high-profile vehicles. The truck driver was cited for the incident. High winds are no joke, and vehicles getting blown around or even clean off the road is a pretty common phenomenon. Way back in 2011, a truck got blown over in Utah. Then there was a train that got blown off a bridge in Louisiana in 2015. Chrysler recalling 2009-2010 Ram 1500, Dodge Dakota pickups over axle pinion nut
Mon, 08 Oct 2012Chrysler is issuing a recall for the 2009 and 2010 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota pickup trucks due to improper installation of the rear axle pinion nut. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 44,300 trucks are affected by the recall, and there have been 12 confirmed incidents including one crash.
The issue on both trucks is that the pinion nut is loosening on some trucks due to a lack of thread adhesive, and it is causing the rear axle to lock up resulting in loss of vehicle control. NHTSA's recall notice says that eight incidents occurred at speeds over 35 miles per hour and most also exhibited driveshaft failures as well since the loss of the pinion nut would cause the gear to separate from the driveshaft. In one complaint, the driveshaft separated from the rear axle and punctured the gas tank.
Chrysler will begin sending out recall notices to affected owners in November, but scroll down to see the official NHTSA notice.
