Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat in the works

In Autoblog's recent First Drive of the 2015 Challenger SRT with the 707-horsepower Hellcat V8 we found its engine to be as brutally powerful as the numbers would suggest, even if it wasn't the best handler. However, the muscle-car-styling just isn't right for some buyers that need four doors and proper rear seats to haul around the family. It appears that Dodge has their backs, though, because the Hellcat is very likely on its way into the Charger in the near future. Imagine the looks on your passengers' faces when you stomp down on the throttle.
According to Road and Track, when Dodge submitted the Hellcat for engine power certification to the Society of Automotive Engineers, the company included the Charger on the paperwork. That showed that the automaker wanted the engine checked out for the sedan, too. R&T reckons the 707-hp Charger would hit the road about a year from now, clearing the Challenger for a year of exclusivity with the powerplant.
When the Charger SRT Hellcat does hit the road, it may carry a very special accolade. Assuming nothing beats it in the meantime, it might be the world's highest horsepower production sedan. Think on that for a second. Even a Mercedes S65 AMG only has 621 horsepower, though a good bit more torque at 738 pound-feet to the Dodge's 650 lb-ft. Bull leads Texas police on four hour chase

A bull leading police on a chase through a Texas town may sound like something out of a country music song, but police in Arlington, Texas recently had just such a situation on their hands. According to WFAA, on the afternoon of May 9, a young bull got loose from his pen and decided to take a stroll through the streets of Arlington. "There was a cow walking down the neighborhood," said Arlington resident Jillyan Nance. "It trotted down my home and cut across our yard into the neighbor's yard." Arlington police were alerted to the escaped bull and, in a scene more Texas than Steve Earle drinking a Shiner at the Alamo, they attempted to chase it down with police cruisers. For the next four hours, police engaged the creature in a sedate, low-speed chase through Arlington, Dalworthington Gardens, and other neighboring towns. The bull, for his part, largely ignored his pursuers and the throngs of people coming out of their houses to watch the strange scene and post pictures to Facebook and Instagram. With numerous police cruisers in not-quite-hot pursuit, the bull ambled along the shady streets, stopping here and there to munch on some grass and take in the views. Eventually, a friendly local rancher showed up and lassoed the bull in Dalworthington Gardens just before 9:00 p.m. Police have not released the name of the bull's owner or any motive for its escape. Perhaps, like the unicorn that escaped into a California orchard back in February, it decided that it had had enough of working for a living and was looking for something else. Dodge Charger to slim down and run turbo four in next generation

The current Dodge Charger is getting long in the tooth. It was originally introduced in 2005 as a 2006 model. In car terms, that's an eternity, though it's been refreshed twice. Still, FCA US will keep the LX-generation car going, reportedly facelifting it one last time for 2019. After that, there are some bigger changes in store . Automotive News is reporting that the follower to the current LX Charger will lose almost 500 pounds and will once again offer a turbo four-cylinder. You might remember the front-wheel-drive four-banger Charger of the early '80s. The recharged sedan will be twin-turbo and it's going to use the 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine currently under development for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, AN says. The target weight for the future car is around 3,500 lbs, while the current car has a curb weight of nearly 4,000 lbs. Look for it to arrive in the early 2020s. The new platform will have a touch of Italian flair instead of the Daimler-Benz flavor embedded deep inside the LX cars. It will be built on an extended version of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia's "Giorgio" platform, according to AN. Dealers were already shown a styling-buck almost a year ago.
