1985 Dodge Ram 1500 With 440,727 Trans And A 9" Ford Rear End on 2040-cars
Nolensville, Tennessee, United States
1985 Dodge Ram 1500. I am the second owner of this Truck. I bought it on December 11th, 1992. It had a 360 in it. I proceeded to Strip it down to the Frame and install a 500 Horsepower 440 Chrysler Engine, a 727 Torqueflite Transmission (Out of a 1975 Imperial) with a 340 Torque Converter. I wanted a tough Rear End and 4 Wheel Disc Brakes, so I installed a 9" Ford Rear End out of a 1975 Lincoln Mark IV with Disc Brakes. It has a Willwood Brake Porportioning Valve on it. The Center Chunk is out of a 1966 Ford Galaxy with a 3.25 Ring Gear and Pinion and a Detroit Locker out of a NASCAR Late Model Stock Car running at Nashville's Fairgrounds Speedway. The Drive Shaft is a custom piece with a Chrysler Front Yoke and a Ford Rear Yoke. At 177,000 miles, the Engine broke a valve Spring and Retainer and dropped a valve into a piston destroying the engine. I had 1 more good 440 in my Garage that came out of a 1970 Chrysler 300 TNT Package. It has been completely rebuilt with all new parts. Mopar Performance Camshaft "Street Hemi Grind" 480" Lift and 280 degrees duration. A Mopar M1 Dual Plane Intake Manifold. The Carburetor is from a 1971 GTX. It has a Factory Choke in the Intake. Cloyes Tru Roller Timing Chain. Comp Cams Valve Springs, Retainers, and Pushrods. Sealed Power Pistons and Rings, Clevite 77 Engine Bearings. Mopar Performance Oil Pump. Mopar Valve Covers and Air Cleaner. Headman "Motor Home" Headers with a Dual In, Dual Out Flowmaster Muffler and Stainless Exhaust Tips. While I had the Engine Redone, I took the Transmission to Coleman Taylor in Franklin, Tn and had all new Clutches and Seals installed. Shift Kit, Improved Kick Down Lever and a Deep Transmission Pan for more Fluid. The Rear End was fine. I Reinstalled all of this at 77,074 miles. I have changed the oil (With Valvoline Racing Oil with High Zinc) at 81,050 miles and today, it has 81,966 miles on the odometer. So, the Engine and Transmission has 4,892 miles on it. The only road Trip I have made with it since the Fresh Rebuild, I drove it to Chicago about 3 years ago and it ran like a Top! Well, one thing led to another, so I had the Truck completely repainted, Installed new Carpets, Radio Speakers with Alpine , New Door Panels, Power Window Switches and Door Lock Switches. New Headliner. It has a 1989 Seat in it, a '89 Dash Face and a 140mph Custom Speedometer (Built by Corvette Clocks By Roger) I have installed an Autometer Tach and Vacuum Gauge. A Panasonic OP875 CD Player with an Auxilirary Input Jack. It has 1970 Corvette LT1 Outside Rear View Mirrors. Factory Tilt Wheel. Class III Receiver Hitch (That I got from Marvin Panch) I worked with NASCAR Winston Cup Teams from 1973 through 1993. A set of 15X8 American Racing Polished Torque Thrust Wheels with BF Goodrich P275/60R15 Tires. It has a Griffin NASCAR Style Aluminum Radiator. Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition. A Cobra 25 CB Radio mounted in the Roof with a Weatherband. It haas a Chrysler Tri Band Antenna (Made by Hy Gain). I have installed a new 1990 Grille and Taillights. It has a Rear Chrome Step Bumper and Rhino Lining in the bed. The reason I am selling my Truck is that I have had a series of Health problems in the last few years. I had Open Heart Surgery and had 5 By Passes. March 27th, I had been on Dialysis and had a Kidney Transplant. I have gone from having 15 cars and I am now down to 4. This is my last favorite Toy that I will be selling. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport that I will put up for Sale after this Truck sells and I will simply buy myself a newer Dodge Truck from the proceeds of these two Trucks. I really don't feel like tinkering with my Toys like I did when I was younger. I am 60 now and I need to get down to 3 vehicles. My wife's, my truck, and Her 1970 Challenger T/A (Which is not for Sale) but I'll show it to you when you come and pick up your Truck. I took this Truck to the Mopar Nationals in 1995 and entered it into the Bracket Race. There were 165 Vehicles in the 14 second Bracket. I made it to the Quick 16 and Broke out by 2 /100ths of a second. This Truck ran 14.30's in the Quarter mile in 95 degree Weather. It ran 8.90's in the 1/8th mile. It would run high 13's in the Quarter mile and low 8th's in the 1/8th mile in Cool Weather. I have seen it run 6,300 RPM's in High Gear. (Once) that was enough. This Truck will be sold as is, where is with no warranty whatsoever. Now, I want you to inspect this Truck to your Satisfaction and if you feel that I have not been 100% Honest with you about it, you don't have to take it. I do not have to sell it, I am just getting a little more practical at my current age and Health Status. You can contact me with any questions now or after you buy the Truck. I have owned this Truck for 22 years and can pretty much tell you anything you need to know about it. Call me at 615-948-4204 between 8am and 8pm. my name is Stan Hardcastle and I am the Events Director for the Music City Mopar Club in Nashville, Tennessee. GTC deliveries take Rauh collection up to 79 Vipers [w/video]
Mon, Jul 27 2015How many Vipers is enough? One of the ten-cylinder supercars might be too much machine for most drivers to handle, but not for Wayne and D'Ann Rauh. The Texas couple already own 77 of Dodge's flagship model. And now they've taken delivery of two more. At the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit on Friday, the Rauhs received the keys to a pair of Dodge Viper GTCs, customized through the automaker's "1 of 1" customization program. The program allows owners to spec their Viper just the way they want it, with 50 million unique combinations. For their 78th and 79th additions, the Rauhs ordered one decked out in brown with black stripes for Wayne, the other in purple with white for D'Ann, to whom the majority of the collection belongs. Of course, both come equipped with an 8.4-liter V10 driving 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The couple will add the pair to their collection in Arp, TX, a town on the outskirts of Tyler, located between Dallas and Shreveport. The Rauh's garage already includes the last of the previous-generation Vipers decked out in two-tone gold finish. eGarage profiled the couple two years ago when their collection numbered "only" 65, and we have no doubt that number will only continue to grow as long as Dodge keeps building the legendary super-snake. VLF Force 1 V10 is a rebodied Viper priced like a Lamborghini
Tue, Jan 12 2016It would appear that Henrik Fisker is done with hybrids. His latest project, called the Force 1, packs an oversized V10 engine with no electric assist in sight and all the environmental credentials of a herd of flatulent cattle. Alongside the Karma-based, Corvette-powered Destino, the Force 1 is the second product from VLF Automotive. Fisker has taken partnership in the new firm as chief designer alongside chairman Bob Lutz and CEO Gilbert Villarreal. The company isn't saying explicitly what the Force 1 is based on, but it doesn't take a CSI team to trace its roots back to the Dodge Viper. Never mind that it's being built in Auburn Hills – the same Detroit suburb where Chrysler is headquartered – or that it was jointly developed by Fisker and professional Viper racer and dealer Ben Keating. It also happens to be powered by an 8.4-liter V10, and there aren't many of those kicking around the industry. Instead of the Viper's 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, the Force 1's ten-cylinder engine is optimized to deliver 745 hp and 638 lb-ft. That, according to VLF, is enough to send the coupe rocketing to 60 in 3.0 seconds flat, covering the quarter-mile in under 11 seconds on its way to a top speed of 218 miles per hour. The power is transmitted to the Pirelli PZero rubber through a six-speed manual, but VLF says it will fit it with an automatic at the customer's request. Around that massive engine and two-seat cockpit, Fisker designed a new shape that, for better or for worse, looks way more aggressive than the Viper's. The Force 1's proportions are tellingly super-snake, but the curves are replaced by some very angry-looking angles and vents. Its head- and taillights are ultra thin, and the deep-dish, split-four-spoke wheels seem to visually split the difference between the three-spoke wheels on the original Viper and the five-spoke alloys it wears today. If you doubted the Force 1's origins before, the interior ought to give it away, with its wide tunnel and familiar surfaces. Only VLF has refinished it in leather, suede, and Alcantara, all diamond stitched with contrasting thread to help position this as a more luxurious prospect than the Dodge. It even fit between the seatbacks place for two champagne bottles that we hope nobody would consider consuming before trying to handle that much power. Of course, none of this will come cheap.
