Dodge Viper ACR reportedly green lit [w/video]

The Dodge Viper might be getting a little more venomous in the near future thanks to a return of the performance-honed ACR trim. According to an anonymous source leaking the info to Allpar, the version would go into production in July as a 2016 model year vehicle. FCA US showed a concept for a future ACR (pictured above) at the 2014 SEMA Show that sported carbon fiber parts for the front splitter and dive planes, plus a picnic-table-sized rear wing. The body also received ducts at the rear to shoot cool air to the differential. A set of 15.4-inch carbon-ceramic brake rotors also brought things to a halt in a hurry. The company promised all the aero pieces were sculpted in the wind tunnel to give the coupe even more downforce. To shed weight, engineers chucked the radio, speakers, carpet and sound deadening out of the interior, and they replaced many bits with even more carbon fiber. All of the tweaks are necessary because the ACR moniker carries serious cachet for the Viper at the track, especially at the Nurburgring. One reportedly did a 7:22 lap around the 'Ring in 2008, and another improved that further to 7:12 in 2011. Autoblog reached out to FCA US for comment about the possibility for the hotter Viper, but the company wasn't willing to comment about any possible, future projects. Related Video:

FCA adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to Uconnect

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has three showcases ready for this week's Consumer Electronics Show. The spotlight reveal is a "glimpse" of the fourth-generation Uconnect system, which now gets Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto. They lead the advances due to be rolled out this year, which include beefier internals for faster startup and processing, the next evolution of the Uconnect navigation system, capacitive touchscreens, and higher resolution screens. Going beyond the vehicle, a concept display will present solutions to help drivers achieve "Car. Life. Balance." That means, as we've heard before, a car that knows what you want before you realized you wanted it via monitoring your driving habits, communicating with other vehicles and traffic infrastructure, and prioritizing information in certain situations to keep the driver from being overwhelmed. A Waze-like community of road knowledge is also on the menu, and it allows for tagging of tag street conditions to inform other vehicles, and a follow-me mode where people can "request to follow other vehicles." How to turn a Dodge airport tug into a trail slayer

Sometimes, having a ton of fun requires takes a ton of work. Just nine days before the so-called Ultimate Adventure 2014, the folks behind 4-Wheel & Off-Road had 40 tasks to complete in order to turn the ratty truck pictured above into a machine that could excel on treacherous off-road trails while still being able to handle highway jaunts. Much of process behind the build was chronicled on the latest episode of Dirt Every Day.
The team's vehicle started life as a 1990 Dodge tug truck that spent part of its life hauling around airplanes. The builders hung on to the Cummins six-cylinder diesel, but they tossed out practically everything else for the project, with some seriously heavy-duty replacement parts for the transmission, transfer case, axles and a whole lot more. The process was certainly a ton of work, but the end result looks like a fantastic crawler.
