Super Rare and from what I've gathered less than 1000 of these were made making them much rarer than a Lil Red or Warlock. Conversely, the diesel six option cost over $1000 more than the 440 option in 1978. This one runs like a top and all fluids have been freshly serviced. It starts and runs fantastic and had no problem starting all last winter without the block heater ever being plugged in. The transmission was also serviced with a drain pan AND torque convertor drain plug installed and it had no swarf in the pan, it shifts flawlessly and crisply. The 4x4 and differentials are in excellent condition and work well. No silly noises or vibrations anywhere from the drive line. The truck drives on or off road very well, zips right on up to 60 with ease and will effortlessly cruise 70. It gets phenomenal fuel mileage.

This truck is geared 3.54 front and rear, works very well with the LoadFlite 727 and relatively high revving diesel. It could pull taller cogs or tires. It has Dana 44 up front, not sure if HD or not and a 9.25 rear with posi.

I have lots of the scarce diesel only spare parts for it and also have a very nice green dash with glove box cover to replace the original units. I thought eventually I'd score some door panels yet upon obtaining nice dash pieces, I realized they do not age with the same patina and decided I'd obtain most any color door panels and dye them all at the same time. That didn't happen but that was the plan.

I have a huge file on this truck including the original sales agreement and the factory diesel supplement. It cost $11,087 new. I have dealer repair/service orders and many parts receipts. Factory service manual and even original title.

You can get in this truck and drive it anywhere. The brake lights aren't working right at this moment and I'll update when I get them working. The windshield wipers need the bushing but the motor and switch works fine. I have a new blower switch which it needs. Some of the tires are better than others and if I were to consider taking it for a long drive, I'd bring a spare or two since it does not have a spare wheel and tire with it at all.

I dropped the tank earlier this year, cleaned it although it was spotless, replaced the sock and fuel hoses, added a Caterpillar pre-filter moisture separator and it's good to go.

It's lots of fun and plenty of die hard mopar fans have never seen or heard of one. Many got the V8 transplant as that was much easier and cheaper than a turbo upgrade back in the day.

Best would be to come take a look and drive but this rare truck would make a great bug out beater, veggie oil burner, or full restoration candidate. It's extremely rare and there is much misinformation about how they came to be. The engine is simple as an anvil, as reliable too with it's gear drive timing, has an injection pump which is a copy of the simple bosch MB unit and is the same unit put in 2.5 ton Fuso Fighters of which millions were made. Engine parts are cheap and easy for this one although it sounds and runs beautifully. I changed the oil in January, it's only done maybe 100 miles and the oil is still as clean as it came out of the cans.

I also have a new Borg Warner R2S compound twin turbo unit that could be negotiated on during the sale of this truck and it is perfectly sized for this 4 liter 6 cylinder diesel. I wish I had time to do it, throw lots of love at it, taller tires and have a bigger rare monster.

If you have questions, feel free to call 615-478-6836.

I hate to let this one go but I have way too many projects and toys while also being in the midst of relocating. Somebody into Dodge trucks needs to give this one a good home and make something fine of it.

Dodge engineers trying to shoehorn Pentastar into Dart?

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

The fact that the Dart's launch has been a pretty dismal affair isn't what we'd call secret. Judging by its mounting inventories and poor critical reception, Dodge's successor to its unloved Caliber has struggled since it hit the market. And while both of those are difficult problems to address, at least their cause is well known - the powertrain.
Even Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has acknowledged that the powertrain options in the Dart are substandard, admitting at January's Detroit Auto Show that the powertrains are "less than ideal." Leading with the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Fiat 500 Abarth left a bad taste in the mouths of consumers thanks to the laggy engine and dead throttle response (to say nothing of the manual and dual-clutch gearboxes that needed more refinement). The addition of the 184-horsepower 2.4-liter Tigershark in the Dart GT has helped matters some, but apparently Auburn Hills doesn't think it's quite enough.
If rumors are to be believed - get that salt ready - a possible solution may be in the works. A report from Allpar is claiming that Dodge is considering fitting a Pentastar V6 into the Dart's engine bay. As the Mopar-obsessed website points out, the critically acclaimed Pentastar is available in three different sizes - 3.0 liters, 3.2 liters and the original 3.6 liters. We don't get the 3.0 here in the US, but the 3.2 can be found in the new Jeep Cherokee and the 3.6 has been seemingly fitted to every model Chrysler can shoehorn it into.

Pontiac Aztek enjoys rebirth thanks to Millennials

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Apparently, Millennials – those between 18 and 34 – aren't afraid to look different on the road, and they like performance, too. A new study by Edmunds is discovering some surprising vehicle choices by this group. Among them, the long-derided Pontiac Aztek is getting a new day in the sun with 25.5 percent its buyers coming from this generation in the first half of 2015. For comparison, Millennials represent an average of 16.8 percent of used car purchases. The Aztek is slowly shaking its reputation as a styling abomination, which seems tied to its appearance on Breaking Bad. The show premiered in 2008, and the Pontiac has been on this list for four of the past five years, according to Edmunds. It even led the pack in 2010. A recent Retro Review from MotorWeek also showed that the crossover wasn't always so hated. While it's still a shock to see the Aztek on any popularity list, the awkward-looking crossover only ranks sixth among Millennials. The vehicle with the biggest portion of buyers from the generation is the Dodge Magnum with 27.6 percent. According to Edmunds, the bluntly styled wagon is especially popular in Detroit and Chicago. The Chrysler Pacifica comes in a close second at 27.3 percent. When it comes to used cars, value and utility appear to trump just about anything else for many Millennial buyers," Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo said in the report. Young buyers aren't afraid of sporty rides, either. The Subaru WRX has 26.4 percent Millennial buyers to rank third place on the list, and the Volkswagen R32 takes fifth at 25.7 percent. Just a few points lower in seventh place is the Nissan GT-R at 25.4 percent, and the final performance machine in 10th place is the Lexus IS-F with 24.7 percent. Related Video:

Chrysler patents smarter minivan folding seats

Thu, 02 Jan 2014

It's frightening to think of how quickly the mice would have overtaken us if we hadn't stayed one step ahead of them with better mousetraps. We'll never have to worry about that in our relentlessly re-engineered world, though. Case in point: Chrysler has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office for an improved design of the already wondrous Stow 'n' Go seating found in the automaker's Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.
Introduced in 2005, the Stow 'n' Go was improved in 2008, and based on the drawings of this third-generation improvement, the new design appears to allow stowage of the second row of seats without having to move the front-row seats forward as much. It look like it also involves fewer operations and moving parts, with a portion of the seatback being incorporated into the flat floor when the seats are stowed, as opposed to having a completely separate cover.
It's possible that the innovation may appear on the next-generation minivans expected in 2015, but Chrysler isn't commenting on the patent.
