1958 Dodge Power Wagon/van Pelt Open Cab Brush Truck Fire Engine on 2040-cars

Year:1958 Mileage:17727
Location:

Springfield, Illinois, United States

Springfield, Illinois, United States

1958 Dodge Power Wagon/ Van Pelt Brush Truck.  Fire body built and installed by P.E. Van Pelt Fire Engine Co. of Oakdale California in 1958.  Believed to have served Walnut Creek, California area.

This rig is in EXCELLENT condition.  It runs, drives, stops, holds water and pumps as designed.  The winch, siren and primer pump are functioning perfectly as well.  I have owned and maintained this rig since 2001 and it always has been and is truly a "Turn-Key" vehicle.

17,727 miles showing.  Believed accurate-odometer working.

High quality paint over EXCELLENT straight and rust free sheet metal.  This is not only my opinion, but the opinion of many people that have seen this rig at several shows.

Dimensions: 18' 5" long.  83" wide.  6' 10" high.  It fits under a standard 7' residential garage door.

Federal Sign and Signal model #28 siren.

Berkely "High Pressure Fog" pump mounted under rig and is PTO driven.  Pumps well and does not leak.

Functioning original 12v-120v inverter.

A partial list of what I have done for maintenance since 2001:  brake linings, hoses, wheel cylinders, rebuilt brake booster, rebuilt carburetor, points, plugs, wires, coil, etc.  Fuel tank removed and cleaned.  Water tank cleaned and coated.  Couple places in water tank repaired with epoxy and whole tank interior sealed with POR15...the tank does not leak.  Fluids have all been changed and several seals as well.

Engine operates nicely, does not smoke or use oil, and it starts easily.  It is not the original engine, but it is a 230 flathead as was original. Original engine serial number ground down and replaced with rebuilders tag.

Link to video of rig pumping: search youtube for "van pelt power wagon".

Fuel gauge does not work. It did, but I believe the cork float has disintigrated.

Currently, there is no suction intake on the rig. The plumbing exists just past the hole shown at left rear, but there is no valve or connection for hard suction. It is capped off. Fill water tank with hose to pump water.  The rest of the plumbing and valves all function well.

No major oil leaks, but there is seepage from various seals.

Vehicle located in Springfield, Illinois 62712.  Not interested in shipping.

Clear vehicle title in my name.

Cash or mutually agreeable terms.

Stellantis will give its brands 10 years to prove they deserve to live

Thu, May 13 2021

Formed by the merger of PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, Stellantis has 14 brands under its roof, a number that makes it one of the largest groups in the industry. Rumors claimed not every brand would survive, with Chrysler often earmarked to get axed, but the firm said it will give them all a chance to shine. "We're giving each (brand) a chance, giving each a time window of 10 years and giving funding for 10 years to do a core model strategy. The CEOs need to be clear in brand promise, customers, targets, and brand communications," announced Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares during the Financial Times' Future of the Car event. His comments confirm Chrysler fans and dealers don't need to worry about the future — at least not yet. And, against all odds, Lancia enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief, too. Former FCA head Sergio Marchionne warned of the brand's demise on several occasions. Alfa Romeo is safe for now, too, as is Vauxhall, which are basically just Opels sold in the United Kingdom with a different badge. The engagement made by Tavares also means Stellantis won't divest any of its brands to raise capital until at least 2031. It's now up to each executive team to make a case for the brand they run, an unusual survival-of-the-fittest strategy in an era when cutting costs is more common than spending cash. Diving into the vast Stellantis parts bin should help even the most troubled brands turn their fortunes around on a relatively tight budget. It seems likely that survive Chrysler will need to look beyond the 300 and the Pacifica/Voyager, the only models in its range, and completely reinvent its image, which is currently nebulous at best. Lancia, once the champion of luxury, performance, and innovation, faces the same challenge. It's not starting quite from scratch, it's relatively popular in its home country of Italy, but it will need to think globally and expand outside of the city car segment to survive. Dodge Grand Caravan to live in fleets through 2017

Mon, Jun 22 2015

After a hard-working career of hauling around families for decades, the Dodge Grand Caravan name was set to retire in 2016 under FCA's five-year plan for the US. The decision would have put all of the automaker's focus behind the next-generation Chrysler Town & Country, but that original strategy might have changed. Now, Dodge's minivan may have to work just a few more years before it can finally shuffle off. There are set to be 2016 and 2017 model year examples of the current Grand Caravan, according to an internal FCA production document obtained by Automotive News. This report suggests no changes in the minivan between those two years, and there's no mention of the company's intentions deeper into the future. "While we've announced the Grand Caravan will eventually be the minivan that goes away, we're not going into more detail at this time," a Dodge spokesperson said to AN. For the next Town & Country, production would start in Windsor, Ontario, in late February 2016. This document also suggests a brief run of 2016 Chrysler minivans based on the current model from August 2015 until February 2016. Automotive News speculates that the reprieve for the Grand Caravan could allow that model to focus on fleets and the Canadian market while the new Town and Country gets up and running. The latest generation T&C will reportedly debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and will possibly carry a higher price to befit a vehicle with a more modern platform and improved tech.

Dodge Challenger returns to Trans Am

Fri, 15 Aug 2014

NASCAR's Nationwide Series may have switched (in appearance anyway) to muscle cars, but American racing fans know that if they want to see real muscle cars on the street circuits, the only place to look is Trans Am. The all-American racing series is packed with Mustangs, Camaros and even Corvettes. The one thing it's been missing is the Dodge Challenger, but now SRT Motorsports has announced it's bringing its muscle car back where it belongs.
Rather than waiting until next year, the Miller Racing team is switching mid-season to the new Dodge Challenger SRT Trans Am racer you see here, just in time for this weekend's race at Mid-Ohio. And not just that - it's lined up a compelling pair of drivers to pilot it, as well.
The No. 11 car will be driven by Trans Am legend Tommy Kendall, a four-time series champion who's been off the grid since 2004. Backing him up in the No. 1 Challenger will be none other than Cameron Lawrence, the driver who has won five out of six races in the Chevy Camaro so far this season, losing out only once to American racing scion Adam Andretti.
