1953 Dodge B-4JMA-161.  RARE!! The creme-de-la-creme of 1953 Dodge Trucks with every factory option and massive style!  The Dodge COE is the undisputed king of the road with many cool factory mods such as a 12" body lift and one-piece hood that is over 20" shorter than a standard hood.  This long-wheelbase model is PERFECT for a factory-original roll-back car hauler.

For those who don't speak Dodge, the B-4 is the last year of the B series (1953).  "J" is the heaviest-duty COE rated at 2-1/2 tons.  With the optional heavy springs and frame plates, this truck is the strongest available.  "M" means COE cab with commanding view.  "A" means optional 2-Speed rear axle.  "161" is the wheelbase.  This truck has a 17,250 lb GVWR and can be driven with a regular drivers license.

- Original 265 Industrial Chrysler Flathead starts and runs.  I put in a modern remote oil filter (factory remote filter housing comes with truck).

- Deluxe 5-Window COE Cab

- 5-Speed Synchromesh Transmission

- 2-Speed Vacuum-Shift Rear Axle

- Huge Factory Power Bakes

- Heavy Duty Optional Front Axle (5000 lbs)

- Heavy-Duty Optional Springs (fronts are 2200 lbs each, rears are a conservative 7500 lbs each)

- Heavy-Duty Factory Frame Reinforcement Plates

- Fulton Aluminum Sun Shield Visor

- Current Montana Title in my name!

This amazingly rare truck is a piece of metal art.  Ready for finish body work and paint or clear-coat and keep the bare metal hot-rod look.  Truck runs and drives but needs rear brake line.  Driveshaft hand-brake works excellent.  PLEASE SEE PICTURES for condition.  This truck is 61 years old and has the scars to prove it.  There are dents and dings and even a few rust spots.  Overall the metal is very rust free with the exception of a few isolated areas (rear cab line, spot on hood, and curved lower sill).  The fenders, floors, doors, and door jambs, cab mounts, etc. everything else is very solid.  Wiring needs some updating.  Seat is not original.  Rear tires are 9.00x20 military tires with good tread.  The fronts are 9.00x20 with some age checking, but hold air fine.  It comes with some spare parts not shown like the front "DODGE" chrome, and the front marker lights (one lens missing).  Also included are the factory "Mopar" big-daddy truck mirrors.  The lower skirting is missing.  I have another truck with the skirting.  It is mostly flat metal and would be easy to fabricate.  I can provide detailed pics if you want to re-create the factory skirts.  I broke my back and can no longer get up into this truck (it is REALLY tall!), so I must pass it along to a good home.

The original 1953 brochure with all the detailed specs can be seen at: http://dodge-semis.com/Brochures/1950s/1953FGHJK/

For those interested in such things, there is some speculation that the KMA model listed in the brochure (19,000 GVWR) did not actually exist except as a fully-optioned JMA.  This is that model.  If you look at the conventional cabs, the "K" had the dual carbs and dual exhaust for an extra 15 hp.  However, the COE's use an updraft carburetor.  It is highly unlikely they produced a dual updraft COE due to space constraints.  Thus the speculation that the KMA lives only in the brochure.  If you have or know of a KMA truck in existence, please correct me.

Truck is sold as-is with no warranty.  This is a real auction and the winning bidder owns the truck.  Purchaser is responsible for shipping.  Deposit due within 48 hours, remainder due within 7 days.  No payment plans.  Truck ships from Stevensville, MT, 59870.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Marcus at 406-360-8628

Thanks for checking out this neat old truck!  See my other auction for my neighbor's 1947 Ford Factory Dump in excellent condition.

2015 Ford Mustang vs. Camaro and Challenger [w/poll]

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

The horsepower wars are tightening among the Detroit Three, as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger are getting bigger, more powerful, and yes, more fuel efficient.
That came into sharper focus this week as more information was revealed about the most insane Challenger ever - the 707-horsepower Hellcat - followed quickly by Ford's in-depth showcase of the 2015 Mustang in Dearborn.
It's shaping up to be a golden age for enthusiasts, and what's under the hood is becoming more important than ever.

Dodge recalls 121,603 examples of Dart for loss of brake assist

Fri, Dec 4 2015

Dodge will recall 121,603 worldwide examples of the 2013-2014 Dart with the 2.0- and 2.4-liter engines because of possible loss of power brake assistance. The company reports two minor injuries and seven accidents potentially related to this problem. The affected models have build dates before Jan. 24, 2014. There are 105,458 of these vehicles in the US; 11,996 in Canada; 3,705 in Mexico; and 444 outside of NAFTA. This campaign doesn't affect Darts with the 1.4-liter engine. These vehicles' brake-booster vacuum tube routing can potentially allow oil to access and eventually to degrade the brake booster diaphragm. If this happens, then the vehicles could lose braking assist. The brakes themselves would continue to work, but the driver would experience longer stopping distances. A pop or similar sound of a vacuum leak sometimes precedes the problem, according to the automaker. Dealers will inspect the components and replace the vacuum tube. If technicians find oil in the tube, they'll also swap out the vacuum pump, brake booster, and master cylinder. Affected owners will receive notice from the company within the next 60 days. Statement: Vacuum-tube Assembly December 3, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 105,458 compact sedans in the U.S. to inspect and replace vacuum-tube assemblies and certain other components, as required. Some of the affected vehicles may be subject to oil migration that could affect their brake systems' power-assist feature. Foundation brake function is unaffected. However, if this condition occurs, the driver may notice hard pedal-feel on brake application, and longer distances may be required to stop the vehicle in emergency situations. An FCA US investigation identified certain model-year 2013-14 vehicles equipped with 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter engines, may have brake-booster vacuum-tube routing that inadvertently allows oil to reach the brake booster diaphragm, if ever the vacuum-pump check valve fails. Oil may degrade the diaphragm and lead to a loss of brake-assist – a feature that helps reduce stopping distances. FCA US is aware of two minor injuries and seven accidents that are or may be related to this condition. The recall is limited to model-year 2013-14 Dodge Dart sedans produced before Jan. 24, 2014. It also affects an estimated 11,996 cars in Canada; 3,705 in Mexico and 444 outside the NAFTA region. Vehicles equipped with 1.4-liter engines are excluded.

Certain Chrysler owners eligible for buyback program

Mon, Jul 27 2015

Certain car owners whose Chrysler vehicles contain dangerous defects will soon have a way to get rid of their lemons without losing money. As part of an agreement with federal regulators, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has agreed to buy back more than 500,000 vehicles susceptible to veering out of control without warning at above market-value prices. The deal mainly covers certain models of RAM trucks, the Dodge Dakota pickup and Dodge Durango SUV. Further, owners of more than 1.5 million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokees at heightened risk for lethal fires are eligible to trade in their vehicles at above market value or, alternately, get a gift certificate if they prefer to have repairs made. Chrysler has "a heavy responsibility to make sure the products they make are safe for the traveling public," said Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "... Here, we are sending an unambiguous signal to industry that if you skirt the laws or violate the law, or don't live up to the responsibility that consumers expect, we are going to penalize you." The buy-back and trade-in options for motorists come as part of an unprecedented penalty NHTSA slapped against Chrysler for violating federal motor-vehicle safety laws. Chrysler will pay a $105 million fine, the highest ever levied by the regulatory agency. In addition to the buy-backs, Chrysler also agreed to an independent monitor for three years. Investigators had outlined problems in the company's conduct in 23 recalls that affected more than 11 million defect vehicles. As part of a consent-order agreement, Chrysler acknowledged it did not notify vehicle owners of recalls in an effective manner and did not notify NHTSA of safety problems. Though those recalls affected millions of drivers, the buy-back and trade-in options are only for a small portion of the vehicles involved. Because Chrysler struggled to fix the problem and no repair was apparent, Rosekind said the buy-backs are reserved "for customers who didn't have a remedy." Buy-backs are for trucks and SUVs affected by three recalls that occurred in 2013 (recalls 13V-038, 13V-527 and 13V-529), that addressed a rear-axle pinion nut that could come loose and cause a loss of vehicle control. Those recalls covered 579,228 vehicles, including 2009-2012 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks, 2009-2012 Dodge Dakotas, 2009 Chrysler Aspen and the 2009 Dodge Durango.
