When's the last time one of these came along?  And this one has current registration, and runs and drives!  1949 Dodge 1/2-ton Panel Truck, model B-1-B in Deluxe trim.  "Deluxe" because it has the vent windows, and passenger seat and sun visor.  Fully optioned out with rear bumper, 2-speed electric wipers, and radio.  Has after-market Arvin heater with 2-speed motor.  Nothing needed, mechanically.  Original 218 cubic inch flathead six runs great with no leaks and uses almost no oil.  3-on-the-floor transmission is quiet, though, not quick through the gears, (but then, they never were).  Steering is tight.  Brakes give reliable if vintage-style performance.  Still has 6-volt, positive-ground electrics, and everything works except the radio and the horn.  Someone was in the process of installing after-market turn signals, but from the factory it came only with the single stop/brake/license plate light.  Originally it was a dark/navy blue, but was repainted many years ago in metallic brown.  The original color can be seen in the dash and interior front doors.  Otherwise, mostly in well-worn original condition.  Floors are solid, and the only rust on this truck is that which is between the wheel wells and just behind the front doors.  Obviously, it's going to need some work on the seats; the door panel trim and armrests are missing.  The rubber around all four doors is long gone, so the truck makes a pretty good racket as it's going down the road.  The wood bed is still very good, no rotting at all.  You can still read the date stenciled in bold, green numbers on the inside (05-24-1949).  Side glass in both front doors are well-past the need for replacement.  Same goes for the tires.

I've owned this truck for nearly 25-years, and kept up with all maintenance.  At times, it's been my daily driver.  I've done king-pins and brakes.  Generator's about 8-years old.  The fuel pump was replaced last summer.  I was told the engine had been rebuilt in the early '80s, and included re-bore, turned crankshaft, new camshaft and repainted in MoPar big-block turquoise.  (It was originally aluminum-colored.)  Odometer's reading just over 26,000 miles, and I suspect it's flipped over once (but probably only once).  With new tires, and some patience and moxy, it could be driven anywhere you want to go.

Included with the purchase is the bright piece that goes above the grill, one of the "DODGE" emblems for the hoods/engine covers, and the radio block-off plate.  Nearly everything else it needs (emblems, hub caps, glass, interior trim) are available from the after-market, so this could be a relatively easy restoration.  Imagine this painted up in your choice of colors with your company logo on the sides!

The truck is located in Denver/Thornton Colorado, 80229.  Seller will need to make a deposit of $500 within 48-hours of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end.  Buyer assumes responsibility for shipping.  Of course, local pick up is no problem.

Thanks for looking, and good luck!

Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker and Mopar '14 Challenger up the retro appeal

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

The reborn Dodge Challenger might be getting a bit long in the tooth, having been on the market in its current form since 2008, but Chrysler isn't going to give up on its brutish, full-size two-door just yet. For this year's SEMA Show, the Challenger will be getting a new Mopar edition, as well as a retro-cool shaker hood on the 5.7-liter, Hemi-equipped R/T models.
As we mentioned last night, the Shaker Package will cost $2,500, but includes the Super Track Pak (new steering rack, brake linings, upgraded shocks and 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires), a $595 option on its own. The shaker hood result in a performance bump of any kind, but the blacked-out, pop-up scoop is a nifty feature that hasn't been seen on a production car since the Ford Mustang Mach 1 in the early 2000s.
The Mopar '14 Challenger (pictured right) follows the cues of previous Mopar Editions, which have included the 2010 Challenger, 2011 Charger, 2012 300 and 2013 Dart. Only 100 Mopar '14 Challengers will be produced, and they'll include the new shaker hood, Mopar's distinctive blue graphics and wheels, and whatever is pilfered from the accessory catalog.

Chrysler recalling over 200k vehicles across its brands

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

With more than 200,000 units across six separate recalls and almost all of its brands, it appears that Chrysler has officially jumped headfirst into the recall pool this month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued three official recalls for the automaker, and The Detroit News is reporting that the automaker itself has announced three more.
The biggest of the recalls applies to about 120,000 Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Chrysler 300 models for 2011 and 2012 due to faulty wiring harnesses for the seat-mounted side airbags, which could lead to these airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. A little more than 60,000 two-wheel-drive versions of the 2007-2008 Dodge Nitro and 2008 Jeep Liberty SUVs are being recalled due to a heat shield that could cause the driveshaft to break, which if that isn't bad on its own, could then hit underneath where the airbag sensor is mounted, causing the airbags to deploy. Wrapping up NHTSA's recall notices, about 20,000 Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass models for 2012 are also being recalled due to a problem with the fuel tank transfer tube that could lead to the vehicle stalling. The LX car recall campaign is going into effect this month, while the other two will start next month - all three notices are posted below.
In addition to the official NHTSA recalls, The Detroit News is also reporting that Chrysler is recalling more than 16,000 Ram trucks and a small number of Dodge Dart sedans. Around 6,500 2013 Ram 1500 trucks will be recalled due to an improper adjustment of the parking brake cable from the factory, while 7,000 Cummins-powered 2013 Ram Heavy Duty trucks are being recalled due to an engine cover that does not have as much heat resistance as it is supposed to. Finally, a total of 46 Dodge Dart sedans are being recalled due to a problem with the brake calipers and/or parking brake.

Guy trying to sell Challenger Hellcat for $89,000 because VIN ends in '666'

Mon, Jul 27 2015

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is undoubtedly one of the baddest cars on the road today. With a 707-horsepower supercharged V8 snarling under the hood, the coupe can go down the road like a bat out of hell. There's not much that could make one of these muscle machines much more menacing, but a seller on Craigslist has one bizarre solution: offering a hellacious Hellcat with a VIN marking the Dodge as the beastly 666. What's the price for such unholy identification? That's a cool $89,000 – around $30,000 more than a brand new, less sacrilegious example. The seller claims that the Challenger's blasphemous number makes the vehicle "one of a kind," which is true only to the extent that VINs ending 665 and 667 would be similarly unique. The seller also says in the Craigslist ad, "This car is sure to become a collector's item and will only increase in value." There's no question that the Hellcat is a special machine, and the models just might be worth something decades into the future. Expecting that a future owner is going to care about the VIN seems pretty optimistic, though, unless this is either the first or last example, which it's not. To the credit of this superstitious seller, the Challenger appears completely untouched with all of the warning stickers, paperwork and even the plastic still covering the seats. So, the new owner is at least getting a practically untouched example. While we applaud audacity here, a roughly $30,000 premium for an unholy VIN seems a bit... devilish.
