1946 Dodge Pick-up Truck on 2040-cars
Waubun, Minnesota, United States
1946 Dodge Pick-up Truck. It is considered a pre-war body style though. The body has some rust, but is fairly reasonable for a 68 year old truck. The fenders are solid but look like they may have had dents hammered out of them, as they have many dimples in them. The windshield is cracked, and the windshield frame is rotted pretty well, but the crank out mechanism still works. The wood in the bed is rotten. The tailgate needs to be held on with a ratchet strap, as the bed sides tend to droop outwards. The rear window is fine, and both side windows are fine and crank up and down. The door latches work well. The interior is as plain as you could imagine. It has a bench seat, with naugahyde that is torn/cracking. It has wood panels over the battery box and around the shifter, and both are rotting. I'm not sure if any of the gauges work, but about 5 years ago I charged the battery and the headlights and gauge lights worked. The engine is the stock 6 cylinder flathead. 5 years ago I had it running, and drove it down the road. The clutch didn't slip, the tranny worked in all 3 forward and 1 reverse gear. The hydraulic brakes do not work, and I had to use the parking brake to slow down. The accelerator pump in the carb was shot, so it took some feathering of the throttle to move it. I haven't attempted to revive it since that day, so the current running condition I am stating as not running. When I had it running, the generator was charging fine. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS, and it's old so expect there to be things wrong with it. This truck is also for sale locally, so this auction may be canceled at any time. No delivery of this truck is included, as the buyer is responsible for pick-up/transport. A $500 deposit will be required, and the remainder of the balance will be due before the truck leaves the premises. 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat [w/videos]
Tue, 22 Jul 2014Darrell Waltrip once said, "If the lion didn't bite the tamer every once in a while, it wouldn't be exciting." The sentiment behind that aphorism is causing my adrenal gland to wake up as Dodge and SRT drivers and engineers - somber-faced to a man - give me the track talk that will precede my driving the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT on the circuit at Portland International Raceway. PIR might not be Daytona, and the 707-horsepower Challenger Hellcat might seem tame to a legend like ol' Jaws, but there's a not-small part of me that's thinking about how hard Dodge's fire-breathing kitty might bite.
Just a few hours previous, I'd gotten behind the wheel of the Hellcat for the first time, letting its hyperbole-spitting, supercharged V8 Hemi pull me yieldingly through Portland's morning commuter traffic. Lulled into a cocky certainty by the Challenger's good manners at low speed, I drove the throttle just a hair too deep, too fast when I ran on to the highway ramp. For just an instant the rear tires were utterly drenched in torque, and the back end of the big Dodge loosened up like a drift car on a wet track. Throttle steer lives at the fleeting whim of your right foot in this car.
It was no big thing to lay off the gas and pull the Hellcat back in line as I entered the highway, but the incident did get me to thinking: What will this car do to me on a road course?
Chrysler to reveal next minivan at 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Tue, Jan 13 2015All eyes in the industry are presently fixed on this year's Detroit Auto Show, but over at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, they're already looking towards next year's show. That's when the Italian-American automaker says it'll unveil the next Chrysler minivan. The announcement, made on the FCA Corporate Twitter feed, promises that the next Pentastar minivan will debut in January 2016, which (along with the hashtag NAIAS) suggests the next-generation family hauler will debut at the Detroit show next year. Auburn Hills is expected to replace the current Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan with two all-new models: one keeping the minivan form, and the other shifting into more of a crossover. Just which nameplate gets the new form factor, and which will debut at Cobo next year, we don't know. Odds are good that it'll be the minivan not the CUV, though. Chrysler's minivan has been a winning business for the Detroit automaker, pioneering the segment, outselling the competition and marketing around the world under more brands and nameplates than just about anything else in the industry. The vehicle has been sold as the Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler Voyager, Plymouth Voyager, Lancia Voyager, Ram Cargo Van and Volkswagen Routan, to say nothing of long-wheelbase Grand versions of many of the aforementioned nameplates. Consumer Reports says these are the worst new cars of 2014
Thu, 27 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has announced its annual list of worst vehicles, a cringe-inducing contrast to its list of top vehicles. Ignominiously leading the way in 2014 is Chrysler, which has a staggering seven models listed.
Jeep nearly sweeps the small SUV segment by itself, with its Compass, Patriot and 2.4-liter version of the new Cherokee, while the only midsize sedans listed by CR were the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger. The new Dodge Dart and the Dodge Journey round out CR's condemnation of Chrysler.
Ford is taking heat as well, with the Taurus, Edge and their counterparts from Lincoln all listed as the worst vehicles in their respective segments. Toyota doesn't fare much better, with its Lexus IS, Scion iQ and tC also making the list.
