A few years ago, I wanted to buy a fun car, like an STI, or Lancer Evolution, but I just didn't want to pay $20k minimum for something decent.  That's when I looked into the SRT 4.  I found that I could get way less milage, and a way faster car, for THOUSANDS less!  I found a rich guy in Florida who purchased the car at 50k miles and had it built into the monster that it is today, then decided to get into building a new truck so he sold the SRT to me.  I bought it with 58k miles and drove it up to Virginia.  In the past three years I've put on only 13,000 miles.  The fact is, I have two kids, want a third, and I want to cash out to pay off some debt.  That's the only reason.  I will truly be sore for years about selling this car and my son will be mad at me one day when he figures out that I sold out the car that could have been his.  The car runs and drives more than great, which brings me to the description of the goods about this car.

CLEAN TITLE.  The car was professionally built and tuned to 455 Horsepower to the wheels.  This process began with all new, bullet proof internals in the head of the engine to handle the larger amount of boost from the upgraded Borg Warner S256 70mm Turbo.  Right now the 455 whp is on a conservative tune of 23 lbs. of boost on pump gas.  The car can handle that power like it's nothing because the car was built to handle 30+ lbs. of boost and has a tune option for race gas (The care has never gone there, and I have never wanted to go there...the car is scary fast as it is).

I didn't do the upgrades myself and I can't remember everything that was done.  The list below covers most of the upgrades and if you are interested in the part specifics, send me a question and I'll get in touch with the previous owner to find out for you.

Borg Warner S256 70mm Turbo
Big front mount intercooler
Diablo Sport Predator Tune (Comes with handheld computer programmer)
3" Full exhaust system and downpipe with a Magnaflow muffler out to dual 3" pipes.
AGP Wastegate
AGP fuel pressure regulator
Blow off valve that sounds amazing (Can't remember the brand)
Hard pipes to the intercooler
Solid motor mounts
HP Design 18 inch wheels
Brand new Nitto NT05 tires (Look em up, they're what you want.)
Carbon Fiber Hood and Trunk
6k HID headlights AND fog lights
Roll bars welded in
Turbo Timer
Upgraded Fuel Injectors
Short thow shifter
ACT Organic Disc clutch (Rated for over 500 hp and has a very smooth engagement.  Not harsh like a puck disc.  Nice and smooth, even for daily driving with traffic.)
WOT Box (Allows for shifting while at wide open throttle and maintaining boost - I didn't use this feature, but if you're racing and you have the balls for it, it's there)
Launch Control system (I have never launched the car)
Upgraded Engine internals including Brian Crower 18 cams
Cam gears
Eibach Lowing springs
An air fuel ratio gauge
An Aeroforce Interceptor gauge with dual display ($400) that gives you real time data on anything you want to know like horsepower output, knock retard, transmission temp., etc.
4 inch wide JMB cold air intake with a K&N filter
MSD Spark Plug Wires
Aftermarket taillights
Smaller race battery
Sale includes a straight pipe to replace exhaust with if you're going to race (I've never used it).

There's more that I'm sure I'm missing.  Overall, the car has $14,000 in part upgrades resulting in a ridiculously awesome car that will embarrass just about any car you can find on the road.
Now I want to be honest and clear about how this car has been used.  It was stock until somewhere after 50k miles when it was professionally built.  When completed, the builder took it to the drag strip to test it out.  He recorded a quarter mile time of 11.8 seconds.  He posted the video on youtube.com which you can watch at this link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aleuhPeqRTg.

Two months later, I purchased the car.  I'm almost thirty years old.  I have never ever ever been to a race track/drag strip with this car, nor have I ever gone out "racing" in it.  I have never raced from a dig (starting from being completely stopped).  Occasionally, honestly hardly ever given that I usually have kids in the car and there's always traffic, someone on the freeway wants to see what I've got so I'll pull in one gear and then let off.  I've seen the dyno screen of the power and I know the car delivers monster power up to 7400 rpms, but I've never past 6500 or so - you'll know why when you drive it.  Again, the car was built to handle this kind of power and the best part is, if you treat it nicely as I have, it's going to be an awesome reliable car.  I've had no reliablility issues with it at all.  When I was buying the car, I was worried about buying a modded car.  The builder explained to me that so much had been replaced with stronger, better parts, that I was really getting a more dependable car with a longer life than a stock one.  After three years, I can tell you, he was right.  The only thing I've had to do mechanically besides maintaing it (I do mobile 1 synthetic oil changes), was change the clutch disc.  The funny part about that, was that I changed it because I thought the clutch was slipping at the top end of first and second gear....turns out, I was just spinning my tires =0 So I didn't need the disc replaced, but replaced it is anyway.  Now I have the better NT05 tires on and wheel spin is greatly reduced.  The car is in excellent mechanical condition and I can think of nothing that needs replacing now, or even in the distant future.

Not everything about the car is show ready, here are some not so good realities about this car:
I have the car Plasti Dipped matte black which I had done by a local guy.  He didn't do a great job (there is some texture in the surface), I still like the look, but if you don't like it, you can just peel it off (google plasti dip or youtube it to learn more) and beneath it you have a the factory flame red paint job with carbon fiber hood and trunk. The trunk shows some early signs of clouding in the finish of the carbon fiber.
On the top part of the dash there is a vent that the plastic has broken out of.  It's a common problem in the SRT4, and doesn't bother me much and no one seems to notice.  You could replace the dash top for about $100 or make your own mesh vent cover or something.
The driver's side seat has some signs of wear that are VERY common in SRT4s, and mine aren't that bad.  There is one dime sized tear in the lower part of the seat, and some cracking in the upper right part of the seat.  Again, very common in all srt4 seats.
You'll notice in the vehicle history report that there was a front end incident with a parked car.  When it was down in Florida, the previous owner was leaving a parking space and thought he had enough turning radius to get by...he didn't and scuffed the bumper.  New bumper, no problems, no signs that anything happend at all.

That's all the bads.

The opportunity to own this car is too good to pass up.  If you want super car performance but don't have $75,000, this is it!  71k miles is low for SRT-4s and it's going to be a reliable, awesome car for years to come.  This one is like no other, you'll be VERY happy with it.

Continental Automotive recalls 5 million airbag control units

Thu, Feb 4 2016

Takata isn't the only supplier having airbag problems. Rival manufacturer Continental Automotive Systems announced a recall of 5 million airbag control units fitted to vehicles from Honda, Fiat Chrysler Automotive, Mercedes-Benz, and even a certain Chrysler-based Volkswagen. This sweeping recall has actually been in progress for some time, although the exact scope is only now becoming evident. In October of 2015, Mercedes-Benz recalled 2008 and 2009 model year C- and GLK-Class vehicles because their Continental-made airbag control units could corrode. Such a condition could cause the airbags to deploy without cause or warning, or in the event of a crash, not deploy at all. You can read all about it in our post from last year. Now, Continental's recall is going wide. Alongside the already recalled C and GLK, you've already heard about the 2008 and 2009 Honda Accord airbag recall, which we reported on yesterday. Now, Fiat Chrysler is announcing the recall of the 2009 Dodge Journey, as well as the 2008 and 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, and their rebadged counterpart, the Volkswagen Routan. Yes, one manufacturer is recalling another manufacturer's vehicle. The models listed above only amount to about 580,000 vehicles out of 5 million bad airbag control units. And since Continental will notify manufacturers who will then issue their own recalls, it's extremely likely that more brands and vehicles will be ensnared. Stay tuned. Say goodbye to the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200

Wed, Jan 27 2016

Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne outlined an update to the company's five-year business plan Wednesday, and among the changes, the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 sedans will soon be phased out. The company's presentation to investors states that the "market shift from cars to trucks and UVs [utility vehicles is] now seen as permanent shift in demand," and FCA wants to respond as quickly as possible. Killing the 200 and Dart will allow FCA to build more Jeep and Ram models at the Sterling Heights, MI, and Belvidere, IL, plants where the sedans were produced. We already knew FCA was planning to shift 200 and Dart production to Mexico, to free up the Sterling Heights facility for Ram 1500 production, and the Belivdere site for Jeep Cherokee output. The Cherokee will move from its current home in Toledo, OH, to allow for increased Wrangler production. It's no shock that FCA wants to shift its focus to crossovers and trucks. In December 2015, for example, combined sales of the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 were 15,310. The Jeep Cherokee, which uses the same platform as the Dart and 200, outsold both models combined, with 24,049 sales. Both the Dart and 200 had troubles from the beginning. Marchionne recently blamed designers for the 200 not receiving a Consumer Reports 'recommended' rating, and the Dart was one of the lowest-scoring cars in a CR reliability study. Woodward Dream Cruise Photo Gallery | Classics and American muscle

Sun, Aug 21 2022

The 2022 running of the Woodward Dream Cruise just went down, and we were there from morning to evening drinking in the sweet sights and pre-emissions exhaust fumes. Yes, it’s a little smelly on Woodward Ave. this time of year. Just like always, the Dream Cruise invites all comers to cruise their machines on Woodward from Ferndale, MI to Pontiac, MI. Everybody is invited, but the original intent of the Dream Cruise was to highlight classic American muscle cars. YouÂ’ll see plenty of those in our mega gallery above, but weÂ’ve sprinkled it with a bunch of other vehicle types, such as modern muscle and other intriguing American vehicles. Similar to years past, though, sometimes the classics arenÂ’t the most entertaining thing to look at on Woodward. ThatÂ’s why weÂ’ll have other mega galleries coming soon, highlighting the weird cars and (great) dogs of the Cruise, all the imports and exotics you can imagine and a special one for all the trucks of Woodward — perhaps even more so than in years past, the truck population on Dream Cruise day was quite high. Click through above to see all the classics you wouldÂ’ve seen had you been roadside on the day of the cruise. And if you missed this yearÂ’s event, make sure you check out what happens next year. You wonÂ’t be alone, as itÂ’s estimated that over 1 million people attend the Dream Cruise to either watch from the side of the road or to sit in the most glorious traffic jam in the world.
