Dodge Charger and Challenger go Plum Crazy for Woodward Dream Cruise
Wed, Aug 12 2015Dodge will be rolling through a purple haze at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15 with the reintroduction of Plum Crazy to the color options on most trims of the 2016 Challenger and Charger. To premiere the latest use of the wild shade, the brand's display at the annual Detroit-area automotive event will be showing off violet versions of the 2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker and Charger R/T Scat Pack. The brash tone originally debuted in 1970, but Dodge has kept the lavender hue special in recent years by limiting the option to specific trims. It was last offered during the 2014 model year on R/T and SRT trims of the two vehicles. Practically any buyer will be able to go Plum Crazy if they want. On the Challenger, the color will be available on the SXT Plus, R/T models, Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat trims. The choices for the Charger will be similarly broad, including the SXT when ordered with 20-inch wheels, R/T versions, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. Customers desperately wanting a vehicle in the insanely violet shade will be able to place the first orders in September, and dealers will get the chance from October through the end of the year. Production of the lavender muscle cars will then commence in November. The Dodge Demon sheds some weight in pursuit of speed

In case you need a reminder, the upcoming Demon is the more pedestrian Hellcat's stripped-down and hopped-up sibling that promises to be built for the sole purpose of traveling a quarter-mile mile quicker than any of its rivals. The weekly video rollout on www.ifyouknowyouknow.com continues with the latest sneak peak, "Reduction." While there were early rumors that the Demon may pack an all-wheel-drive system and in turn gain enough grip to rotate the Earth underneath it, Dodge and SRT look to be going down a simpler route. The press release reveals the Demon is 200 pounds lighter than the standard Hellcat. It's unclear where all that weight is coming from, but at nearly 4,500 pounds, the Challenger Hellcat could stand to go on a bit of a diet. The video hints at adjustments to the wheels, steering, suspension, and brakes, as well as some modifications to the car's interior. Don't be surprised if the Demon is a bare bones stripper model with no back seat, no A/C, and no radio. Who needs music when you have 2.4-liter supercharger and a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 making sweet love under the hood? Dodge Hellcats getting price hike
Fri, Aug 21 2015Dodge plans twice as many Hellcats on the road for the 2016 model year, they are going to be a bit more expensive when buyers sign on the dotted line. According to CarsDirect and confirmed to Autoblog by Dodge, 2016 Challenger SRT Hellcat costs $65,190, an increase of $4,200 over 2015. That figure includes $995 for destination and $1,700 for the Gas Guzzler charge. The latest Charger SRT Hellcat retails for $68,640, a $3,650 increase. Other SRT trims of the muscle cars also see a price hike. The 2016 Challenger SRT 392 is $51,190, after destination and a $1,000 guzzler charger – a $3,500 increase. The Charger SRT 392 also jumps $3,000, to $51,990. Even at 2015's prices, Dodge was having problems keeping up with demand for the Hellcat, and the higher price isn't likely to change that. And before you think the company is going plum crazy, the 2016 models of all four muscle cars come standard with Laguna leather seats and navigation. According to company spokesperson Dan Reid to Autoblog, both items had a "very high customer take rate," and the previously optional features are valued at $2,490. Dodge previously announced a discount for those who had a sold 2015 Hellcat order canceled in the switch to 2016. Those amount to $5,000 on the Challenger and $4,000 Charger, which seems like a sweet deal for those customers. Related Video:
