If I could return to the days of my youth, and purchase a new car from a dealer, and then proceed to make the modifications we did in that era, this car represents what we would have done in the early seventies.    Cragar rims, upgraded suspension, bigger rear tires with a slightly raised back end and all the engine modifications that we could afford.    For two years, I have spared no expense in creating a muscle car from that era, a rare Dodge Demon model that has people hanging out their windows to take pictures of it like it was one of my Ferrari's.       I did not expect that!    Time brings unforeseen circumstances, and my wife and I had a 'surprise' baby last year.      For the right reasons, you should consider this car and how I brought it to its current condition...perhaps it's the same way you would have done it yourself:

- Interior:   stripped down, lined with DynaMat sound-proofing, including the trunk, 100 percent new interior with reliable Auto-Meter gages and a modern air-conditioning system.  Installed front and rear seat belts.

- Suspension:   Bilstein gas shocks.     This is the best riding vintage car I have driven.

- Exhaust:  I tried two...scrapped one system for being too loud...ended up with a MagnaFlow mildy baffled system with cross-overs (eliminates back-fires).....with the DynaMat it sounds like a muscle car to pedestrians but is driveable on the inside.

- Paint, Finish:   A true $9,000 paint job by the local Ferrari-dealer authorized paint shop.    A rich red that is hard to appreciate from the photo's.   True perfection.     New bumpers, tail-lights (a 6 month wait for those!)   Fully finished trunk

- Engine:   a new MOPAR crate motor, 360 cubic inch, 400 HP, automatic with Hurst slap-stick, Holley 4BBL with a high-rise manifold, full aircraft grade fuel lines, Holley marine-grade fuel pump from a fuel-cell.    New everything (MSD Ignition, alternator, voltage regulator, fuel pump regulator, everything the best it can be.)

The total restoration cost was $38,000.00.    The reserve is substantially below this number.    The Demon production run was short and limited, objected to by the churches for having advertised the car in front of a church wedding and that created a howl amongst the conservatives!     I believe this is best Demon ever restored, at least among the best, and it is a rare car that will only increase in price.    Best of all, it's a fantastic driver!    Call my cell phone at 727-647-6499 if you want to chat about it.

Cold start comparison: 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs. 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Thu, May 7 2020

The 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a five-seat, compact luxury sport sedan packing 505 horsepower thanks to a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6. My personal 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 is ... well ... not. It's a full-sized muscle coupe whose iron-block 6.4-liter V8 makes 470 hp in the very traditional way: it's freakin' huge, like everything else about the car.  On paper, these two have nothing in common beyond the fact that they were built by the same multi-national manufacturing entity.  But if paper were the be-all and end-all of automotive rankings, everybody would buy the same car. And we don't, especially as enthusiasts. Whether it's looks or tuning or vague "intangibles" or something as simple as the way a car sounds, we often put a priority on the things that trigger our emotions rather than setting out to simply buy whatever the "best" car is at that particular moment.  So, what do these two have in common? They both sound really, really good. Like looks, sounds are subjective. While a rubric most assuredly exists in the world of marketing (attraction is as much a science as any other human response), we have no way of objectively scoring the beauty of either of these cars, and the same applies to the qualities of the sound waves being emitted through their tail pipes.  But we can measure how loud they are. In fact, there's even an app for that. Dozens, as it turns out. So, I picked one at random that recorded peak loudness levels, and set off to conduct an entirely pointless and only vaguely scientific experiment with the two cars that happened to be in my garage at the same time.  For the test, I opened up a window and cracked the garage door (so as not to inflict carbon monoxide poisoning upon myself in the name of discovery), and then placed my phone on a tripod behind the center of each car's trunk lid. I fired each one up and let the app do the rest. I then placed my GoPro on top of the trunk for each test so that I could review the video afterward for any anomalies.  I started with the Challenger. The 6.4-liter Hemi under the hood of this big coupe is essentially the same lump found under the hood of quite a few Ram pickups, and it has the accessories to prove it. Its starter is loud and distinctive. Almost as loud, it turns out, as the exhaust itself. As its loud pew-pew faded behind the V8's barking cold start, we recorded a peak of 83.7 decibels. In the app's judgment, that's roughly the equivalent of a busy street.

Federal grand jury issues subpoenas to U.S. FCA dealers

Wed, Jul 27 2016

Despite an attempt to clarify and backtrack, it seems the investigation into Fiat Chrysler Automobile's false sales reporting is picking up steam. According to Automotive News, FCA dealers and regional offices have received subpoenas ordering them to supply documents and testimony to a grand jury in Detroit. Of course, the dealers are objecting to the request. They claim the subpoenas are too broad and would require them to hand over too much personal information, like personal phone numbers of dealer employees going back years. The group wants to make it clear that FCA has clarified its sales reporting and that the issue is with the manufacturer, not dealers. The dealers say that FCA employee records and testimony should be enough. It's rumored that a dealer group is the one that sparked the investigation in the first place. FCA confirmed on July 18 that it indeed was under investigation by a number of federal agencies. Although they've clarified their position regarding sales reporting, the fraud investigation continues full steam. Related Video:

2014 Dodge Durango Ron Burgundy ads already have 2.7M views [w/videos]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

The guy who once made the Dodge Stratus a punchline of sorts is now a spokesman for the 2014 Dodge Durango, and the move appears to be paying off handsomely for Dodge. Will Ferrell, acting as 1970s-era TV news personality Ron Burgundy, has teamed up with the automaker for co-branded advertisements between the refreshed 2014 Durango and Ferrell's new movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Like Ferrell's fictional character, the ads are outrageous, flamboyant and a bit random. They're also successful: Automotive News says that more than 2.7 million people have already watched the videos since they debuted on October 5.
Those views are similar to the numbers that AN's top viral video of the year (e.g. Volkswagen's "Get Happy" Super Bowl ad) received, but there will eventually be as many as 70 videos comprising the Burgundy-Durango spots. According to the report, the videos were created primarily as a viral campaign online, although some are airing on television, too. For Dodge's part, the cost of the videos was significantly lower than a usual television campaign thanks to the fact that Ferrell wasn't paid for the spots since they were made in cooperation with promotional efforts for his new movie.
We've already posted a few of the videos in our previous post, but scroll down for several more - and head over to Adweek for a little added background on how these spots came to be.
