<p>For your consideration is a 1971 2-dr Dodge Dart V8 Swinger wearing its original blue/gold California license plates, fender tag and broadcast/build sheet.  It has approx. 93K original miles on it and I am the third owner.  The original and second owners were women who both lived in the San Francisco East Bay Area (Oakland & Concord respectively).  The car was sold/purchased at East Bay Dodge in Oakland and has remained in the SF Bay Area (East & South Bay inland areas away from the coast) it's entire life.  I have owned the Dart for almost 6 years and feel as though I have repaired/refurbished/serviced nearly every sub assembly on the car.  It is now a very reliable driver.  It is currently registered until the end of October 2014.</p>

<p>Let me run through each area on the Dart and I will describe it to the best of my ability.</p>

<p>EXTERIOR:</p>

<p>-Body/paint:  The Dart is painted in one of the unique "high impact" colors offered by Chrysler during it's 1969-1971 hey day. That color is Butterscotch (also called Bahama Yellow by the Plymouth Division) with a paint code of "EL5".  It is in fantastic condition for 43year old paint.  I would say that the Dart is wearing approx. 90% of its original paint.  The trunk lid was repainted prior to me owning it and they blended in the paint on the tops of the rear quarter and filler panel (beneath the rear window).  If I was going to keep the Dart, I was going to repaint those areas just to make it as nice as the factory paint.  Note: I am willing to pass along the contact information of the body/paint person I was originally going to use so that the new owner can deal directly with him.</p>

<p>The body is in incredible shape.  It is commented on by so many car enthusiasts (many of them Mopar people who know what and where to look for issues).  The panels are rock solid as are the pans and the frame rails.  The carpet was pulled up and the floors look like they just rolled off the assembly line with uniform body color and all factory crayon markings.</p>

<p>At one point, I did consider adding a set of high quality reproduction twin hood scoops that came with the high performance models.  With that being said,  I bought the scoops (in black gel coat), the bezels and the mounting hardware along with a mounting template.  Since the original hood is so nice, I bought a good used hood and was going to mount the scoops to it and have the entire assembly painted body color.  I no longer have the hood but do have everything else.  They can be purchased for an additional cost if desired.</p>

<p>-Vinyl top: I had a new white vinyl top installed.  The original top had been removed when I bought the Dart and the roof was extremely solid - zero issues.  I had it resealed before the new vinyl top was I stalled.  All of the vinyl roof stainless steel was polished and new mounting hardware installed.</p>

<p>-Bumpers/Mouldings/Grill: Both bumpers & all bumperperettes are very nice & straight.  They are still bright and have no crazing.  All mouldings (ie. windshield, rear window, driprail, body line, hood, wheel lip, rocker, etc.) are intact and in very good/excellent condition.  The rocker mouldings are perfect except for some of the original factory flat black paint being rubbed off by a car cover cable/lock.  The grill and headlamp bezels are some of the nicest originals I have seen on any 70-71 model.  Zero cracks or missing parts.</p>

<p>-Lights/Lenses: Both head lights (standard & high beams) and all tail lights work (as do the blinkers and emergency flashers).  All lenses (front & rear & side markers) are intact with no cracks or crazing.</p>

<p>-Glass: The Dart has all of its date coded glass.  There are no cracks or fogging.  The front windshield has its share of imperfections from 43 years of being on the road.</p>

<p>-Wheels/Tires: The steel wheels on the Dart are the original 14x4.5s.  They were originally black with full hubcap covers.  I had them media stripped, repainted to match the body color and clear-coated.  There is a nice set of stainless steel redline dog dishes on them  that I would rate  5 or so out of 10.  I have a beautiful set of stainless red lines that I would rate 8 or 9 out of 10 that can be purchased separately if so desired.  The tires are newer BF Goodrich Radial TAs (size: 205/70-14) that have approx. 2k miles on them.  As you can see, I had the black walls mounted outwards (with the raised white lettering on the inside).</p>

<p>INTERIOR:
The majority of the interior is all original and is the factory black/white combination.  This includes white soft upholstery: front & rear seats, door panels & armrests with the following items being black: carpet, dash pad, headliner, upper door frames, rear speaker package tray & seat belts.</p>

<p>Condition of Interior Parts:</p>

<p>-Seat Upholstery: overall the seat upholstery is in really good shape for being almost 43 years old.  There are two issues.  One of the seams on the driver side has unraveled but it hasn't gotten any longer in quite awhile. It is approx. 4" -5" long.  It's hard to notice unless you push on the material around it.  The second tear is behind the driver's seat. There is a 1" puncture/tear on the lower section of the seat back.  Never got around to fixing t but it really would be an easy one to repair.</p>

<p>-Door panels/armrests:  Very nice with no tears, cracking or wrinkles.</p>

<p>-Carpet:  Structurally, the carpet is really nice.  There is some fading.  I have a brand new black ACC (Auto Custom Carpet) that can be purchased separately if the new owner is interested.  The original carpet is in such nice shape, you could have it dyed if you wanted to keep,it original (it does have its original factory tag on it).</p>

<p>-Dashpad:  Another really nice piece. It has one small crack on the driver's side lower corner (closest to the door glass).  Not very noticeable at all.  There is a dash cover that goes with the Dart.</p>

<p>-Headliner: I replaced the original headliner with a new OEM (black) replacement piece.</p>

<p>-Rear Speaker Tray:  The original was cut to fit aftermarket speakers.  I cut a custom solid piece to replace it.  I was going to eventually install a reproduction tray with perforated speaker holes.</p>

<p>-Seat belts: In very nice working condition.  All latches work properly and all date coded belt tags are present and in very good condition.</p>

<p>-Instrument Cluster /Bezel: As you can see by the images, the cluster /bezel are in excellent shape.  There are no cracks and nothing has been cut or modified.  All of the gauges work except for the temperature gauge.  A couple of the instrument cluster bulbs need to be replaced.  I never got around to it.  There is an aftermarket AM/FM radio/cassette player installed but it is an oldie (as are the two 6x9 speakers under the rear speaker tray.  Again, nothing was cut to install this radio.  The original AM radio from the Dart is included if you want to have it all original.</p>

<p>-Steering Wheel:  The sport steering wheel does have a small (common) crack on the outer ring but otherwise, looks almost mint.  Supposedly, there has been a cover on it since it was first purchased.  The color and detail of the woodgrain is incredible.</p>

<p>MOTOR/TRANSMISSION:
-Motor:  The motor is the original 318 ci and has approx. 93K miles on it.  It is a solid running motor and when I purchased it had very good uniform compression (all within 6-7% of each other).  It is all original except for the following: the original 2bbl induction was replaced with a Weiand dual plane intake manifold and an Edelbrock 625 cfm carb with an electric choke.  That is topped by a Holley air cleaner assembly.  The correct throttle/kickdown linkage was installed from a 340 A-body car.  The distributor was updated with an electronic Pertronix conversion kit along with a Pertronix coil.  The motor was last tuned (incl: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.) approx. 800 miles ago.  The valve covers have also been replaced with Weiand pieces.  A new alternator and battery have also been installed.</p>

<p>-Mis. Motor Info:  All belts/hoses have been replaced.  The power steering pump was recently rebuilt and hoses replaced.  There are no detectable leaks.</p>

<p>-Transmission: The original 904 Torqueflite in the Dart runs & shifts flawlessly.  It has been serviced multiple times since I have owned it.  There are no detectable leaks.</p>

<p>EXHAUST:
The 318 maintains its original exhaust manifolds.  The original single exhaust was replaced with an aftermarket dual setup with aluminized tubing (if memory serves me correctly - 2.25") and I believe DynoMax mufflers which give it a nice healthy sound.  Chrome exhaust tips were also added and look somewhat similar to the original factory hi-po tips.</p>

<p>REAR SUSPENSION/AXLE/BRAKES:
The rear end is a 7.25" with what I believe to be 3.23 gears (non-sure grip). The leafsprings/bushings were replaced prior to me purchasing the Dart.  I replaced the shocks with new gas units.  I had the brake shoes, cylinders and hardware replaced as well.</p>

<p>FRONT SUSPENSION/BRAKES:
The front end was rebuilt prior to me purchasing the Dart.  It was evident that the control arm bushings, ball joints, etc. were newer at the time.  I replaced the shocks with new gas units.  The Dart has its original Kelsey Hayes 4-piston disc brake setup.  I had them serviced when I bought the Dart replacing pads, hardware and cylinders.</p>

<p>AIR CONDITIONING:
The Dart has all of lit original AC parts.  It does work but needs to be recharged.</p>

<p>OVERALL:
The Dart is far from perfect but it is incredibly nice for a 43 year old near survivor car.  In it's day, Darts like this were entry level cars but this one with it's high impact color, V8 option and overall excellent condition makes it even that much more special these days.  It is reliable and something you could drive around as is and have fun.</p>

<p>Besides the changes described above, this Dart is as close to original as it gets.  And as we know, they are only original once.</p>

<p>A non-refundable down payment of $500 is due (via Paypal) within 24 hours from the end of the auction.  The balance is due (via cash, money order or cashiers check) within 5 days of the end of the auction.  The vehicle will not be released until payments have cleared.  All transportation/shipping fees are the total responsibility of the high bidder/new owner.  I will be happy to assist with the loading of the vehicle and the transfer/mailing of documents. There are no implied or expressed warranties or guarantees that go along with this vehicle and is being sold as is/where is. Good luck!</p>

The Dodge Demon sheds some weight in pursuit of speed

Thu, Jan 19 2017

The Dodge Demon teaser train isn't stopping until it hits New York City. In case you need a reminder, the upcoming Demon is the more pedestrian Hellcat's stripped-down and hopped-up sibling that promises to be built for the sole purpose of traveling a quarter-mile mile quicker than any of its rivals. The weekly video rollout on www.ifyouknowyouknow.com continues with the latest sneak peak, "Reduction." While there were early rumors that the Demon may pack an all-wheel-drive system and in turn gain enough grip to rotate the Earth underneath it, Dodge and SRT look to be going down a simpler route. The press release reveals the Demon is 200 pounds lighter than the standard Hellcat. It's unclear where all that weight is coming from, but at nearly 4,500 pounds, the Challenger Hellcat could stand to go on a bit of a diet. The video hints at adjustments to the wheels, steering, suspension, and brakes, as well as some modifications to the car's interior. Don't be surprised if the Demon is a bare bones stripper model with no back seat, no A/C, and no radio. Who needs music when you have 2.4-liter supercharger and a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 making sweet love under the hood? FCA issuing software update for 1.4M vehicles to prevent hacking

Fri, Jul 24 2015

In the wake of a Jeep Cherokee being hacked remotely while on the road through its Uconnect infotainment system, FCA US is now issuing a software update for 1.4 million vehicles in the United States. Affected customers will receive a USB stick in the mail with the improved version; owners can check this website to see if their cars are affected. A large variety of models with FCA's 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system are affected. They include the 2015 Chrysler 200, 2015 Chrysler 300, 2015 Dodge Charger, and 2015 Dodge Challenger; 2013-2015 Dodge Viper; 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500; 2013-2015 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cab; 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee; and 2014-2015 Dodge Durango. According to FCA in its announcement, the new software "insulates connected vehicles from remote manipulation." As of July 23, the company also "fully tested and implemented within the cellular network" additional security to prevent access to many of a vehicle's systems. FCA US says that it's conducting this campaign out of an abundance of caution and disputes the notion that there's a defect with these vehicles. Beyond the demonstration of the hack in the Cherokee, the automaker says that it's unaware of any other reports of these attacks actually happening. Related Video: Statement: Software Update July 24, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to update software in approximately 1,400,000 U.S. vehicles equipped with certain radios. The recall aligns with an ongoing software distribution that insulates connected vehicles from remote manipulation, which, if unauthorized, constitutes criminal action. Further, FCA US has applied network-level security measures to prevent the type of remote manipulation demonstrated in a recent media report. These measures – which required no customer or dealer actions – block remote access to certain vehicle systems and were fully tested and implemented within the cellular network on July 23, 2015. The Company is unaware of any injuries related to software exploitation, nor is it aware of any related complaints, warranty claims or accidents – independent of the media demonstration.

Dodge recalls 2011-2016 Charger to give owners wheel chocks

Wed, Feb 3 2016

A bizarre new recall gives wheel chocks to Dodge Charger owners so that people remain safe while changing the sedan's wheels. The campaign covers 441,578 examples of the 2011-2016 Charger in the US; plus 19,229 in Canada; 4,969 in Mexico, and 38,947 outside the NAFTA region. According to Dodge's announcement, owners should use the chocks to stabilize the Charger when using a jack to change the wheels, like in the case of a flat tire. Without them it's possible for the sedan to fall off the jack. The company is aware of three minor hand injuries from this problem. Dodge will notify owners by mail when they can pick up the free wheel chocks. FCA US spokesperson Eric Mayne offered Autoblog a more detailed explanation about this recall. "The body structure of this vehicle is unique. If owner's manual instructions are not followed, slippage may occur. Chocks are being provided to help ensure the instructions are followed," he said. "We are continually analyzing warranty data to identify ways to improve the ownership experience. When tire-jack data was reviewed, we identified a need to further assist our customers." Statement: Wheel Chocks February 3, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to supply wheel chocks for an estimated 441,578 full-size sedans in the U.S. The chocks are for use, as instructed in the vehicle's owner's manual, when employing a tire jack to change wheels. When positioned diagonally opposite to the wheel being changed, the chocks will help stabilize the vehicle. Failure to follow the manual's instructions with an affected vehicle may cause the vehicle to come off the tire jack. FCA US is aware of three related injuries – all minor. The recall is limited to 2011-2016 Dodge Chargers. Also affected by the campaign are an estimated 19,229 cars in Canada; 4,969 in Mexico and 38,947 outside the NAFTA region. Recall notices will advise affected customers when they may obtain their wheel chocks, which will be supplied free of charge. Customers with questions or concerns may call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.
