For sale is a very rare 1965 Dodge Dart GT Convertible.  This car is one of 855 produced in 1965.  It is a life long California car with its original black and yellow plates.  Ir is a dry virtually rust free car.  The original 273 motor was removed and a 360 motor was put in its place before I found the car.  The car has some pretty rare options as well to include four piston disc bakes, power steering, power top, tinted glass, and bumper guards.  Recent work includes a complete rebuild of the 904 transmission with a shift kit (see invoice), powder coated rally wheels and BFG raised white letter tires (an allignment was also recently completed).  The car will need a complete restoration but is a terrific start.  It runs and drives but the prior owner put an incorrect brake power booster on so that needs to be changed.  The motor needs motor mounts as the prior owner removed them to clear the power brake booster he installed (not a rocket scientist).  The power steering needs hoses installed.  I would suggest finding another solid lifter 273 motor but that would be up to the new owner.  I did see a few pits that would indicate rust in the very bottom of the passenger side rear quarter and at the very bottom of the trunk lid below the key but the rest of this car is as dry as an old bone.  The car comes with a new high quality convertible top that is in the box (see picture).  This is an extremely rare car as it is a true GT V 8 convertible.  It is also the best looking (1965) of the run of these cars from 1963 through 1966.  You are very welcome to come and inspect the car at any time and take it for a test drive.  I would really like this to go to a true Mopar lover (like me).  Please call with any questions you may have.  Thanks for looking.  530-723-2145.

What's the deal with Chrysler demanding colleges crush their Vipers? [w/video]

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Students and teachers at a Washington community college are up in arms following an order from Chrysler that it must destroy the pre-production Dodge Viper that was donated to the school's automotive technology program ten years ago.
The Viper in question is said to be the fourth off the production line, based on its VIN, and has had its emissions controls disabled, allowing its ten-cylinder engine to produce 600 horsepower, according to a report from Yahoo! Autos. As one of the first Vipers ever produced, the school's AT instructors claim it could be worth $250,000 in a museum, while a local news report purports that Jay Leno once tried to purchase the car, but the sale was prevented by Chrysler.
As pointed out by our friends at Autobytel, though, there are a lot of things in this story that don't quite add up. Immediately noticeable from the news report embedded below - which shows the car at South Puget Sound Community College - is that the car in question is not a 1992 model. When the Viper went on sale in 1992, it was only available as an RT/10 with a (flimsy) soft top, like the red car shown above. But the car featured in the report from KING5 News (inset image) is clearly a hardtop Viper GTS, which didn't enter production until 1996. And even if, as reported by a local newspaper, the hardtop featured is a prototype, it doesn't explain the lack of another iconic feature of the first Vipers - their distinctive side pipes. This kind of pokes holes in the school's argument that this is the fourth Viper to ever roll down the line. At best, this appears to be a pre-production Viper GTS.

Weekly Recap: Ferrari plans to gradually increase production by 2019

Sat, Oct 17 2015

Ferrari has long been known for the exclusivity of its performance machines. It's on a different level than Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes. But as it transitions to a new era of independence from Fiat Chrysler, Ferrari is going to get a little less exclusive. It's by design, and it means a subtle, slow ramp-up of production – a move Ferrari believes will ensure its future by meeting growing demand in new markets. The strategy was detailed in SEC documents filed this month as part of the company's pending stock offering. The files reveal Ferrari will gradually increase shipments to about 9,000 units per year by 2019. This is a reversal of Ferrari's 2013 plans to cap production at 7,000 cars annually, which it hit on the nose that year. Ferrari shipments inched up to 7,255 in 2014, though that's down from 2012's record tally of 7,405. Ferrari is a vastly different operation than it was in 2013. Longtime chairman Luca di Montezemolo stepped down last fall, and FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne has been overseeing the company since then. Its IPO has attracted high levels of attention from enthusiasts and investors. As expected, demand has reportedly outstripped the availability of the stock, which has an estimated offering price of $48 to $52 a share. Speaking of more Ferraris, the company revealed a limited-edition model this week called the F12tdf (shown above). Based on the F12 Berlinetta, the car is a salute to the Tour de France endurance auto race that Ferrari dominated in the 1950s and '60s. The V12 engine's output increases to 769 horsepower, while weight is cut by 243 pounds – allowing for a sprint to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Dramatic carbon-fiber elements and a radical redesign of the body panels give the F12 a more dramatic look. It will be limited to 799 units over the life of the car. If this is how Ferrari is increasing production, we're more than okay with the company's new strategy. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Tesla software unlocks Autopilot features Tesla released the latest version of its software for the Model S this week, which allows the all-electric sedan to drive in a semi-autonomous state called Autopilot. Tesla Version 7.0 enables the Model S to maintain lane position, change lanes by touching the turn signal, and manage the car's speed using an advanced, traffic-sensing cruise control. It also has a parallel parking feature, which searches for open spots and then parks your Tesla.
