1960 Dodge Pioneer

Offered for sale is this extremely rare 1960 Dodge Pioneer 2 door post.  This was the very first year for the Dodge Dart and the uni-body construction.  This beautiful example from the Chrysler Design Team of yesteryears, although pretty much the last year for the big fins from Mr. Exner's vision.  This stunning automobile shows only 44,069 low miles on the odometer (unknown for sure if the mileage is original, but the condition of the car certainly does support the low mileage, as does the statement from the previous owner).

This very nice and rare Mopar did receive a very substantial cosmetic restoration a few years ago by the previous owner who had purchased the car in the early 70's.  The car was repainted it's original color, a spruce green metallic with a white top.  Most of the chrome was re-plated and the stainless steel trim work was polished.  The interior was completely re-done as well, in a light jade green that very nicely compliments the attractive two-tone paint scheme.  After enjoying the car for awhile, the owner put it in storage for a few years.  The exterior paint still looks amazing, but there are a couple of very minor blemishes, scratches and imperfections that are normally seen on older restored drivers.  The bumpers, sill plates and other components were re-chromed again last year and are absolutely gorgeous.  All the stainless steel and aluminum trim is in excellent shape.  Some of the pot metal has very minor pitting which is normal and to be expected on any older car.

The 318 V8 engine fires right up and purrs like a kitten.  The push button Power Flite automatic transmission shifts very smoothly.  The car runs and drives really, really nicely and is an absolute pleasure to drive.  All the brakes were rebuilt by the previous owner  a couple of years ago (new wheel cylinders, shoes, rebuilt mast cylinders, etc.).  The glass is in great condition and most of the weather strip seals and rubber were replaced.  All the electrical components work, except the radio.  Even the foot pedal operating the windshield wipers works!

The aftermarket "mag" wheels and near new steel belted Kelly Charger P225 70 R 15 tires are a nice cosmetic and utilitarian addition to this very sharp looking car.  I don't have the original wheels, but I have the original tires (Remington Cushion-Aire Poly 4ply Polyester Tubeless 478)! and they have very good tread still, but are quite a bit older and probably should only be used for display or collecting purposes.  I also have a set of four original14" hubcaps, which the previous owner had left in the trunk. I think the car would look even better and more original with the hubcaps and while walled tires.  A set of 14" steel wheels should not be too hard to find.

This very nice and attractive classic car does not need much, if anything at all and is ready to go as a great and enjoyable driver.  You are welcome to come and inspect the car for yourself and appreciate it.  A copy of the older - but original -  build sheet found in the car will also be included!  This gorgeous automobile is attractively and reasonably priced and has an easily attainable and equally reasonable reserve as well.

This older restored Mopar - First year of the Dodge Dart - is well worth the investment and will be a very nice and smart addition to any car collection. You would be hard pressed to find AND restore a car at this price level and enjoy if immediately as a really cool driver that you can take to cruises, car shows, etc.

A $520 non-refundable deposit is due immediately upon the end of the auction payable via PayPal, with the remaining balance due within 48 hours via Bank Wire.  Car is sold as-is, sale is final with no return or refund.  Buyer is responsible for all transportation and pick-up arrangements and associated costs to their location.  Vehicle must be picked up within seven to ten days after the end of the auction.  Extra time may be made available if necessary depending on the buyer's needs such as exporting.

Thank you for looking and happy bidding!

Help find Kenny Wayne Shepherd's stolen 1972 Dodge Charger

Mon, 11 Nov 2013

Judging by his collection of cars, blues musician Kenny Wayne Shepherd (shown above, at left, with fellow musician George Thorogood) is an enthusiast of classic Dodge muscle cars, so it's no surprise that he is an active member of Mopar-related online communities. When his 1972 Dodge Charger turned up missing from an LA-area warehouse last Wednesday, Shepherd took to the forums of Moparts.org in an attempt to get the word out in hopes of recovering his custom classic.
The Charger was stolen along with four other vehicles, and Hot Rod reports that two women have been taken into custody since - but still no word on the car. With its blacked-out appearance (including custom Foose wheels), this car is definitely hard to miss, but Shepherd also said that the car might be even more distinguishable now due to some body damage that may have occurred as it was being driven from the warehouse lot. Shepherd's website has a full gallery of images for this '72 Charger, which also has a modern 392-cubic-inch V8 under the hood and a six-speed gearbox pulled from a Viper.
If you're in the LA area and happen to see this car, Shepherd asks that you call the LAPD West Valley Division at 818-374-7611. Here's to hoping this one-of-a-kind Charger turns up unscathed.

FCA goes all-in on Jeep and Ram brands on cheap gas bet

Wed, Jan 27 2016

It's no surprise that as SUV and truck sales remain strong in the wake of unusually cheap gas, Jeep and Ram sales are taking off. What is a surprise is that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne thinks that cheap gas will be a "permanent condition," and feels strongly enough about it to change up North American manufacturing plans. Jeep appears to be the biggest beneficiary of the product realignment. In addition to increasing the sales estimates for the brand worldwide upwards to 2 million units a year by 2018, the brand will get a flood of investment for new product and powertrains. Consider the Wrangler Pickup to be part of the salvo, as well as the Grand Wagoneer three-row announced in 2014 as part of the original five-year plan. The Wrangler four-door will get at least two new powertrains, a diesel and mild hybrid version, in its next generation. That mild hybrid powertrain may utilize a 48-volt electrical system like the one that's being developed by Delphi and Bosch – which the suppliers think will be worth a 10 to 15 percent fuel economy gain at a minimum. Down the road, in the 2020s, the Wrangler could adopt a full hybrid system. The diesel powertrain is planned for 2019 or 2020. The Ram 1500 is also pegged to receive a mild hybrid system, again potentially based on 48-volt architecture, sometime after 2020. Lastly, Jeep and Ram will take over some of the production capacity of existing plants. The Sterling Heights, MI, plant that builds the Chrysler 200 will now build the Ram 1500; the Belvidere, IL, facility that produces the Dodge Dart will take over Cherokee output; the big Jeep facility in Toledo, OH, will be used for increased Wrangler demand. In 2015, according to FCA's numbers, car and van demand went down by 10 percent, but SUV demand went up 8 percent and truck demand 2 percent. Considering that these are high-margin vehicles, FCA can't ignore the math. FCA also won't build any new factories to supplement production to meet demand, but instead are reshuffling production priorities. Think of it this way: FCA is gambling on cheap gas being a permanent part of our lives, at least into the 2020s. By doubling down on SUVs and trucks, the company stands to win big, unless a spike in gas prices changes the landscape. FCA isn't talking about a Plan B, so they're all in. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

2015 Ford Mustang vs. Camaro and Challenger [w/poll]

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

The horsepower wars are tightening among the Detroit Three, as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger are getting bigger, more powerful, and yes, more fuel efficient.
That came into sharper focus this week as more information was revealed about the most insane Challenger ever - the 707-horsepower Hellcat - followed quickly by Ford's in-depth showcase of the 2015 Mustang in Dearborn.
It's shaping up to be a golden age for enthusiasts, and what's under the hood is becoming more important than ever.
