I am selling my 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport convertible. As you probably know, they only produced about 3,700 of them in 3 years of production. It has 51,000 miles on it. Very strong and smooth 3.9L V-6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. It has near perfect Centerline wheels with white letter tires with about half tread. The body is in good condition. No rust whatsoever. The red paint shines very well. The frame does not even have any surface rust. Still has the original black paint on it. Early in its life, it was involved in a fender-bender and was repaired. Appears to have received a new fender, hood, and bumper. It was done well, but I want to be very honest about its condition. The paint has minor scrapes on it. It is not perfect, but it is very nice. In fact, it received a trophy at a large Mopar car show last weekend. Everyone was very impressed with the great condition of the truck. The interior is also in good condition. Not perfect, but nice. One small defect in the dash. A couple of cigarette burns on the bench seat. No rips, tears, or major defects. Radio works just fine. The truck runs very well. The clutch and transmission works very well. It truly drives like a low mileage truck should. It has a bed liner. The top is in good condition. Goes up and down with no problems. The air pump for the emissions system has frozen up and has no belt on it. Does not affect the operation of the truck and is very common to this era of Dodges. It has had a new muffler installed recently. New rear shocks. I am going to sell this for a reasonable cost. It is not a zillion dollar vehicle, rather it is a very nice cruiser that is a great bang for the buck and has low miles to boot. A very rare truck that most people have never heard of. Putting gas in always results in questions from people wanting to know if I had it converted at some specialty shop. I am sure that I am forgetting something, so let me know if you have any questions. I will also pick you up at the local airport so you can drive home with the top down and the radio up. I would not be afraid to drive this truck anywhere. Gets 20 miles to the gallon also. EDIT: EBAY has determined that due to the fender-bender on 6-30-1992 that it has a rebuilt title. IT IS NOT A SALVAGE OR REBUILT TITLE. CLEAN AND CLEAR TITLE IS IN MY HAND.

Ron Burgundy calls Durango a 'terrible car,' yet his ads help sales climb by 59% [w/videos]

Fri, 22 Nov 2013

Ron Burgundy was put on this planet to do one thing: to read the news. If that ever falls through, though, the womanizing, scotch-drinking anchorman could have a great career just as a Dodge salesman. Bloomberg points out that sales of the 2014 Dodge Durango have rocketed up 59 percent in the first month of Chrysler's funny new ad campaign (which began in early October). But then again, the entire year has been strong for the big SUV, with year-over-year sales increases in the double and even triple digit percentages - including an increase of 117 percent in August.
Of course, the Durango has also received a wealth of new content and a freshened look for 2014 in addition to the Burgundy campaign, and that has to be helping close sales, too. Whether or not the spots themselves are leading to more sales may be a moot point, since they are definitely getting plenty of attention. Almost two months into the marketing tie-up between Dodge and the movie Anchorman 2, Dodge's YouTube videos have received well over seven million views. More than just YouTube shorts and television commercials, the Durango has even received late-night attention, including when Will Ferrell showed up in character as Ron Burgundy on Conan earlier this week.
In the interview, he calls the Durango a "terrible car" that "cracked in half," a joke that probably had Dodge ad execs squirming uncomfortably in their Barcaloungers. Scroll down to watch the Conan interview as well as some of our favorite Burgundy-pitched Durango ads. And there's still plenty of time to "touch" Ron to win a new Durango.

Certain Chrysler owners eligible for buyback program

Mon, Jul 27 2015

Certain car owners whose Chrysler vehicles contain dangerous defects will soon have a way to get rid of their lemons without losing money. As part of an agreement with federal regulators, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has agreed to buy back more than 500,000 vehicles susceptible to veering out of control without warning at above market-value prices. The deal mainly covers certain models of RAM trucks, the Dodge Dakota pickup and Dodge Durango SUV. Further, owners of more than 1.5 million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokees at heightened risk for lethal fires are eligible to trade in their vehicles at above market value or, alternately, get a gift certificate if they prefer to have repairs made. Chrysler has "a heavy responsibility to make sure the products they make are safe for the traveling public," said Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "... Here, we are sending an unambiguous signal to industry that if you skirt the laws or violate the law, or don't live up to the responsibility that consumers expect, we are going to penalize you." The buy-back and trade-in options for motorists come as part of an unprecedented penalty NHTSA slapped against Chrysler for violating federal motor-vehicle safety laws. Chrysler will pay a $105 million fine, the highest ever levied by the regulatory agency. In addition to the buy-backs, Chrysler also agreed to an independent monitor for three years. Investigators had outlined problems in the company's conduct in 23 recalls that affected more than 11 million defect vehicles. As part of a consent-order agreement, Chrysler acknowledged it did not notify vehicle owners of recalls in an effective manner and did not notify NHTSA of safety problems. Though those recalls affected millions of drivers, the buy-back and trade-in options are only for a small portion of the vehicles involved. Because Chrysler struggled to fix the problem and no repair was apparent, Rosekind said the buy-backs are reserved "for customers who didn't have a remedy." Buy-backs are for trucks and SUVs affected by three recalls that occurred in 2013 (recalls 13V-038, 13V-527 and 13V-529), that addressed a rear-axle pinion nut that could come loose and cause a loss of vehicle control. Those recalls covered 579,228 vehicles, including 2009-2012 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks, 2009-2012 Dodge Dakotas, 2009 Chrysler Aspen and the 2009 Dodge Durango.
