2014 Dodge Durango bows with eight-speed auto, updated looks [w/video]

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

Dodge has significantly updated its full-size Durango for the 2014 model year, giving the seven-passenger hauler a fresh look and a well-rounded boost of competitive features as it enters its fourth year in the showroom.
Cosmetically, it is hard to miss the revised front end with projector-beam headlamps and LED daytime running lamps, "floating" crosshair grille, a taller front bumper and a new lower fascia. The rear end of the facelifted Durango has been redesigned with the automaker's now-signature LED "racetrack" taillamps and resculpted rear fascia. All of the wheels are new too, with 18- and 20-inch options for each trim level with a variety of factory finishes.
Inside the cabin, buyers can select the automaker's latest Uconnect infotainment system with a full suite of infotainment features and connectivity accessed through an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Other optional goodies include a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seating and a Blu-Ray player capable of running unique programs on the twin individual rear monitors.

Detroit's new fleet of donated police cars have safety issues [w/video]

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

In a show of generosity in mid-August, Detroit's business leaders donated $8 million to the Police Department and Fire Department in order to buy 100 new police vehicles and 23 EMS ambulances. But now officers have discovered - and complained - that the police vehicles have glaring safety issues, Deadline Detroit reports. It is not made clear what models of the fleet vehicles - which include police versions of the Ford Taurus, the Chevrolet Caprice and the Dodge Charger - are affected by the safety issues.
Officers reportedly have complained that the Plexiglass partition separating front-seat officers and back-seat prisoners is easily breached, and that the front passenger seat is installed too close to the dashboard. Prisoners who manage to writhe out of their handcuffs can bend the Plexiglass and reach into the cockpit, and sitting too close to the dashboard can render airbags more dangerous and make officers more vulnerable to injury in a crash.
Mark Diaz, president of the Detroit Police Officers Association, received the complaints and reportedly said the vehicles would get safety updates addressing the issues. But Deadline Detroit reports that it checked some of the offending police cars and, as of the last few days, they hadn't been updated.

Dodge Journey gets more SUV-like look with new Crossroad model

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

Looking to play up its aging three-row crossover, Dodge will introduce a new model for its Journey franchise at next week's Chicago Auto Show. The 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad will be a new trim level positioned between the SXT and Limited, and it will be distinguished from other Journey models thanks to a handful of styling add-ons.
Plucking a page right out of the appearance playbook of the Ford Explorer Sport, the Journey Crossroad gets a meaner, more SUV-like demeanor. The Journey has often straddled the line between tall wagon and crossover, but this new trim goes a long way toward skewing its visuals toward the utility vehicle end of the spectrum. That's thanks largely to the Platinum chrome exterior trim on its roof rails and side sills, unique fascias, smoked headlights and taillights and, of course, those black 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Journey Crossroad will get a similar treatment, with darker, Liquid Graphite accents throughout the cabin, and the model will also come standard with leather seats (which Dodge says are a new design), and Chrysler's giant 8.4-inch Uconnect screen.
The 2014 Journey Crossroad goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $24,995 (*not including $995 for destination) for the four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive model, but Dodge says that the model will also be offered with more power and capability from the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and all-wheel-drive. Scroll down for the full press release, and check back next week for our live coverage from Chicago.

DESCRIPTION
We are excited to offer this fifth generation Dodge Coronet Hardtop finished in factory correct Black exterior (BB1) with Black Premium Bucket Seat interior (P4X). Featuring top-of-the-line trim level optioned called the Coronet 500, this example packs the rare, High Performance 426ci Street Wedge V8-4bbl offering drivers an incredibly stout 365 horsepower and 470 lb. ft. of torque! Options include 4-speed manual transmission, bucket seats with chrome console fitted with optional tachometer (currently in-operable) & locking storage compartment, rare electronic hide-away headlamps, power brakes, heater/defrost, padded dash, All Transistor AM/FM radio, front & rear speakers with Reverberator, back-up lights, Day/Night rear view mirror, front & rear seatbelts, remote driver outside mirror, under hood chrome air cleaner and valve covers, 14” steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps, staggered tires measuring 235/60R14 up front & 245/60R14 at the rear, locking glove box, and more!

Our example spent the better part of its life in sunny California. Registration records indicate the car made its way to the second Pennsylvania owner in approximately 1999. As an avid MOPAR collector, it was later traded for a Charger in 2003 to the third and former owner. It remains largely original showing just 79,039 miles on the odometer and survives with an all original drivetrain (engine code A426) and factory issued interior! It has definitely been repainted sometime in the distant past remaining very presentable today. All of the original Chrysler tinted window glass remains, as well as all the exterior trim and chrome appointments, chassis undercoating, and more! More recently, the gas tank was replaced for a new correctly stamped original, all new true dual exhaust fitted with Cherry Bomb Vortex mufflers, rear air shocks, complete carburetor rebuild, fresh tune up & fluids. He remains a splendid street performer with a perfect exhaust note, and sinister overall appearance! With a three owner history, unaltered drivetrain, and loaded with desirable features, we do not expect this Coronet 500 to last very long! It represents one of only 729 produced equipped with a Street Wedge & 4-speed combination! Hard to ever know how many survived, let alone like this one! Please feel free to call with additional questions or to schedule a chance to review it in person! Thanks for looking!
