Up for grabs is this investment grade Mopar. They don't come too much more iconic than this numbers matching 1970 R/T Charger. Only about 9,000 of these were made and this one has a sequence number that makes it among the very first ones built in August of 1969 for the 1970 model year. This Charger has paperwork from Galen Govier.

This car runs and drives, it needs little fixes of which, most are cosmetic. The car was restored about 4 years ago with paint and body work as well as a full engine rebuild with a mildly degrees cam installed for a nice slight lope. The body and trunk are solid and good, the car appears to be mostly original if not all original body panels, trims and parts. The Charger wears 14" Mopar Magnums which are possibly it's original rims.

The engine bay is absolutely bone stock, beautifully restored and cleaned and looks showroom fresh. One of the best things about this Charger is how exact the engine, components, wiring etc all are. People restoring Chargers have taken and used reference photos of this Charger's engine bay to understand how to restore their cars to exact original factory builds.

The car is a power steering, power brake and A/C car! The A/C components are all there, every part. The system simply needs to be charged and the heater box has a loose flap or valve which needs looked at in order to be fully functional, but the heat works very well. The A/C controls were taken out to be restored, but as I am having to sell this car, they never got sent out so they are included and can just be reinstalled or sent to be restored. Same with the radio, which also appears to be the original AM radio. It was not installed back in the dash correctly which I discovered while removing it to be restored, and again it comes with the car to be restored or replaced as the new owner chooses.

The body, mechanics and electrical were original or restored original parts of this car and whoever did that work was meticulous, the interior and exterior trim and cosmetics appears to have been done by someone who was less so. The outside mirrors chrome is pitted and the console plates are also unrestored. The carpet, headliner and seats are all perfect. The door panels and rear panels are serviceable. The speedo cable was replaced but still didn't operate well so that gauge will need to be serviced or replaced. The other gauges appear to read correctly. The bumpers need re-chromed as they are in original condition, they look ok, but not show quality. The car was a vinyl roof car originally and that was removed in favor of a painted roof.

The paint presents very well and was done with skill. No unpainted door jambs or engine bay here. The issues are a tiny tiny bubble here and there and slight paint issue over the old vinyl roof trim holes and various road nicks after the few years it's been driven. The paint is a vivid custom green and is like a slightly more punchy version of Sassy Green. No orange peel or bad clear coating. You'd have to be close to notice the flaws.

The car handled a 1200 mile trip with ease and experienced no issues. Even with a good running car like this I chose to do a few things to correct some of the issues I noticed.

The exhaust tips were changed out with oem correct tips.

Windows tinted.

A headlight motor was installed so the headlight doors opened as they should. They don't close and checking through the electrical system, this is likely due to the relay contacts being dirty but I haven't gotten under the dash to check the relay. A common problem with Chargers.

The interior door panels are the originals and even have the very hard to find Charger script emblem but are in a tattered state. New repro panels come with the car.

The steering wheel is not correct and someone epoxied on an A-body wheel. I bought a rare and very expensive original wood grain R/T wheel for this car and that also comes with the car. The piece alone is over $500!

The 4-barrel Carter carb was completely rebuilt and tuned, auto choke valve seem to stick a little but warms up quickly enough to run fine. Still runs off its points distributor and hasn't been converted to MSD or have a fuel pump installed.

The gas tank leaked from the filler tube, a correct gasket was fitted so no more leak.

Trunk seal was not installed properly, new trunk seal comes with the car.

Tail stripe was added.

Left rear marker housing was incorrect, new oem one included.

Driver's window regulator missing the rail at the bottom of the window so it doesn't roll up and down. I tracked down that piece after quite awhile, it's included with the car.

Rear window trim has two lower right corners, so you'll need just a single left angle piece. Clever how people hide little mistakes.

Also car comes with 4 new oem chrome armrest bases.

Car also comes with very bright LED headlights which were $70 a piece x 4

Car comes with a full Digi-Tails LED taillight kit which I never got to install. This converts the old tail lights with brighter, safer lights. Pretty easy kit to install and involves no cutting or modifying of the car itself.

Comes with new console light lenses and the wiring harnesses for those lights as I ordered those as they aren't in the car. Dome light comes on with the door being opened and even the 'key in ignition' buzzer sounds. That buzzer almost never works!

This Charger also had electronic dumps installed when I bought it. I have to say this about that......Wow is a real 440 one of the loudest motors you'll ever hear! Nothing says Mopar like this beast roaring into a car show with those dumps open!

This car, even with a stock 727 can really lay rubber in a 180 with only moderately evil driving.

I do have a 5-speed Tremec I had intended to swap in that can go with the Charger if the buyer is interested in saving the original matching Trans from too much weekend abuse. The Tremec comes with literally everything you need to drop it in to a B-body 1970 Mopar as that is where I pulled it from. Cross member, drive shaft and even a long floor pistol grip shifter etc, all that can go with this car for an extra $3000 which is itself a great deal considering what just the transmission sells for alone without all the other parts you need like the balanced driveshaft.

Overall this car is only a couple of minor steps away from a complete show car example of a 1970 R/T Charger. Everything here is stock 1970 and with a couple of weekends attending to cosmetics, this car would be a perfect Mopar Nationals stock car.

My intention was to make this the last car I ever needed to buy and I seriously don't want to part with it. It's medical bills that are making me choose between my car and my home. So I'm not desperate, the car isn't junk or a project car at all and I know what it's worth. She's worth what I paid for her and with the improvements I've done and all the parts to make her really perfect going with her I can't take less. The Buy-it-Now price is pretty much what these sell for. Not a cheap bargain price like a clone but also at the current value of a real R/T so it's reasonable.

No doubt when the market for these rebounds someone can make a pretty good chunk of change here. NADA lists these at around $80k, so she's a worthwhile investment and one of the most iconic cars of any era.

Car is available now for the buyer's shipping company. As always with older cars there is no warranty or guarantee after 44 years.

buy at pays a $1,000 deposit at the end of the auction with the balance due in 7 days of auctions end.

Small 3-row crossover SUVs specifications compared on paper

Thu, May 10 2018

There's no shortage of three-row vehicles on the market for carrying seven or more people and their stuff wherever they all need to go. Just about every car company has at least one large crossover or traditional SUV with three rows of seats, and there are still plenty of minivans to pick from. But most of these vehicles are large, pricey, and frequently thirsty. Fortunately, there are still a handful of smaller crossovers that deliver 7-passenger capability in a smaller, cheaper package. We've gathered four of the small three-row set here to compare them based on space, power, fuel economy, pricing, and more. They include the very old Dodge Journey, the slightly less old Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento, and the relatively new Volkswagen Tiguan. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by a more detailed breakdown and some notes on how we like each of these vehicles. For in-depth opinions on the vehicles, be sure to check out our full reviews, and if you want to compare these with other vehicles, try out our comparison tools. Engines, transmissions and performance Interestingly, three of the four crossovers here utilize similar engines for their four-cylinder offerings. The Dodge, Kia and Mitsubishi all feature naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Only the Volkswagen Tiguan chooses turbocharging and a smaller 2.0-liter displacement. But because of its turbocharger, the Tiguan's four-cylinder is easily the most potent, making a healthy 221 pound-feet of torque, which is more than 40 more than the Sorento, the crossover with the next most torque. The VW is also second-most powerful, just one horse behind the Sorento. The Outlander is the least powerful in the four-cylinder class. The Journey is only barely better, but it will probably feel as slow or worse thanks to its ancient 4-speed automatic. The four-cylinder Sorento and Outlander each have 6-speed automatic transmissions, and the VW has an 8-speed. The Sorento with a V6 has an 8-speed, too. View 17 Photos Moving up to the V6 class, the Outlander is once again at the bottom. It actually makes less torque than the turbo VW Tiguan. The Journey and Sorento are almost perfectly matched. The Journey makes a bit more torque; the Sorento makes a bit more power. The Journey also gets upgraded to a 6-speed automatic. Another powertrain consideration to bare in mind is whether all-wheel-drive is necessary.

Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.

Houston road rage incident devolves into all-out brawl

Tue, May 17 2016

The video is no longer available. It appears the associated account has been terminated. Chaos erupted on a Houston freeway last weekend when an altercation spiraled out of control and ended up in a battle-royale style brawl in the middle of traffic. According to KTRK, David Dao and his daughter were traveling along FM 1960 on the morning of May 14 when they came upon a white Honda and a blue Ram truck parked in the right lane. The drivers and passengers of the vehicles were engaged in a spirited argument about something that had happened moments before Dao pulled up. Dao parked in his lane to block traffic in an attempt at making sure other drivers didn't hit the people fighting in the right lane, and instructed his daughter to start filming the incident in case they were needed as witnesses. As Dao's daughter filmed, the incident quickly escalated–harsh words were exchanged, a drink was thrown in a woman's face, and then the driver of the Ram kicked in the Honda's grille. "I couldn't believe it. As soon as he kicked the grille, I was like, 'This is going down now," said Dao. "I was thinking this is going to be bad. At that time, I knew because there was physical damage." As soon as the Ram driver kicked the Honda the entire situation went sideways and devolved into a huge brawl, with the people from both vehicles throwing wild punches and grappling with one another. A woman who was a passenger in the Ram attempted to break up the scrum but took a haymaker in the face for her troubles. Eventually, the fight broke up and the people returned to their vehicles which Dao assumed meant that the altercation was over. Apparently though, the Ram driver felt he hadn't made his point, and he reversed at high speed into the Honda, smashing the fascia and buckling the hood. The Ram then sped off westbound on U.S. 290 with the Honda on its tail. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the incident was not reported and there is no word what happened to the brawlers after they left the scene.
