I have decided to list ONE TIME on ebay my REAL RED 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. This car was sold brand new in 1969 after the Talladega 500 race. It was truly one of those "Race on Sunday, buy on Monday" type cars. When the original owner walked into the dealership that Monday in Birmingham AL, they had 2 Daytonas on their floor. A blue one and a red one. The red with black wing was chosen(I have pictures of the blue Daytona from this dealership as well!) The original owner was an airline pilot, and kept a meticulous log(as most pilots do) of every SINGLE thing he did to the car since 1969, including receipts for oil changes, spark plug wires, you name it. This car was a daily driver and was USED as such. It towed boats, drove all over the country, and even went back to the Talladega 500 in 1970 and he watched the race sitting on the wing with his feet propped up on the back window!!! See the pic below! By 1979 the car was still going strong at 99000 miles, and the transmission was changed at this time. By 1986 the car was being used a little  more sparingly, and had 126,800 miles when the engine was changed for a new 440. In 1998 the car had a whopping 142000 miles(a lot for a daytona anyway!) and he decided to have the car redone. This took 3 years and well over $22000 dollars on the refresh. At that time a date code correct 1969 440 and matching transmission were taken from a 1969 Charger R/T and completely rebuilt(i have pictures of the donor car and engine). The car was driven less than 2000 miles since it's restoration in 2000 mainly to shows, the Talladega reunions, etc. I personally remember the car at a few shows across the southeast around 2005-2007. In Feb. 2013 the original owner passed away at the age of 80, and I acquired the car from the family this past June. It had 144,102 miles on it at that time. Since June I  have only put 63 miles on the Daytona. To be quite honest, I am a bit scared to drive a car like this, as they are so rare and OEM parts are nonexistant should something happen to it. I did cruise the car and get it up to 70 mph when driving. It was awesome!

This Daytona will be the crown jewel of someone's collection. I have enjoyed owning it, but feel much more comfortable driving my less valuable Daytona clone around, and figured it was time to give it a new loving home. The car as stated runs and drives great, the gauges work, the console lights work, even the small key light works. The car sounds all stock and fires up quickly and effortlessly. The only thing i noticed did not work on the couple drives I took was the tachometer. I would consider this automotive piece of history a strong daily driver. While not a survivor, or a 100 point show car, it is a VERY nice car and has been a southern car all it's life. There is no carfax report on the car(HA!), but i can tell you it is now a 2 owner car, and has 1 accident. This happened in 1970 when the car was 8 months old. It was hit in the passenger door. It was repaired decently in 1970 and stayed that way until 1998 when it was restored. At that time it was fixed correctly, and you cannot tell now if i didn't have the pictures to prove it. Like I said, I am only listing this car ONCE, I was VERY fortunate to be able to buy this car, and am not against keeping it forever. If you have kept up with the market on Superbirds and Daytonas, you already know about what a car like this is worth. My reserve is priced VERY low for a car of this caliber. In fact I would venture to say I have not seen a real Daytona in this shape sell for less than my reserve in probably 15 years. I've watched some project cars sell for less than this car will go for. So yes it is priced to sell. If you're in the market for a real Daytona in a beautiful color combo, this is your one chance. I am really not interested in trades. The lucky new owner will get all paperwork and photo albums I have of the car, as well as it's original Alabama historic antique plate. The car has the fender tag, but the family could not locate the build sheet from the car. This is a very serious auction, please bid only if you have the funds available to purchase this car. I reserve the right to end this auction early at any time for any reason. I will assist in the transaction whether you're 20 miles away or anywhere in the world. It seems that most of the nicer cars I have sold over the years have gone to many many other countries, including Germany, Sweden, UK, Australia, and Italy.  Thanks for looking and good luck!

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango to lose color options temporarily

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

In the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango? Well, if you fancy a more expressive color for your new SUV, you'd better get your order in, or plan on waiting until well into 2015.
The SUVs will be limited to just four monochromatic shades - black, white, silver and gray - until at least February, thanks to an upgrade to the paint shop at the two vehicles' Jefferson North factory. For the Grand Cherokee, that means it's losing more than half its color palette while the Durango is dropping two-thirds of its color catalog.
The loss of colors is inconvenient, but the upgrade will have a slightly bigger effect on the overall supply of SUVs, as Chrysler will need to end its relentless build pace at the factory for a three-week shutdown starting on December 22. The good news for fans of the SUVs is that once the work is completed, we should see a gradual expansion of the color palettes for both the Durango and Grand Cherokee, beyond even what's offered now.
