1968 Charger R/T, 426 Hemi - This is a very rare car, possibly one-of-a-kind.  I purchased this car in early 1997 with 27,000 miles on the odometer - the odometer now reads just a little over 41,000.  Car was built September 6, 1967, in Hamtramck, MI.  Since VIN numbers were not stamped on blocks prior to '68, there is no VIN number on this block - it is, however, date code correct and all paperwork indicates it is the original block (see picture).  Color is burgandy metallic (RR1) with a black interior - one of 211 Hemi 4 speeds.

Car was restored in 1990 by Chuck Pierce Restorations in New Hampshire, who also owned the car at one time.  I purchased the car from a private owner in Minnesota.  This car is rare because it was a complete option delete order other than shoulder harnesses - stripe delete, radio delete, no console, no power brakes, steering or windows, no vinyl top, etc.  The shoulder harnesses indicate the car was probably originally purchased to run on the track.  The fender tag was decoded by Galien Govier several years ago, which verified the originality of the car.

Although a 1990 restoration, the body and paint are in excellent condition - all sheet metal is original with no patches.  Since this is a street driven car, not a trailer queen, it had a few, very small paint chips that I have recently had professionally repaired - receipts available.  I also replaced the carpet several years ago & it is still in excellent condition.

In Dec. 08, I had the engine rebuilt by Best Machines, Farmington Hills, MI, using only the highest quality parts and at a cost of over $11,000. All new internal parts including:  Eagle 4.15" Stroker crank and H-beam rods; Mopar 4.290" bore pistons giving it a final displacement of 479 cubic inches; new, custom ground Competition Cams, camshaft with hydraulic lifters; new Ferrea valves and bronze guides also installed with hardened valve seats to run on regular, unleaded gas; new Competition cams double valve springs with Moly retainers and 10 degree locks; Rollmaster billet timing gear and roller chain; original dual point distributor rebuilt and recurved for mechanical advance only; original intake and dual 625 cfm Carter AFB carbs rebuilt and Dyno-jetted; Flow cooler high volume water pump; Melling high volume oil pump; Mopar Performance windage tray and original 6 qt. oil pan; original rocker arms refaced, Magnafluxed and shafts polished; new reproduction ignition parts include spark plug wires (correct date code), coil, distributor cap, wire separators, voltage regulator, starter relay, ignition switch, alternator and hi-torque starter; new, after market 850 CCA battery will start this car no matter how cold or hot; and finally, factory exhaust manifolds with new 2 1/2" X-pipe exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and factory tips.  Flywheel face correctly center ground on face; Centerforce dual friction clutch, pressure plate, roller pilot bearing and throw out bearing - this clutch has a light pedal pressure while retaining the ability to hold an extreme amount of torque.  Reconditioned, original Hurst shifter.  Fresh lube in the A-833 18 spline 4 speed transmission and Dana 60 rear (unsure of gear ratio; original ratio was 3.54:1).

This engine retains a completely stock and factory appearance externally, but is actually a 479 c.i., 505 hp, 536 ft. lb. torque giant.  Car is completely streetable and has less than a thousand miles on it since total rebuild.

Wheels are 15x7 Magnum 500's; tires are Goodyear Aquatread:  rear P225 70 x 15; front P215 70 x 15.

Heavy duty 11" drum brakes all around with all new hardware including shoes and wheel cylinders.

All receipts and documentation from the engine rebuild are available, as well as dyno test records - please disregard 2006 date on engine pictures; I failed to change the date on the camera - rebuild began in '08 & was completed in '09. Also have original build sheet, reproduction window sticker, sales brochure, fender tag information from Galien Govier, a few 1990 restoration pictures, original factory keys and other miscellaneous receipts/documents.

Inspection by appointment is welcomed.  Please ask any questions you may have prior to bidding.  In fairness to all bidders, I will not disclose my reserve, so please don't ask.  Buyer is responsible for all costs related to pick up and/or shipping/delivery of vehicle.  $1,000 non-refundable deposit required upon completion of auction.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat gets 22 mpg

Thu, 18 Sep 2014

With its crazy 707 horsepower on tap and roughly $60,000 starting price, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been one of the most talked about cars of the summer, maybe even the year. However, there's always been one lingering question about the behemoth that Dodge has waited to answer until now - its fuel economy. The EPA ratings for the muscle car are finally out, and the numbers are actually pretty impressive for a vehicle with this much power.
A 2015 Challenger Hellcat with the eight-speed automatic is rated at 22 miles per gallon highway, 13 mpg city and 16 mpg combined. Opting for the six-speed manual drops those figures to 21 mpg highway, 13 mpg city and 16 mpg combined.
"As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs [elapsed times] at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there's nothing else that even comes close," said Dodge and SRT President Tim Kuniskis in the company's release.

Is America's last cheap minivan worth it?

Wed, Dec 16 2015

Take a good look at this beauty. Because once she's gone there may be no turning back. The minivan market has been completely decimated over the past fifteen years. I could list all the former brands (dead and alive) that once formed the lynchpin of parenthood for this inherently conservative market. But that would involve at least fourteen commas, three sets of parentheses, and possibly even one 2000s-style recount. Back then, middle-class America loved these people-movers and even the well-to-do were glad to load them up with unique luxuries such as power sliding doors, captain's chairs, integrated child seats, and DVD players that entombed cacophonous kids into a temporary silence. Back in the '90s, the minivan market regularly realized well over a million sold units a year. In 2000, minivans finally hit their familial peak of 1.4 million vehicles in a year with the help of two top-20 bestsellers: the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. Today the minivan just isn't popular. This year it'll likely represent only a half-million in annual sales, with not a single minivan hitting America's top 30 in overall volume. But as I always tell folks, "If you want a deal, you have to hit 'em where they ain't." So you want a cheap and affordable minivan for cash money that isn't a 15-year-old Plymouth in purple? Does it have to be new? Really? Well, if you're married to that type of person, this Grand Caravan with the American Value Package is the cheapest thing going. Deals can also be had on the mini-minivan Mazda5, but since it's been discontinued due to low demand, let's focus on the still-popular Chrysler minivan. The cost for this 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan according to TrueCar is right around $19,500 depending on where you live in the USA. But let's take a look at the 2015 models instead since they tend to have even stronger discounts during the wintertime thanks to manufacturers and dealers who are busy shoveling out all this older inventory. If you opt for a 2015 model instead, you're looking at a market price right around $17,800 and luckily these minivans are still sitting in multitude. Wanna click those rebate and incentive buttons? If you currently lease or finance a FIAT or Chrysler product, have AAA coverage, and finance the car with FCA, you can make off like the proverbial bandit for a price of only $15,229 before the dealer inflicts their bogus fee money dance.
