1972 Dodge Polara Custom 4-door hardtop

360 V8, automatic transmission, 46,375 original miles

No Reserve

Up for bid is an all original 1972 Dodge Polara Custom 4-door pillarless hardtop, with a 360 V8 and automatic transmission.  She runs and drives really well, and gets plenty of attention.

I acquired the car from the grandson of the original owner.  I think it would be difficult to find another 42 year old car that is this original.  She has the original paint, vinyl top, interior, engine, and only has 46,375 original miles.  The 360 runs quite well, although she smokes a bit on start up but that clears up soon.  All mechanicals are in good order, the only thing non-working is the air conditioning.  She has been in Macon, Georgia most of her life; the paperwork shows some mechanical work done on her in Atlanta in early 2000s.

The body is wearing the original paint, and it shines well.  There are a few small dents, please see the photos for most of them.  There is a scuff on the right front lower fender, in front of the door.  Also, the front lower valence was damaged at some point, and was repaired with some pop-rivets and an old for sale sign.  It is not very noticeable from the outside, please look at the photo for more detail.  Some of the DODGE letters are missing on the front.  The original vinyl top is nice, except for the area under the rear window.  The car was kept in a carport for most of her life and as a result has been preserved.  There is no rust anywhere on the body.  The trunk has some rust stain under the rubber mat, but appears very solid.  All windows roll down easily, giving that terrific hardtop look.  Everyone who sees this car is amazed that this is the original paint.

The interior is almost perfect.  The front seat drivers side bottom was repaired at a local shop some time long ago, it is a slight different shade green.  I don't know why it was repaired, as the rest of the interior is spotless.  The dome light lens is missing.  The original two-latch seatbelts work fine.  All the instruments and gauges work, even the original am radio.  The windshield wiper switch was replaced back in 2003, yet is very sensitive.  That is, it has to be just right to switch off.  Overall, the interior is close to showroom.

I've tried to be as comprehensive with my description as possible, I've pointed out all the cars faults that I'm aware of.  I may have made her sound worse than she is, I'd rather the next caretaker to be pleasantly surprised how nice she really is, rather than surprised in a bad way.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer.  I am located in the middle of Georgia, just above Macon, just off of Interstate 75.  I have a clear Georgia title on her in my name, and she is registered, tagged, and insured in my name.

This is a no reserve auction, so please bid intentionally and responsibly.  I am needing to scale back on the number of old cars that I own, so I hope the Polara can go to a good home. Thank you for looking, and let me know if you need anymore information.

I forgot to include two details:  In reference to the photo of the steering column damage, someone had tried to steal the car many years ago while she was parked in her garage.  They only succeeded in breaking the cover, exposing the wires. Please see the photo.  Also, the clock does not work.  If I remember any other details, I will post them.  Thank you for all the interest.

Dodge shows can-do attitude with grand Can'avan sculpture

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

There are lots of ways to celebrate an important birthday, and all of them are well deserved. You can throw a big party, buy yourself something nice, or - if you're the altruistic type - do something for others in need. The latter is how Chrysler has opted to mark the 30th anniversary of its Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.
Together with hunger-advocacy organization Canstruction, the Chrysler Foundation has built a full-scale replica of the Grand Caravan out of 30,000 food cans in the square at the corner of Yonge and Dundas in Toronto, a ways down the highway from where the real vans are built in Windsor. The sculpture was built over the course of 10 hours by 30 volunteers and was displayed earlier this week.
Now the installation is being taken down, and the cans of food are being donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank, which will assemble them into 2,000 food baskets to be distributed to those in need through its network of 200 food banks across the Canadian metropolis. Check out a neat time-lapse video of the build and the press release below.

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.

Mopar '14 teased, returns to Challenger

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

Every year, Mopar selects one special vehicle from the Chrysler portfolio and creates its own, one-off, special edition. Previously, there was the Mopar '13 Dart, '12 300, '11 Charger and the '10 Challenger, and for 2014, this teaser image shows that the company will be giving the unique treatment to Dodge's muscle coupe yet again.
Mopar has not revealed any details about its '14 Challenger, though the brand's president and CEO, Pietro Gorlier, says that "This limited-edition ride is for muscle-car fans who love high octane and customizable performance." All we know is, it's white, has some blue stripes, and a black (or carbon fiber) rear spoiler.
We'll know more when the Mopar '14 Challenger is revealed at the SEMA show in early November. In the meantime, click the image above to check out the teaser in high resolution, and have a look below for Chrysler's official press blast.
