I am selling my 1970 looking 1973 Dodge Challenger Project car simply because I have a new job and have very little time to finish the car now. The car is pretty much just a shell right now, everything has been taken off of the car. I have had the car since the fall of 2009, I have been working on it in my spare time over the years but I have a new job now and little free time to work on the car. The car is sitting on rollers just to move it around, the suspension has been completely removed. Any rusted areas were either cut out or sandblasted by myself.

The Body
I replaced the rusty 1973 fenders with new goodmark 1970/71 fenders, as well as 70/71 quarter panels and 1970 tail panel. The decklid and the hood are both new as well as the trunk floor and drop off's. The doors were in really good shape as was the roof, I welded two patches in the rear roof seams fully since mopars tend to flex and crack the bodyfiller back there. I used to do body work on cars in a restoration shop so I built this one right. I installed subframe connectors and patched the rear frame rails and added extra steel inside the rail itself. The body is nice and strait, I left it in White Sealer primer, all it needs is to be blocked lightly with 320 grit and then wet sanded and then she is ready for paint. This car can be finished in any color since white is a nice undertone especially for bright colors. I have had several pieces of the trim polished but not all of them. The car comes with a good looking 1970 Challenger Grille, new aluminum headlight bezels, 1970 rear tail light housing and lenses. I shaved the side markers shut and I have not drilled any holes in the hood or decklid for emblems.

The Engine
The 440 is a 1972 built motor, I decoded the car and found out that it used to be a 318 automatic car like most of them. I had the motor taken apart and machined professionally at a local shop here in Fargo. The motor has been dunked, honed and bored .30 over. It is unassembled, just a bare block. The pistons and the rods are together, the factory rods have been machined and balanced and I replaced the factory cast iron pistons with Keith Black Hyperutectic pistons. The crankshaft has also been balanced, I have a Lunatee Voodoo cam and lifter set that is good for 1500 to 6200 RPM's. I also have a pair of assembled Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads for the engine which would really up the horse power.

The Drivetrain
I have not had a chance to do anything with the drivetrain, it has an 8 and 3/4 rear end that I disassembled but the third member is still all together. The transmission is not for an E body car, it needs a different tail shaft in order for the shifter to line up where I welded the four speed tunnel hump.

The Steering
The car comes with all of the factory suspension parts plus I bought an E body specific Unisteer Rack and pinion kit that I have already fitted to the car and the factory column.

The Interior
I have all of the interior parts that I could salvage, dash parts, I have a custom cluster I built if the buyer wants it or he can just put the factory gauges in. The door panels and rear panels are in good shape but they need to be prepped and painted. The dash pad is toast so it will need a new one or a cover. The seats that come with the car are not Challenger seats but they look era correct, I built new mounts for them so they fit better in the car if the owner chooses to use them. The seats not only fold forward they also recline back. The car also comes with a center console and a pistol grip shifter.

I have the factory Ralley wheels with white letter Goodyear tires that will also go with the car.
I am sure I am forgetting something about the car, so if you have any questions about it feel free to e-mail me. Good luck bidding.

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.

2015 Dodge Challenger gets 6.4L 485-HP V8 Scat Pack

Thu, 17 Apr 2014

While it's not seeing the drastic facelift of its brother, the Charger, at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2015 Challenger is packing some upgrades of its own. It wears even more retro-inspired styling cues, and there are new 6.4-liter Scat Pack and Shaker trims.
If you thought the Challenger looked retro before, Dodge is taking things even farther with inspiration for the refresh coming from the iconic 1971 model. Up front, it has a new split grille, a larger power bulge in the hood and projector fog lights. At the rear, the classic inspiration continues with split LED taillights with Gloss Black trim, and a rear valance panel redesigned to make the 2015 model look wider and lower.
The '71 motif is carried inside as well with a high-sill center console and aluminum gauge bezels. There's still more than a touch of modernity, with an available 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system and 7-inch customizable display between the retro-inspired speedometer and tachometer. For better safety, the Challenger is also now available with forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross path detection. Stability control and electric power steering are standard across all models too.

Dongfeng and PSA extend Chinese joint venture

Thu, Dec 19 2019

BEIJING/PARIS — China's Dongfeng and Peugeot maker PSA are extending their business cooperation, despite the Chinese company reducing its stake in PSA to help smooth the French carmaker's merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Dongfeng said on Thursday it had agreed with PSA to extend the duration of their joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobiles (DPCA). Under the deal, the venture could get the rights to PSA's new brands in China and will benefit from new technologies and intellectual properties, the Chinese company said. PSA was not immediately available for comment. The announcement comes a day after the companies said Dongfeng would reduce its 12.2% stake in PSA by selling 30.7 million shares to the French company. Analysts said the move could smooth U.S. regulatory approval for PSA's roughly $50 billion (GBP38.97 billion) merger with Italian-American carmaker FCA. The sale of Dongfeng's shares in PSA, worth around 680 million euros ($757 million), will leave the Chinese group holding around 4.5% of the merged PSA-FCA, which is set to become the world's fourth-biggest carmaker by sales volumes. "As the cooperation between Dongfeng and PSA deepens, we expect the joint venture to continue making good progress in China," a Dongfeng representative said. On a conference call, Dongfeng said DPCA would have exclusive rights to PSA's Opel cars should the partners agree to bring the brand to China, and enjoy lower prices on car parts imported from PSA. Earlier this year, a document seen by Reuters showed Dongfeng and PSA plan to cut jobs at Wuhan-based DPCA and reduce its number of car plants to try to make the venture more profitable.
