Every once in a while an opportunity to own what you’ve been waiting for becomes available.  This is one of those opportunities.  If you’re an automotive enthusiast with the means to own the best please take a moment to read the following.

Some people have a tendency to ramble on about what they’re trying to sell.  I will not put you through that exercise.  I will instead stick to the facts about this car and why it should become an addition to your collection.  What makes this car special is not only the rare originality, but the export order code (Y09).  By export, I’m not referring to Canadian export; I’m referring to overseas export (typically military issue).  When Galen Govier was contacted by me he knew of no such car.  After a complete visual inspection and a 30 page report, he now acknowledges this car to be a true export and a one of one example.   One nice benefit when acquiring a car from overseas is that they’re not many replacement parts available.  Hence, why the engine, trans, Dana rear, carbs, manifolds, radiator and distributor are all original to the car.

Facts/Features:

  •         1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack Convertible 4 Speed
  •         Only export 440-6 Challenger R/T Convertible known to exist (Per Galen’s report)
  •         There were only 61 non-export 440-6 Challenger R/T convertible 4 speeds produced
  •         1970 was the only year this car was produced
  •         Authenticated by Galen Govier visual inspection prior to restoration.
  •         Desirable B5 Blue exterior, white interior, white convertible top
  •         Original numbers matching driveline including engine, transmission and rear end

Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot boards meet to finalize merger

Tue, Dec 17 2019

MILAN/PARIS — The boards of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot will meet separately on Tuesday to discuss finalizing an initial agreement for a $50 billion merger to create the world's number four carmaker, sources said. A source close to FCA said the two companies could announce the signing of a binding memorandum early on Wednesday, followed by a conference call to explain further details later in the day. The two mid-sized carmakers announced plans six weeks ago for a tie-up to help them deal with big challenges in the industry, including a global demand downturn and the need to develop costly cleaner cars to meet looming anti-pollution rules. Ahead of the meetings, entities representing the Peugeot family, Etablissements Peugeot Freres (EPF) and FFP, unanimously approved a proposed memorandum of understanding for the planned merger, a source familiar with the situation said. FCA and PSA have said they would seek to finalize a deal by year-end to create a group with 8.7 million in annual vehicle sales. That would put it fourth globally behind Volkswagen, Toyota and the Renault-Nissan alliance. PSA's Carlos Tavares will be chief executive and FCA's John Elkann Β— the scion of Italy's Agnelli family, which controls FCA through their holding company Exor Β— chairman of the combined company. The group will include the Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Peugeot, DS, Opel and Vauxhall brands, allowing it to serve mass and premium passenger car markets as well as those for trucks and light commercial vehicles. Jay Leno drives a 1970 Dodge Charger with 1,650 horsepower

Tue, Feb 23 2016

When Jay Leno says a vehicle might have too much horsepower, he's got our attention piqued. That's exactly what he thinks about the 1970 Dodge Charger Tantrum from Wisconsin-based SpeedKore Performance. While it still looks like a classic muscle car, the front end now features a carbon fiber hood and fenders. Underneath the lightweight parts, there's a twin-turbo, 9.0-liter Mercury Marine offshore boat racing engine with an astonishing 1,650 horsepower, or an only slightly less asinine 1,350 hp on pump gas. Jay is very mechanically intrigued by the Charger at the beginning of this video, and puts it on the lift to take a look at the underside. The engine plumbing is a thing of beauty, and the mill packs a massive radiator and intercooler to keep things running cool. Leno's drive in the Tantrum is especially interesting. The beastly engine is difficult to control, and anything above half throttle in most gears can spin the rear tires. The significant turbo lag also makes the power unpredictable. When Jay finally finds a straight piece of road, he puts the hammer down and rockets into the distance. And, of course, you know Jay's not going to end the video without some suitably smoking tires.
