Up for auction is a lovely 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack.  I am selling this car for a family friend who has owned it for over 20 years and driven it very little.  It is a very solid and honest car.  I would call it a "garage find", since it has been tucked away for so long, albeit always in a completely dry and climate controlled environment.  It has also been started and driven around the neighborhood periodically to maintain it's excellent mechanical condition.  It starts without fuss after a couple cranks and idles very smooth.  I believe the ultra low mileage (under 57k) it's showing to be true.  This car is ready to drive and impress as it sits, or is an ideal dry and straight candidate for an easy restoration to be perfect. The car was not cleaned or shined up at all before the pictures were taken.  It was simply started, and pulled out of the garage.  I am not a Mopar expert, but I do know cars.  This one is amazingly clean, dry, straight, and complete.  It runs and sounds sweet and appears just a few easy things away from being 100% correct as well.  Please feel free to ask questions, and I will do my best to get answers.

Exterior:  The paint is not original but likely an older re-spray.  There is evidence of this in the trunk jamb, where some poor adhesion has led to flaking of the more recent coat.  This is NOT corrosion related at all, and the pictures illustrate that.  Overall it looks great when standing near it.  Not perfect, however.  There are some some minor scratches to be expected in older paint and one area on the drivers front corner showing faint cracking.  There is a picture of this area, and it was the only one like it that I saw.  There is also fading and wear below the gas filler.  The vinyl top is perfect, and must have been recovered.

Interior:  Carpet, doors and dash appear to be original and in excellent condition considering.  The seats are so nice, I'm not sure if they are the original skins.  Overall the interior presents really well , especially with the pistol shifter.  It looks and smells clean, and has no glaring needs inside.  The trunk area is stripped and will need paint/carpet.

Undercarriage:  This car looks really good underneath.  Nothing scary going on at all; straight frame rails and pinch welds, clean and dry motor and transmission, rust free pans and suspension components, etc.  I took a pic of the inside edge of the rear fenders which showed some minor pitting in the metal.  It does not look active at all, and was the only issue I saw worth noting.  The rest was shockingly clean and rust-free.  Brake lines look recent.

Mechanical: This Challenger runs great.  It starts easy, idles smooth, and sounds beautiful with no ticks, knocks, whines etc.  As with any vehicle that has not been driven regularly or for long distances over a period of time, it should be thoroughly gone through before being declared road worthy.  The owner says the clutch is a little spongy, but that is the only thing he could think that it needs.  Aside from that, the only reason it should be towed away is because it hasn't traveled far in a long time.

This is a really cool and special car given it's originality and condition.

'Baby Driver' is a car chase movie set to music

Mon, Mar 13 2017

The Fate of the Furious is certainly the 6,000-pound SUV in the garage of automotive movies, but that doesn't mean gearheads are starved for options. The upcoming film Baby Driver looks to be a winner for car guys, featuring exciting chases with cars including a "hawk-eye" Impreza WRX, a Dodge Challenger, and a 1980s Chevy Caprice. The movie is written and directed by Edgar Wright, whom you may know as the man behind movies such as Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. And based on the two trailers released so far, seen above and below, it's about a young man by the name of Baby, who is a getaway driver for criminals. He's apparently the best in the business, and the secret to his success is the music he listens to while he's driving. He also wants out, but his boss, played by Kevin Spacey, has no intention of letting him go. Spacey is one of a number of major stars in the film, including Jamie Foxx and John Hamm. The driving action shown in the trailers definitely looks entertaining. The WRX is seen doing an array of drifts and J-turns. There is some driving precision on display here that wouldn't be out of place in a Gymkhana video. And it looks like Wright's attention to detail in his shots and transitions, as well as some solid comedy relief, are all going to be present. The film comes out this August. Dodge Durango to stay classy with Ron Burgundy as spokesperson [w/video]

Sat, 05 Oct 2013

The upcoming 2014 Dodge Durango has a lot of things going for it, including its 290-horsepower V6 and 360-hp Hemi V8 engine options, an eight-speed automatic and aggressive looks. And now it will have Ron Burgundy, the fictional television news anchor played by comedian Will Ferrell, as a spokesperson, Adweek reports. He follows in the footsteps of other non-fictional Chrysler brand spokespeople such as Eminem, Clint Eastwood and the late Paul Harvey.
Though the star of 2004's Anchorman and the upcoming Anchorman 2 is wildly popular, we're not sure we see a Dodge spokesperson in Burgundy. (Please, no womanizing or scotchy, scotch, scotch before test test drives). But at this point there's no turning back: Chrysler's chief marketing officer Olivier Francois previewed three ad spots at the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) Masters of Marketing conference in Phoenix on Friday, and says Chrysler has already filmed 68(!) Durango ads with the fictional newsman.
According to Adweek, one of the ads previewed had Burgundy highlighting the SUV's glovebox size, and in another he compared its horsepower to a white horse standing next to him. Will this help Dodge Durango sales improve? We can only wait and see. In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts in Comments, and check out the trailer for Anchorman 2 below.

Dodge revamping lineup with AWD Challenger and lighter Charger

Tue, Sep 6 2016

Dodge's current lineup is aging rapidly. The Charger, for example, is going on 5 years old but its platform dates back to 2006. FCA, according to Automotive News, is working on revitalizing Dodge's lineup with the first of some new models debuting later this year. The report reveals plans for the majority of FCA's brands, but the most interesting bit of information is an all-wheel-drive model for the Dodge Challenger, which is being referred to as the GT AWD. Mopar unveiled the Challenger GT AWD Concept at SEMA last year as a concept, but it looks like the idea stuck. The vehicle is set to make its debut this fall and will lead the way for a wide-body, Hellcat-powered version that will be released in 2017. That model will be called the Challenger ADR. The entire Challenger lineup will be redesigned in 2018, which includes switching over to the lighter Giorgio platform - the same one that underpins the Alfa Romeo Guilia Dodge will also redesign the Charger to accommodate the new Giorgio platform in 2018. A new two-door convertible could debut in 2021, resurrecting the Barracuda moniker. The aging Dodge Durango will get a light refresh in 2017 with the addition of an SRT model, which Automotive News reports will feature a 6.4-liter V8 engine. Other changes are in store for other FCA brands, including the debut of full-size crossover in 2018 for Chrysler, which will be followed by a midsize crossover in 2019. The Jeep Compass and Wrangler will get a redesign for 2017, with the Cherokee getting a light makeover, as well. The Wrangler-based pickup truck, which we recently spotted testing, is set for its debut in 2018, while the Wagoneer will come out a year later.
