On the block: 1980 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 with NH title. Back seats have enough room to fit or fold down for extra storage room. 2.8L Straight 6 accompanied with 5 speed manual transmission. Car runs and drives strong: nice enough to save for the weekends and durable and reliable enough for everyday driving. Car has extensive paper work including original sales sticker, original manual, and original warranty and service manual. Car had many repairs in 2004 as well as the paperwork to back it up. Car is in great shape and is easily one of the best 280's out there.

The Good: Mechanically the car is very strong, all electronics work especially door light and bell when door is ajar as well as working engine bay light. A/C is cold, and the heat works great. Power windows and power mirrors all operate with out flaw. Dashboard is un-cracked, and interior is impeccable. Gear box and clutch are tight and deliver plenty of power to the rear wheels. Handling and braking are very sensitive and have all the power to take tight runs or bring the car to a fast halt. Extensive paperwork dating back to 1985.

The Bad: With all 30+ year old cars it has some minor issues. Seeps oil and some leakage through moon roof. The moon roof is inoperable and chalked closed. The starter can sometimes be fiddly in the cold weather but a roll start is usually the answer. The car has some rust that was resulted in a poor paint prep. Some rust along roof line where windshield meets the roof as well as some rust on the cowl.

I am the third owner of this vehicle and this car is nothing short of amazing. I always get looks and compliments and most of the time people think its a Porsche. I am listing this car with all aspects that have been presented to me and my knowledge; there may be unseen issues I am not aware of. Please use caution and do research before placing a bid on this car. Good luck and good bidding.

This car is being offered and posted to the best knowledge of the seller. Please ask questions before bidding if concerned. This car is being offered with no warranty guaranteed or implied. The buyer is responsible for all shipping related to the car.

Fiat contemplating sub-brand to compete with Dacia, Datsun

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

You can add Fiat to the admittedly short list of automakers considering a low-cost brand to rival Dacia. The inexpensive Eastern European brand from Renault-Nissan has performed on the balance sheet like a premium model line, and the money the alliance is taking off the table is encouraging other players to deal themselves in. Pretty soon Nissan's Datsun sub-brand will join the Dacia party, going on sale in Russia, Indonesia and India and will claim even more rubles, rupiahs and rupees for the parent company. Volkswagen recently said it will make a decision this year on a budget line for the Chinese market. With the euthanasia of Lancia and plans to move the Fiat brand upmarket, company CEO Sergio Marchionne wonders aloud to Automotive News Europe whether there could be room for a new budget brand underneath Fiat.
We're told that the initiative has been in the idea box for five years and even moved to the stage of name considerations, like Innocenti, but worries about profit kept it from realization. If such a range were to be developed, Marchionne says it couldn't be built in Italy and stay within budget, and the company is "analyzing its manufacturing capacity outside of Europe to see if a low-cost brand is viable."

Renault planning a Tata Nano rival. Again.

Wed, 28 Nov 2012

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well - at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections - and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world.
Renault believes there is, kind of. Automotive News Europe reports that it will partner with Nissan to build two low-priced cars for emerging markets, one for €3,000 ($3,888 U.S.) and another for €5,000 ($6,400 U.S.). The price of the least expensive offering is nearly $1,400 more than a Nano, which costs $2,500, and that can't be considered a small sum in comparison. But one of the hindsight knocks on the Nano has been that even in emerging markets buyers don't want a car whose biggest lure is that it is cheap; they'd rather give their aspirations a bit more of a workout.
Renault's offerings are scheduled to hit the non-Western market in late 2014, which is coincidentally the same year that will see the return of the budget-minded and emerging-market-specific Datsun nameplate. They'll be built in Renault facilities in Chennai, India, with no mention made of Bajaj this time around.

37K miles in a 1967 Datsun Roadster

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

When we think of comfy, long-distance road cars, there are a few obvious choices. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Bentley Continental GT or, assuming fuel efficiency isn't paramount, a Range Rover are all good options for a road trip. But what if that road trip was 37,000 miles? Maybe something more reliable but still comfortable, then, like a Honda Accord. What about a 1967 Datsun Roadster?
As insane as it sounds, Scott Fisher is doing just that, running a Datsun 1600 Roadster across North America and racking up 13,500 miles in his first three months on the road. His total journey will see him pile over 37,000 miles on his red convertible. The car is lightly modified, but most of the work is for the sake of reliability and comfort, with a five-speed manual 'box, an upgraded radiator and electronic ignition.
Fisher's trip hasn't been all smooth, with a few typical bits of trouble. He also ran into some deer in Utah, quite literally, clipping one of the animals, which delivered quite a bit of damage to the passenger's front fender (hence the rear three-quarter view in our lead shot). Still, the car seems to be holding up well, as shown in this latest video from Petrolicious.
