1979 Datsun 280zx on 2040-cars

Year:1979 Mileage:113890
Location:

Fresno, California, United States

For sale By owner is a 1979 Datsun 280zx. Currently sitting after an engine rebuild with 5 miles on new engine. I am looking at buying a motorcycle, I am tired of working on this car, ive spent more than its worth, time to let someone else with the correct troubleshooting knowledge take care of it. If you have a motorcycle that you would be interested in trading, i can place cash on top for local sales as well.

ENGINE:
L28 Inline 6, stock rebuild, mahle rings and bearings, valve job and adjustment, new timing chain and tensioner. All new seals including valve seals, and all new gaskets.

TRANSMISSION:
Stock non world class T-5, 5 speed manual, previous owner replaced the clutch.

ELECTRONICS:
Many new sensors were replaced, including the O-2, coolant head temperature sensor, fuel pump, pcv valve, new ignition switch, and starter. currently i believe the alternator doesnt work, the light came on for the charging on the dash. after the new engine was put in, the rpm doesnt work and neither does the gas gauge, i looked up why they didnt work and everyone told me the alternators diodes went out, causing the dash to not function correctly.

GOOD:
The good news about this car is it runs great, after the engine rebuild it revs really smooth like and original z car. It has T-Tops, and the seals are in great shape, there are no leaks during rain, and they are a blast to take off and roll the windows down. Interior is in awesome condition, the seats look brand new still, no tears. the carpet is in good condition as well. Tires are also brand new, great tread on them. Car runs and drives great.

BAD:
There are some issues with this car, i bought it with a clean title a year and a half ago, it had back fees that totaled in over $750! My solution was, before i registered it in my name, I brought it to a wrecking yard, they "dismantled" it, meaning it sat in a locked yard for a month for dmv papers to be completed. The dismantle eliminated all the back fees, but salvaged the title. I thought it was worth it at the time because that was a huge amount to pay for registration. The car is still unregistered, and on the lien sale paper from the wrecking yard. I have the paper still. The other bad is that the alternator needs replacing, a $50 on ebay. the turn signals also dont work. Headlights and tail lights do work.

The car also comes with the service manual, a long tube header and y pipe.

I dont know a lot about these old cars, i cant tune them correctly, it needs to be timed and tuned because its running a little rich. The car has a push to start button as well as a fuel pump switch.

If you have any questions please contact me, ive spent over $2000 in parts and the rebuild, not including the price of the car, I just want to focus on my other car and getting a bike.

Roadkill pits every project car against each other

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.

Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."

Datsun reveals new On-Do budget sedan in Russia [w/video]

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

When Nissan revived the Datsun brand name, it essentially hit the "undo" button on the rebranding it undertook decades ago. But this time, the Datsun name is being used solely as a budget brand for developing markets. The reborn marque launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's back again with the new On-Do sedan.
Launched in Moscow by CEO Carlos Ghosn, the On-Do was designed and engineered in Japan specifically for the Russian market - Nissan's fifth largest worldwide - where it will be built at the AvtoVaz plant in Togliatti. Decidedly budget-oriented, the Datsun On-Do is a four-door, five-seat econo-box measuring 172 inches long, 67 inches wide and 60 inches tall with an 18.7 cubic-foot trunk which Datsun describes as class-leading. Punctuating an otherwise bland shape is a large front grille and lighting front and rear that looks (and very well might be) bigger than the wheels.
Not that the Datsun On-Do needs a big contact patch to transfer power to the road: motivation is provided by a 1.6-liter engine with a grand total of - wait for it... wait a little longer - 87 horsepower. Which might strike you as a reasonable amount of muscle, considering the 400,000 rubles Datsun is getting for the On-Do (but consider that translates to about $11,300). That's a couple grand more than what Nissan gets for the Micra in that other giant northern country, or about the same amount it gets for the Versa in the US (which sells in Russia for 499k in rubles) - both of which are powered by what is in all likelihood the same 1.6-liter four but producing 109 hp. Of course Russia has different tax rates than the United States or Canada, but with such little power, the Datsun would fall into Russia's lowest tax bracket.
