1978 Datsun 280Z Restoration project for sale.  Owned by me since around 1997, but have not driven since purchase.  Stored under carport or garage since.  Don't buy a pig-in-a-poke, no hidden rust or dents in these photos.  Sale includes all interior parts which have been removed, cleaned and stored in totes inside.  Silver with black interior, 4 speed manual with an additional 5-speed transmission.  All new factory emblems, many new factory parts, which include but are not limited to door seals, hatch seal, exterior door chrome door pieces where arm would rest if hanging arm out window, matching complete factory lock set, several new light lenses......all ready for an eager re-builder to install.  Only one crack in dash as shown in photo.  Stock bumpers in good shape, rubber bumper ends are in great shape.  Aftermarket front air dam as well as stock front under bumper components included.  Rear hatch area fiber-glassed to stop rust, and have replacement piece to go there from junk yard.  Intake and Exhaust manifolds are stock and have been jet-hot coated.  New Mallory Unilite distributor.  New seat foam with new seat covers.  New Injectors purchased about 10 years ago, but not "run" very long.  Cranks and runs fine but smokes, probably needs valve job.  Has approx. 135K miles.  No factory AC, had aftermarket AC at one time but compressor has been removed.  78 factory am/fm radio, 70's era "Datsun" 8-track tape player to mount under dash if you desire.  Suggest pick up with tilt bed, and additional pickup to carry parts.
What this car needs: carpet kit, engine valve job, minor body work & paint, then all new and original parts (which are included) put back together.
Buyer responsible for all cost to have Z transported to wherever.  Title available upon clearing of funds.
A great project car for anyone who loves this style Z, last year of this small body style.

First new Datsun in decade sketched, set for Indian reveal

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

Nissan's Datsun nameplate revival will begin with two models bound for the Indian market. Nissan has released sketches of a five-door hatchback based on the Micra (codenamed K2) and a top-down view of a hood that could potentially be from a sedan.
The company's press release says all will be revealed on July 15 in New Delhi, India. The Datsun lineup will be first offered in 2014 to that country's ride-deprived residents as well as Indonesia and Russia. Later in 2014, South Africa will join the list.
We've heard Nissan plans for Datsuns to share platforms with company-owned Lada. In January, we heard the projected price tag could be around $3,000 USD to compete with Chinese imports. The official press release (which can be read in full below) says nothing about either of these reports, however.

Datsun debuts new seven-seat Go+ in Indonesia [w/video]

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

The Datsun name may have long since been replaced by Nissan, but the old brand is making a comeback - in certain markets, at least. Nissan relaunched the Datsun brand in July as its new budget brand for developing markets with the debut of the Go hatchback, and has now followed up with the addition of the larger Go+.
Set to be built in Indonesia at Nissan's plant in Purwakarta, the Go+ debuts today in the capital of Jakarta as the second model in the new Datsun lineup. The seven-passenger minivan features flexible seating in a compact form 13 feet long, powered by an unspecified 1.2-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Nissan isn't saying much else about the model, but hopes the new Datsun twins will account for half of its sales in Indonesia within three years. The low price target for both models - set to come in at less than 100 million rupiah ($8,700) - ought to help it get there. The lineup is then scheduled to reach other markets, starting with India, Russia and South Africa next year.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.
