Circle Pines, Minnesota, United States

I977 Datsun 280Z, 5015 actual miles, auto trans,Been sitting on and off for some time, Previous owners bought new in Calif. Have documentation on most of the history of car, Going thru some of the service records and history orig. owner had trouble with fuel inj. from almost day one, probably mostly from not being driven enough, or just plain trouble I would guess, They sold it and the owner I bought it from said he drove it and it ran fine until sediment plugged up the fuel inj. again. Anyway long story short he took it to a shop and they started replacing some fuel parts and labor which were adding up money wise pretty fast. I Believe they never flushed the gas tank ( In their defense they were told it was clean and it wasn't) Anyway he finally got kinda frustrated with the progress or lack there of and also he winding down on the toys( He is in his mid to late 70's) Car has had some paint work over the years, He said a car cover was on the car when he was trailering it cross country from old home to new home. Car is not mint, mint but pretty close and overall very nice and super low miles.

Overall it is a neat car, I took the gas tank out and it needs to be boiled out or treated. Car will not run unless fuel system is fixed. When I found out about the car I looked it over pretty good, neat color, overall cond. matched miles and interior is excellent with no wear or cracks. It is a two seater not the 2+2. At first I wasn't crazy about the auto because I personally think a manual tranny is more desirable in a Z but with the miles and the overall shape cars come up like this very rarely.  I never planned to sell it until I sorted it out and I still might not, Deal is a friend of mine told me today he is selling his very orig.  57 Chev, and he gave me an opportunity to buy it,  so I am going to put a few things on ebay that I would never sell so soon. I work a lot and with older cars and motorcycles I own time just seems to be flying by, plus just plain time to downsize maybe or think about it.  If deal falls thru on Chev I am going to remove all my listings to be honest. But I am going to give it a shot, just got home from looking at it and went right on computer. I encourage any questions please e-mail me thru ebay and I will also talk to you in person. Or please look at in person if possible before bidding, nothing to hide but when buying something of value be prudent, I am fussy, check my feedback and what I have sold, not much but all excellent cond. items. That is the way it should be Honest seller to Buyer. No games or scams please, I think I have read or heard about most of them. I am not a dealer. Private collector, Friends tease me because I rarely sell anything, but here goes.

I have owned a few Porsche's over the years, most were very low mile orig. cars, some of the later ones were Bosch FI, Good friend of mine owns a high end foreign repair shop and he services and races Porsche's (944, gt3, Cayman S) you name it they are very trick and spendy. He told me to keep it FI and he would even help me get it up and running, he also said some FI parts are now pretty reasonable priced while some Bosch parts are spendy so check.  I also thought about putting Dual carbs like the early Z's, Talked to a few vendors that do the carb conversion properly and they gave me estimates of about 850.00 - 1000.00 with air cleaner to do it right.  It's a toss up  troublesome FI or carbs both about the same to get back on road, I was leaning on putting carbs( They look and sound cool) on and keep all the factory equipment. I know alot of guys are putting in small block chevys in these also (I also have some older chevy muscle cars)  relatively easy swap but car is too nice to not keep not orig. Also going to list 1941 ford 2dr. nice orig. Also maybe some of my vintage motorcycles also(35+)  Right to end auction any time, for sale locally. Cash or bank wire, certified funds, us buyers only, in the event of a sale, car  does not get shipped until funds clear. Thanks Mike

Datsun officially reborn with Go model for India [w/video]

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

In March of 2012, Nissan announced the return of its historic Datsun brand. Datsun used to represent the Nissan brand in a number of markets, but its badge hasn't been worn on a new model since 1981. In 2013, though, it has been relaunched as the Japanese manufacturer's budget offering in the emerging markets of India and Russia.
The model that will lead that charge, at least in India, is the Go, a car that pays tribute to the very first Datsun, the DAT-GO.
The operative term with the Datsun brand is: "budget offering." Don't step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals (it's being sold in India, after all). The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the five-speed manual and the center stack above it are rather barren. It's not without luxuries, though, as iPod-style connectivity is available through a Mobile Docking Station.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.

Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.
