Also leaks some oil, and not all electronics work properly. Please see description for more details."

Beautiful 1973 Datsun 240Z. Last year a L28ET was swapped in, along with the 5-speed transmission from a 280ZX turbo. Other modifications include an intercooler, Tokico shocks/springs, Konig Rewind rims, Toyo tires.

BODY: This Z was professionally painted in 2008. The car was original painted lime yellow. A previous owner had it painted grey, then I had it painted 905 red, and original Datsun color. IMO, the body shop did a fantastic job, pics do not do it justice. Its a  very striking car and turns ALOT of heads. When the car was being worked on, it did pick up a few flaws on the body: 1) there is a chip on the right quarter panel. This has been temporarily touched-up to avoid any accumulation of rust (see pic); 2) also there is a small dent at the front edge of the hood (see pic). Otherwise the car is in great sgape with no rust on the body.

INTERIOR: The interior is in decent condition. The original dash had multiple cracks, so I covered it with a dash cover. Many of the interior trim parts I replaced, for example the sills, and the inner door covers. The handle for the driver's side window is currently not attached. All carpeting is intact.

Some electronics work, some don't. The lights, turn signals, speedometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure guage all work. The tachometer, windshield wipers, fuel guage, and clock do not.

ENGINE: The car originally had either 150,000 or 250, 000 miles on it (the odometer only has 5 digits). The turbo motor that has been swapped in, according to the seller, has around 80,000 miles (the mechanics who did the swap confirmed this was about right). Since the engine swap was completed last year, I've driven the car maybe 600 miles, mostly drama free. There are some issues though. After the car warms up, there is some smoke (white) when the car is idling. The gasket (along with all gaskets) were replaced per the mechanics, so I don't think that's the problem. It could possibly be a turbo seal. Also the car leaks some oil, from around the oil filter. If you look at a stock 280ZX turbo, the oil filter angles downward. On this car, it doesn't, it's level like a non-turbo Z, so apparently there is a part missing between the engine block and the filter, resulting in the leak.

Also, when you stop the engine, and pull out the key, the engine keeps running. I have to pop the clutch to stop the engine. This could just be the idle is set too high...or possibly ignition issues.

MISC: I really don't want to sell this car, but I've spent a ton of money on it, and it still has problems. I highly recommend this car is bought by someone with mechanical skills and alot of experience dealing with Nissan L-series motors. I've tried to be as honest as I could be with the description, but due to the age of the car plus the modifications, I recommend anyone that is serious about buying the car, come have a look in person, before they make a final decision. Please email me with any questions.

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.

Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.

Nissan IDx 'in the plan' for production, needs support from fans [w/poll]

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

If there's a trend in the auto industry we can firmly get behind, it's the small, light and affordable rear-drive coupe. The positive critical reception to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins has encouraged other manufacturers to look at building their own rear drivers, and even a few to show actual concept cars based on the idea. The Chevrolet Code 130R from 2012 and more recently, the Nissan IDx twins that were first shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show both come to mind, as does the brand-new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
Nissan trotted out the IDx Nismo and the IDx Freeflow for another showing in Detroit and we'll admit to being totally smitten with both cars. Again. The duo draw inspiration from the iconic Datsun 510, a lightweight, affordable rear-driver that remains a cult favorite decades after production ended.
Now, a report from our friends at AutoWeek reveals that we may, possibly, hopefully see a production IDx, provided fans make a strong enough case for it. "It's in the plan," Nissan product boss Andy Palmer told AW. According to the report, Palmer said the IDx is "into the first sage of the development process. The next stage is project validation and then looking at the business case. It's no one's intent to waste millions of the company's money, so obviously we have a good feeling about this one."
