I purchased this 240z last fall, with the intent of restoring it, swapping in a manual transmission and simply enjoying it. I have always liked the Green/Butterscotch color combination in the 240z. It is rare to find a Z with the body in this good of a condition here in the north east. Here is what I know about it. This was originally a California car, that was brought east maybe 10 years ago, and has not been subjected to harsh winter driving. It was in storage in central PA when I found it. It had been partially disassembled in order to do a full body paint and restoration, and had not been driven in a few years. I went through the brake system (replacing the master cylinder), refreshed the carburetors, replaced the radiator with an aluminum one, replaced the fan clutch, changed the oil and trans fluid, adjusted the valves, and was about to register the car and drive it this spring. I had already transferred the title in my name last fall, but I am in the middle of garage/workshop construction, and should not have picked up another project until I had a place to work on it. Having had Z-cars for 20+ years, I want to be completely transparent and go over everything I found with the car.

Engine and transmission ... stock L24 with E88 head. It runs smooth, doesn't smoke, and revs effortlessly as a Zcar should. The automatic trans shifts smoothly through the gears, and makes no strange noises, etc. I have a set of manual pedals I can include with the sale, incase the winning bidder is of the same mind as I.

Interior ... Butterscotch (AKA tan) interior. seats show some wear and tear on the bolsters, but overall OK condition. The door panels are near mint, with the shiny chrome strips 100% intact. The glove box is in excellent shape (most are torn and falling apart). The dash has 3 cracks across the center (from sitting out in the Cali sun no doubt), The carpets are old but not torn, and the door weather stripping needs replaced. The factory AM/FM radio, wipers, turn signals, and gauges all work (except for the clock ofcourse). The antenna is always up. The passengers side door weather stripping, tan above door trim, and kick plates were taken apart in partial preparation for new paint, but all are included.

Body ... This is the most important part to us Z-guys :-) The car, I was told, has had one respray. I can see no signs of it ever having been in an accident. As you can see from the pictures, the rear deck and hatch area are clean. The wheel arches and dog legs are clean. Rocker panels are clean. Drivers fender is clean. Passengers fender has 2 quarter size bubbles at the bottom. Passengers side headlight bucket has some rust in the bucket itself, under the headlight - first time I have seen one rust there. The lower front valance is dinged up, presumably from a curb or something. The battery tray area looks clean. Worst place on the car is the lower edge of the drivers door. I took a specific photo of that area as well. The passenger side floor and frame rail are clean. The drivers side has had some of the seams treated with some type of hard epoxy that appears to have held up well. I tested the frame rail areas with a magnet to make sure that they were not hiding shotty fiberglass repairs or something... The underside of the car shows no rust and is solid. The spare tire well is clean as well. All of the body lines line up nicely, making this an excellent candidate for restoration. There are some dings and dents on the hood, windshield cowling, and roof, from what looks like items in storage being placed on the car.

I am starting the bid at $3000, and will allow the auction it to run its course. It is becoming harder to find a relatively stock, numbers matching 240z as so many have been modified extensively... I would suggest having it towed home, as it is not registered nor tagged, so I do not know how it will do on the roads. I do not know how much shipping will be, as that will be up to the buyer...local pickup is preferred...Winning bidder, please contact me after auctions end to discuss payment. I request a $200 deposit to be paid within 24 hours of auctions close ...

Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!!!

Datsun officially reborn with Go model for India [w/video]

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

In March of 2012, Nissan announced the return of its historic Datsun brand. Datsun used to represent the Nissan brand in a number of markets, but its badge hasn't been worn on a new model since 1981. In 2013, though, it has been relaunched as the Japanese manufacturer's budget offering in the emerging markets of India and Russia.
The model that will lead that charge, at least in India, is the Go, a car that pays tribute to the very first Datsun, the DAT-GO.
The operative term with the Datsun brand is: "budget offering." Don't step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals (it's being sold in India, after all). The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the five-speed manual and the center stack above it are rather barren. It's not without luxuries, though, as iPod-style connectivity is available through a Mobile Docking Station.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.

Datsun to unveil second model later this month

Sun, 08 Sep 2013

Datsun, Nissan's new sub-brand for emerging markets, has announced plans to unveil its second model. Its first, the Go, was unveiled almost two months ago, and promised affordable, connected motoring for five in a handsome hatchback body. Datsun is following that up with a pair of new models for Indonesia.
The first of these two new vehicles will be shown on September 17 in Jakarta, eschewing the typical auto show debut. It's targeted at so-called "risers," the nickname for a group of highly aspirational customers in the Indonesian market. Datsun developed it locally with help from Nissan, and it'll cost under 100 million Indonesian rupiah (about $8,900 at today's rates).
We'll have the full boatload of information on the newest member of the Datsun family when it debuts on September 17. Scroll on to read the full press release from Datsun.
