1972 Datsun 240z Project Car - No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, United States
NO RESERVE!!!! For years parts were collected "just in case" a beloved 1972 Datsun 240z needed something replaced. Twenty years ago "just in case" became "for its restoration". Now that restoration is finally complete & what remains is "in the way". Our Horde Is Your Reward! Up for sale is a 1972 Datsun 240Z project car. This car was last running and driving in 1994. At that time, I was moving it across the yard when the brakes failed and I ran into my van and damaging the passenger side headlight bucket. Except for some gauges in the dash which needed some minor wiring work, most everything else on it worked. I drove it inside my parent’s barn & parked it with the intent of fixing it up at some point. Unfortunately, life & other projects got in the way so it sat there for the next 20 years until I pulled it out to take these pictures. I haven’t tried to start it as it will need new fluids and hoses, battery, etc. It is however a pretty solid car for someone looking to put in the time to make it nice. The sheet metal is solid, and although the interior is disassembled, it still smells fresh and clean with no evidence of critters invading it and making it all crappy. I‘m not sure what all is missing, but I do know it does not have a cowl panel or front turn signals. I think everything else is there, including the hood. The car comes with a complete used dash wiring harness in addition to the one in it. The car is an automatic. It has Italian mag wheels of some sort but, unfortunately, not all of the tires hold air. It has a clear Pennsylvania title. I can help with delivery within 200 miles for a reasonable fee. I also have two additional engines and a 4 speed available separately if interested. NO RESERVE!!!! Nissan IDx 'in the plan' for production, needs support from fans [w/poll]
Wed, 15 Jan 2014If there's a trend in the auto industry we can firmly get behind, it's the small, light and affordable rear-drive coupe. The positive critical reception to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins has encouraged other manufacturers to look at building their own rear drivers, and even a few to show actual concept cars based on the idea. The Chevrolet Code 130R from 2012 and more recently, the Nissan IDx twins that were first shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show both come to mind, as does the brand-new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
Nissan trotted out the IDx Nismo and the IDx Freeflow for another showing in Detroit and we'll admit to being totally smitten with both cars. Again. The duo draw inspiration from the iconic Datsun 510, a lightweight, affordable rear-driver that remains a cult favorite decades after production ended.
Now, a report from our friends at AutoWeek reveals that we may, possibly, hopefully see a production IDx, provided fans make a strong enough case for it. "It's in the plan," Nissan product boss Andy Palmer told AW. According to the report, Palmer said the IDx is "into the first sage of the development process. The next stage is project validation and then looking at the business case. It's no one's intent to waste millions of the company's money, so obviously we have a good feeling about this one."
Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars
Fri, 05 Sep 2014There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.
Malaise Era All-Stars
Fri, 17 May 2013A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites:
