1971 Series 1 240z Racecar With Orig Engine Bre Tribute Car on 2040-cars
Kelseyville, California, United States
What’s up for bid? A series one Dec 70 build date 1971 Datsun 240z. A sweet looking and driving Brock Racing Enterprizes (BRE) Tribute car licensed for the paint scheme from Peter Brock himself. He interviewed me to confirm I was on the right track, no pun intended. Check out Youtube title: VID00001 BRE TRIBUTE 1971 240Z dated Apr 2014 at Thunderhill Raceway Park, near Willows, CA. So, what’s this car got besides the classic paint scheme? It’s a full on race car and has been raced. Firstly, it has the original numbers matching engine. Yes, there are several places to find the numbers that confirm this is the same engine and body matching and they all confirm the fact; engine/Vin matching. What
else is in this car? A full on endurance
set up racecar. With fully adjustable
toe in and camber, front and rear plus castor up front. And,
fully adjustable ride height on all four corners with after market spring
perches and modified strut tubes for double adjustable yellow Koni’s. Hubs are all modified to 5 lug 4.5” spacing, fitting Ford plus others. Brakes are 4 piston Toyota
calipers up front with 300ZX vented rotors.
Rears are 240SX disc brakes and rotors; fronts are endurance racing and
rears are racing pads, all by Porterfield.
Installed late last spring to finish the 2013 TT season with NASA and
set up for NASA’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
We did not enter that race but the car was ready. I and my son raced it in Washington State July 2013 with SOVREN at the Historic races at Pacific Raceway. SOVREN logbook documents that tech “cleared to race”. Of course it comes with NASA and SOVREN logbooks, it has a full on cage meeting their stringent specs of tech. It has a side net for driver, window net and two race seats installed with appropriate belts for TT at NASA. Driver’s seat is out of race date. All other dated equipment, side net, window net and driver’s belts are 2013 dated. Fire extinguisher comes with the car but pax seat is mounted where the extinguisher goes. Remount if desired. The car has a removable MOMO steering wheel. After market tach on steering post with modified original gauges. Clock is tempermental but works with engine running. I think it likes good vibrations. Car does have an AFR gauge installed for Air Fuel Ratio measurements. Car was rewired with an EZ Wire kit/fuse block from dash forward. Has voltmeter vice ammeter gauge. Drive train: Engine dynos out at 170 HP (chassis dyno) the max horsepower /per minimum competition weight (with driver and gas) of 2425 at 14.25 lbs/ hp. authorized in NASA’s Time Trials D (delta) class this car runs in. It has triple Italian Webers. Transmission is the ’83 280ZX with 4 speeds forward. Drive shaft is shortened due to longer tail piece on tranny. Rear end is 300ZX Turbo, LSD. Engine, tranny and rear end all worked by pros; seals, bearings, etc. No leaks. Two sets of 15 inch wheels/racing tires; mounted come with the car. One set of 225/60 15 Hoosiers with one race weekend on them, one set of 225/50/15 Toyo RA1a with grooves showing. Good racing rubber on all 8 tires. Car is currently street registered with CA DMV. Nice to be able to test legally prior to trailering to the track. Prep for paint was total: no rust now; some was found but all treated, removed or simply cut out and new metal welded in. Paint is hardened single stage. Aerodynamics has been worked hard on this car. It appears simple but per the best wind tunnel testing I could locate (didn’t actually put this car in the tunnel) this car produces 1100lbs of downforce at 100 mph nullifying any lifting (and that's about 1100 lbs by the way) meaning; good aero kills all the lift and improves mileage 2 mpg at 70 mph, about the average speed at Thunderhill for a lap. Told you this was an endurance set up racecar. Email me your questions as I know I haven’t fully explained everything. All picts in this listing were taken either late last year or this year as paint went on this car May, 2013. It’s not a show car; it’s a race car, and it has the nicks and scratches and dings to prove it. Want to show it? Enter it in the raced car class. If they don’t have one, politely ask them for a no trailer queen class. |

Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]
Wed, 05 Feb 2014Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.
First new Datsun in decade sketched, set for Indian reveal
Mon, 01 Jul 2013Nissan's Datsun nameplate revival will begin with two models bound for the Indian market. Nissan has released sketches of a five-door hatchback based on the Micra (codenamed K2) and a top-down view of a hood that could potentially be from a sedan.
The company's press release says all will be revealed on July 15 in New Delhi, India. The Datsun lineup will be first offered in 2014 to that country's ride-deprived residents as well as Indonesia and Russia. Later in 2014, South Africa will join the list.
We've heard Nissan plans for Datsuns to share platforms with company-owned Lada. In January, we heard the projected price tag could be around $3,000 USD to compete with Chinese imports. The official press release (which can be read in full below) says nothing about either of these reports, however.
Roadkill pits every project car against each other
Sat, 22 Feb 2014The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.
