FCA CEO Mike Manley will run Americas for Stellantis after PSA merger

DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley will run operations in the Americas when his company merges with FranceÂ’s PSA Peugeot early next year. FCA Chairman John Elkann announced ManleyÂ’s new post on Friday in a letter to employees. ManleyÂ’s role in the merged company had been a mystery. PSA CEO Carlos Tavares will run the overall company, to be named Stellantis. Shareholders of both companies will vote on the merger Jan. 4 to seal the deal creating the worldÂ’s fourth-largest automaker. The merger is expected to be completed by the end of March. PSA will get six seats on the new companyÂ’s 11-member board, which will be chaired by Elkann. The Americas, especially the U.S., are key to the new companyÂ’s success. Fiat ChryslerÂ’s Jeep and Ram brands are highly profitable, and Tavares has long wanted to sell PSA vehicles in the U.S. Manley has been the Italian-American automakerÂ’s CEO for 2 1/2 years, taking over when Sergio Marchionne died in 2018. Stellantis will have the capacity to produce 8.7 million cars a year, just behind Volkswagen, the Renault-Nissan alliance and Toyota. GM, Chrysler bailouts saved 2.6 million jobs

The Center for Automotive Research (CAR) has been studying the effects of the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts in 2009. Now that the US Treasury has officially sold off the rest of its stake in GM (and Chrysler has already paid back its loan), CAR has released its study on the effects of the bailout with this concluding note: "CAR is confident that in the years ahead, this peacetime intervention in the private sector by the US government will be seen as one of the most successful in US economic history."
Big words, for sure, but there's plenty of evidence to back up the claim. Bailing out GM alone saved 1.2-million jobs. If both GM and Chrysler hadn't been bailed out, US employment would have been reduced by 2.631-million jobs in 2009 and another 1.519-million jobs in 2010, according to the study. If both automakers were allowed to fail, personal income in the US would have decreased by $173.5 billion in 2009 and $110.9 billion in 2010. Instead, the study found that $284.4 billion of personal income was saved by the bailouts.

What the Chrysler 200 will probably look like in convertible form

Since 1996, Chrysler has offered a convertible version of its Sebring and 200. As this seems very unlikely to change, it's safe to assume that a new 200 Convertible is in the works following the unveiling of the radically redesigned sedan. What it will look like, though, remains an open question.
Traditionally, the only major styling differences between the Sebring/200 Convertible and the sedan were found above the beltline. It's likely a 2016 200 Convertible would follow a similar philosophy, especially considering the dashing good looks of the redesigned sedan.
Artist Theophilus Chin has a similar idea, as shown in a pair of renderings he's released. Using a few of the stock photos from the 200 Sedan's reveal, Chin has given us our first glimpse of what a 200 Convertible could looks like. It's sharp, retaining the good looks of the sedan. The windshield looks like it's been swept back further, and obviously, there are a pair of doors missing. Other than that, it's the same attractive car that debuted at Detroit.
