Top-Down Driving Just in Time for Summer!

I am the second owner (since February 2005) of this metallic red/black top 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible. It is powered by the Mitsubishi-built 2.5 liter V-6. I am selling to make room for a Lincoln Town Car I have purchased.  For the last year I have used the Sebring primarily as my commuter car to and from work averaging less than 20 miles per day.  It currently has roughly 108,500 miles on the clock.  I have used Premium gas in it for best performance.

The car is mechanically sound and shifts smoothly. Power driver’s seat, power driver mirror, and power windows and door locks, of course. Head lights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals are fine.

The Michelin tires are less than one year old.  Inner and outer tie rods were replaced in 2013. The car received a complete front brake overhaul in 2012 with new rotors and calipers.  Entire brake system was inspected recently and front pads and rear shoes have plenty of mileage left.  A new battery was installed eight months ago and a new alternator installed last month.

The A/C compressor was replaced in 2011.  The blower and compressor operate, but the control switch to turn on the blower and regulate speed is not working properly.  The Riker’s A/C technician confirmed compressor and blower are fine.  A replacement switch module from the Chrysler dealer is over $300 but you can get one from the salvage yards for about $50. I have the receipts for all this work.

Appearance and Interior

The car received a complete premium paint job by Maaco in November 2010 That same month the Sebring received a new, high-quality convertible top. The rear window is glass and is defogging. At that time all new vinyl seating was also installed to replace the cracked and damaged leather. All this came to nearly $2000 in upgrades.  All seatbelts work properly. I have used a reflective sunshield to protect the dashboard surface and it still looks new. One or two of the interior shots to show the dash and doors were taken before the new vinyl interior was installed; the front seats had seat covers at that time. The other shots show the newer interior.

The convertible top operates perfectly, but I did not use it often so the top shows little wear. The seal is tight along the windshield edge and convertible top. (see photo)

Issues

The engine has a minor oil leak from the rear main seal, so I just watch the oil level periodically.  The cylinder head gaskets are tight with no leaks. Power steering pump and power brake lines were checked just this month.

Front passenger power window does not lower.  The rear windows work fine.  The driver window does lower and raise but the rear guide track is loose and you have to adjust the window in the up position to get a good seal with the top rubber molding.  A recent parking lot ding on the right rear bumper removed some paint.

There is an electronic module that controls the tachometer and the digital odometer, and this works intermittently. I recorded the mileage last week when it came on. A little humor here is appropriate! The speedometer, gas gauge and coolant temperature work properly. The horn does not work; may just be a bad electrical connection.  The original CD player is inoperative.

The title is clear and waiting to be signed over to its new owner.  I live in southwest Orlando off Dr. Phillips Drive.  The license tag has been transferred from the Sebring to the Lincoln.  You are welcome to test drive it outside the neighborhood if you bring a current tag.

Feel free to email me with any questions.  Cash is best for this transaction. No checks.

The minivan, reinvented | 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid First Drive

Fri, Dec 2 2016

In the 1980s, minivans succeeded station wagons as the vehicle of choice to move families. The Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, and Plymouth Voyager broke that ground, and Chrysler has owned the segment for most of its existence. Though still popular with practical types, minivans have been ceding ground to crossovers for a while, and after 30 years, minivan evolution has slowed, with only the occasional noteworthy feature like a built-in vacuum making headlines. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the next big idea in the segment. In fact, we think its plug-in hybrid powertrain is the biggest minivan idea since the original. Yes, we're excited about a hybrid people mover. For 2017, Chrysler has reworked, refocused, and renamed its minivan effort, ditching the Town & Country moniker in lieu of the Pacifica nameplate. The odd recycled name aside, it's not only far superior to Chrysler's outgoing minivan, but, with most of the competition several years old, the new Pacifica is easily the current class leader. But while the minivan's practicality is undeniable, they're not always the most efficient. It's a wonder, then, that no competitor has packaged a hybrid system into a minivan before – especially Toyota, given its dominance in hybrid everything else. Toyota does offer a hybrid minivan in its home market, but the Sienna's only calling card is that it's now the sole American van to offer all-wheel drive, something Chrysler gave up when it started hiding the seats in the floor years ago. Owing in part to its newness, the non-hybrid Pacifica was already one of the most fuel-efficient minivans on the market, with ratings of 28 miles per gallon highway, 18 city, and 22 combined. Add in the hybrid equipment, with its 16-kWh battery pack providing 30 miles of electric-only range, and the new Pacifica Hybrid achieves an astounding 84 MPGe, trouncing everything else in the segment (because, again, it's the only hybrid van). When working as a hybrid and not in EV mode, the Pacifica Hybrid nets a combined rating of 32 mpg. On a full tank and a full charge, it has a range of 566 miles. The hybridized version weighs 650 pounds more than a standard Pacifica. That's after some of the added weight from batteries and motors has been offset by a hood, sliding doors, and liftgate made from aluminum instead of steel. The suspension has been adjusted well enough that you don't really notice the added mass driving down the road.

Weekly Recap: Marchionne's Manifesto again calls for industry consolidation

Sat, May 2 2015

Sergio Marchionne isn't taking no for an answer. Despite public rebuffs from General Motors and Ford, the leader of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles continues to push for consolidation within the auto industry. His latest assertion came Wednesday when he said a combination of FCA with another automaker could net savings of $5 billion or more annually. No, this isn't about selling his company, he claimed, it's about cutting costs. Put simply, the auto industry wastes money, Marchionne said during FCA's earnings conference call. Companies invest billions to develop basic components that all cars use, but many consumers don't care how they work or recognize the differences. "About half of this is really relevant in terms of positioning the car in the marketplace," he said. "The other half, in our view, is stuff which is neither visible to the consumer nor is it relevant to the consumer." In 2014, top automakers spent more than $100 million on product development, FCA estimated. Marchionne said consolidation could save up to $1 billion on powertrains alone, noting that almost every automaker offers four- and six-cylinder engines. Not everyone has to make their own, he contended. "The consumer could not give a flying leap whose engines we are using because they are irrelevant to the buying decision." That's pretty provocative for enthusiasts, but less so for average consumers. Still, there are major differences in power and efficiency ratings, even among similar engines. Skeptics could argue consolidation would also weaken competition and reduce choices for car buyers. Marchionne stressed his presentation, curiously entitled Confessions of a Capital Junkie, wouldn't require closing factories or dealerships. It's not his final "big deal" as CEO, intent to sell FCA, or a way to elevate his company up the automotive food chain. He claims he wants to fundamentally change the industry and its habit for burning cash. "The horrible part about this, and the thing that I find most offensive, is that the capital consumption rate is duplicative," he said. "It doesn't deliver real value to the consumer and it is in its purest form, economic waste." FCA facing class-action lawsuit over Grand Cherokee shifters

Fri, Jun 24 2016

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now facing a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit over the recalled shifter design in the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. Grand Cherokee owners, galvanized by Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin's fatal accident, filed the suit. According to The Wall Street Journal, the owners allege that FCA concealed the shifter's problems. On top of restitution, the class action suit is demanding a court order force FCA to issue a do-not-drive warning to owners of affected vehicles until it fixes the problem. FCA started distributing a software fix to dealers last week – according to the WSJ, the update will add more warnings about the shifter's position and will automatically kick the vehicle into park if the driver steps out. FCA's shifter problems have been bubbling under the surface as part of the company's recall issues. The US government dinged FCA with a $105 million fine last year for its recall practices (or lack thereof) last year, but things have exploded this week after Yelchin's death. The 27-year-old, best known for playing Ensign Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek film series, was killed after his 2015 Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned the actor against a security gate. According to Jeep CEO Mike Manley, the company will dispatch engineers to analyze Yelchin's vehicle. Related Video:
