1968 Chrysler Newport Custom 2 Door Hardtop

383 c.i. V8 w/ Torqueflight 727 Automatic Transmission

Running project.

I originally bought this car as a donor for parts for my other '68 Newport, but it is just too complete for me to start tearing it down for parts.

It has the 383 BB engine w/2bbl carb. The engine runs strong but it's been sitting parked in my yard for over a year and could use a tune up. Transmission shifts smoothly. Mechanically I think it's sound, but I would want to tow it because I haven't gotten around to checking the brake system.

Body is very straight and all the glass is good. The only rust is in the hood and trunk lid, but I have a rust free hood and trunk lid I purchased from Desert Valley Autos that I will include with the car.

Interior-wise it's going to need upholstery, carpet and a headliner. All the gauges and lights function and everything is there except for the radio.

I would be happy to send additional pictures upon request.

This would be a great car for a Mopar or Chrysler enthusiast to restore, or if you want a ratrod muscle car there wouldn't be much you would need to do at all. I take my other Newport to cruise-ins all the time and the car always gets a lot of interest.

I should also add that I never got the title transferred over from the previous owner. I guess it would need to be sold with a bill of sale. I'm new to Arizona and not familiar with the regulations, but apparently you can't transfer a title unless you register the vehicle, and since I wasn't registering it I never got around to it. Ebay doesn't have a selection for that so I had to list it as a "clear" title, which I guess it is...it just hasn't been transferred.

Bids from bidders with zero feedback, low feedback scores, or any history of non-payment will not be allowed.

This vehicle is for sale locally, and seller reserves the right to end this online auction at any time.

Thank you.

Federal grand jury issues subpoenas to U.S. FCA dealers

Wed, Jul 27 2016

Despite an attempt to clarify and backtrack, it seems the investigation into Fiat Chrysler Automobile's false sales reporting is picking up steam. According to Automotive News, FCA dealers and regional offices have received subpoenas ordering them to supply documents and testimony to a grand jury in Detroit. Of course, the dealers are objecting to the request. They claim the subpoenas are too broad and would require them to hand over too much personal information, like personal phone numbers of dealer employees going back years. The group wants to make it clear that FCA has clarified its sales reporting and that the issue is with the manufacturer, not dealers. The dealers say that FCA employee records and testimony should be enough. It's rumored that a dealer group is the one that sparked the investigation in the first place. FCA confirmed on July 18 that it indeed was under investigation by a number of federal agencies. Although they've clarified their position regarding sales reporting, the fraud investigation continues full steam. Related Video:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.

Weekly Recap: FCA hit with record fine as NHTSA crackdown continues

Sat, Aug 1 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration slapped Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with a record fine this week that could reach $105 million. The punishment comes after NHTSA found problems with the automaker's execution of 23 recalls that affect more than 11 million vehicles. The consent agreement, announced Sunday, calls for FCA to pay a $70-million cash fine and requires the company to spend at least $20 million over a three-year period on industry outreach programs and to beef up old recall campaigns. Failure to comply will result in another $15-million fine. FCA also agreed to federal oversight, which includes an independent monitor to oversee the company's recalls. The $70-million cash fine equals a penalty NHTSA levied on Honda in January. "Fiat Chrysler's pattern of poor performance put millions of its customers and the driving public at risk," NHTSA administrator Mark Rosekind said in a statement. "This action will provide relief to owners of defective vehicles, will help improve recall performance throughout the auto industry, and gives Fiat Chrysler the opportunity to embrace a proactive safety culture." FCA called the deal a "consensual resolution," but admitted that it "failed to timely provide an effective remedy" during certain recalls. "We are intent on rebuilding our relationship with NHTSA and we embrace the role of public safety advocate," the company said in a statement. The announcement kicked off a busy week for the automaker. NHTSA agreed FCA did not need to recall 4.7 million vehicles after an investigation failed to find defects with a power module used in some Jeep, Dodge, and Ram vehicles. A Georgia judge also reduced a civil verdict involving a death in a Jeep Grand Cherokee crash. Amid all of that, the company reported net profit of about 333 million euros, or $364 million in the second quarter on Thursday. OTHER NEWS & NOTES FCA ramps up Hellcat production Despite a decidedly legal and financial week for FCA, there was still time for the performance side of the business to briefly grab the spotlight. The automaker is more than doubling its production of the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats in response to strong demand. The order bank opens the second week of August and production begins in September. FCA will finish up its scheduled 2015 model-year Hellcat builds, and cancel any "unscheduled" versions, though customers will get discounted pricing for 2016.
