Up for auction is a very clean and original 1965 Chrysler Newport "Six Window" Town Sedan.  No Reserve!  Only 12,000 of these were originally produced.  It was called the six window Town Sedan because it has a window behind the C-pillar, making a total of 6 side windows.   This car is equipped with it's original 383-2BBL V8, and original 727 Torque-Flite automatic transmission.  The car has an original 72,000 miles.  I have owned this car since 2004 and in that time I have maintained it's current very clean cosmetic condition.  The paint was professionally repainted the exact factory "French Ivory" color by the previous owner a few years before I bought the car.  Upon close inspection, one would think it was original paint because all of the chrome trim and moldings were removed prior to paint, so no over-spray around edges etc giving the car a very neat and clean appearance.  The paint is smooth and clean, but some light chips and nicks from driving it over the years.  It is a rust free, very straight body and was never in an accident nor does it appear that body work was done to the car.  The underside of the car is also very clean, the trunk is also rock solid.  It's an original Midwest car, a true survivor.  It's originally from Rensselaer, Indiana where it spent most of it's life.  All Chrome trim is bright and clean with no pitting, glass is clean and no cracks.  The car also has it's original wheels with correct original wheel covers.  The tires are older, but in very good condition with no dry rotting.
To make the car completely road worthy, I did a total overhaul on the brakes back in 2005 with brand new stainless brake lines from Inline Tube.  The lines were bent to the original factory specs, so they fit in all of the clips and routed exactly like the original lines.  All new wheel cylinders and brake hoses, master cylinder and shoes as well.  This car is equipped with 4 wheel drum brakes and it stops perfectly straight.  I also had the fuel tank reconditioned at the same time and also installed all new stainless steel fuel lines, also from inline tube.
The mechanical condition of the engine is excellent.  It is essentially an undisturbed engine compartment.  About the only thing that was done to the engine was repainted valve covers to the original mopar teal blue engine color.  It even features it's original factory date coded spark plug wires and radiator hoses which are still soft and pliable, still held in place by the original corbin clamps!  The distributor cap is even original, also in very good condition.  Points and condenser have been replaced as necessary, including new spark plugs shortly after I bought the car.  The originality of this car reflects that it has been well cared for, not neglected.  With this kind of originality, it makes the car a great reference vehicle which I've tried to maintain as much as possible. In the 10 years I've owned it as a summer cruiser, it has always been reliable and starts well.  The engine runs clean and does not use oil.  The carb is working properly, including the choke, so it starts well when it's cold and runs in high idle like it should.  The battery is about 2 years old.  The car also features newer shocks all the way around.
This car is an outstanding highway vehicle.  Extremely comfortable, power steering is great and with all of the large windows around you, it makes for excellent visibility.  The car accelerates and drives like a new car.  The seats are very comfortable and are not sprung, giving very good and comfortable support.
Looking at the interior, it too is all original.  A very plain car as far as option go.  The only power options it has would be power steering.  In fact, it's even factory radio delete, very unusual for a Chrysler!  The car was never smoked in, the ash trays are still like new and no burn marks on coil of the original cigarette lighter. The only flaws with the interior is a split in the fabric near the edge of the vinyl on the driver side as seen in the photos. It's important to note that the car has been like this for the 10 years I've owned it, and interestingly, it has not gotten worse as you'd expect.  It's a very durable fabric. An additional flaw to be pointed out is that the wind lacing around the drivers door is also frayed in one spot, but all of these materials can still be ordered fortunately.  Otherwise, it's a very clean interior.  The headliner is perfect.  The instrument panel dash pad is clean and free of cracks.  Everything inside the car works excellent as it should.  All window mechanisms are working smooth, all doors open and close solidly and locks work.  The heater/defroster works. Horn works.  The directional signal works like it should as do all interior and exterior lights.  The fuel gauge is also working and accurate.  The variable speed windshield wiper and pump are also working as they should.  The speedometer is also accurate and works with no noise or fluttering.
I have kept full documentation of the maintenance I've done on this car over the years and also have some of the original documentation and manuals that came with the car, but do not have any original sales papers when it was bought new.  It was built at the Chrysler assembly plant in Newark, Delaware.  The 1965 Chryslers are such well built machines and I'm sure the new owner will be pleased with it as I have for the last 10 years.
There are no surprises or hidden issues with this excellent car.  It has never seen hack work, all electrical is excellent factory original and untouched.  The car shows excellent and again, is a pleasure to drive.  It's turn key and ready to go anywhere.  The car is located in Downers Grove, IL, about 20 miles west of Chicago.  Please message with any questions.  Thank you

Ford F-150 bumps Camry from top of Cars.com American Made Index

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

With July 4th just around the corner, what better time could there be for Cars.com to announce that the Ford F-150 is the Most American car of 2013? This may be especially true since it was the Toyota Camry, a car produced by a company based in Japan, that had held the top spot from 2009 to 2012.
Cars.com compiles its Most American list by considering the amount of parts each vehicle uses that come from America, where it's final assembly takes place and how many units per year are sold. "While the assembly point and domestic parts content of the F-150 didn't change from 2012-2013, vehicle sales are responsible for bumping the F-150 to the top spot," according to Patrick Olsen, Editor-in-Chief of Cars.com.
As far as automakers go (as opposed to individual models), Toyota retains the top spot it held in 2012, with General Motors, Chrysler, Ford and Honda (in that order) rounding out the list. The motivation behind this list each year, according to Olsen, is "to help car shoppers understand that 'American-Made' extends beyond just the Detroit three" and because "a study we conducted in 2012 indicated that 25 percent of shoppers surveyed preferred to buy American."

Next Chrysler minivan spied inside and out

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Chrysler isn't supposed to unveil the next-generation Town & Country until the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, but FCA is hard at work getting the minivan ready for launch. Our spies recently caught prototypes on the road and took copious photos of the interior and exterior, giving us an early idea what to expect from the future family-hauler. These shots make it pretty clear that FCA's engineers aren't done working on the next T&C yet, and all of the camouflage on the outside makes any styling changes very difficult to spot. However, the company is testing the future version with a current one, and the new design appears to have harder angles. One intriguing picture clearly shows the Dodge logo on the back of the minivan. The Dodge Grand Caravan is supposed to be killed off for 2016, though. We've also heard the next-generation minivan will get a plug-in hybrid variant, which was reportedly confirmed last week. The interior is slightly less concealed than the outside, but development is still ongoing in there, too. It's easy to spot the familiar infotainment screen from other FCA products, and there's just a peek at the T&C's instrument cluster, including the design for the tachometer. A rotary dial gearshift also appears to be in the center console, similar to the Chrysler 200. Even at this early stage, it appears that FCA is trying to take the next T&C a little more upmarket compared to the current iteration. The move fits well with earlier rumors of the price increasing for the future model. Related Video:

Chrysler, Nissan minivans earn 'dire' crash test results, says IIHS [w/video]

Fri, Nov 21 2014

First introduced in 2012, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small-overlap frontal crash test has become the bane of many auto engineers' existence. It's a particularly steep design challenge because it forces just 25 percent of a vehicle's front end to take the brunt of a 40-mile-per-hour impact. The newly released results of four family-minded minivans underscore just how difficult the crash test is: only one scored an Acceptable rating, and the other three did very poorly. The 2008-2015 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, plus the 2011-2015 Nissan Quest, all received Poor ratings in the test, the IIHS' lowest possible score. The three of them showed significant crash intrusion into the driver's area. The dummy in the Nissan actually had to be cut out of the vehicle, with an IIHS spokesperson remarking, "the structure collapsed like a house of cards." In the Fiat Chrysler Automobile vans, the steering wheels moved out of the way, making the airbag less effective and letting the driver's head hit the dashboard. While it was not actually crashed, the agency is also giving the 2009-12 Volkswagen Routan a Poor score because it shares a structure with the FCA models. The newly released results of four minivans underscore just how difficult the small-offset crash test is. The refreshed 2015 Toyota Sienna (shown), conversely, earned an Acceptable rating and is also a Top Safety Pick+ because of its optional forward collision warning and automatic braking system. While the crash test dummy moved around during the impact more than the agency would have liked, sensors showed a low risk of injuries. The IIHS tested the Honda Odyssey last year, and it earned a Good overall score, the agency's best ranking. It's also a Top Safety Pick+ vehicle. The only member of the minivan segment left to test is the latest Kia Sedona, and the Institute is reportedly waiting a little longer for Kia to make changes to improve the model's performance. When reached for comment, Nissan spokesperson Steve Yaeger provided Autoblog with the following statement: "Nissan is committed to vehicle safety and believes that consumers should have information about crash protection so they can make educated buying decisions. Nissan is proud of the 2014 Quest's "good" rating in the IIHS front moderate overlap and side impact tests as well as a "good" head restraint rating.
