New Yorker, 440-hp, 727, Tnt, 8.75 Sure-grip, E86, U-code on 2040-cars
Jamestown, New York, United States
INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION You are viewing a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker, equipped with its
orignal "numbers-matching" (engine and transmission stampings)
"U" code (E86 on fender tag), 440-HP (which stands for "High
Performance", and "HP" is stamped on the block ID pad) V8, mated
to a 727 "TorqueFlite" transmission, and a 3.23:1 ratio, 8.75 inch "Sure-Grip" rear end. The vehicle has just under 98,000 original
miles. This vehicle is being offered with no reserve. Please plan your
bid strategies accordingly as whenever auction ends, vehicle will belong to a new owner (see auction success considerations below for more information). Let me give you a few Mopar marketing names to start:
"TNT" in the Chryslers, "Magnum" in the Dodges, and
"Super Commando" in the Plymouths.
All these names refer to the 370 horsepower, 480 ft.
lbs. of torque, 9.5:1 compression engine available in the Imperials, the
Challengers, the Cudas, the Chargers, and the pursuit-class police cars in
1971. Recall that the last higher-compression, big-block B/RB engines
were produced in 1971. I bought this car a decade ago from the original owner with the intention
to restore it. The vehicle did not need very much mechanical work aside
from a tune-up and carburetor rebuilt. However,
since it has not been on the road in over three years, it will need to be gone through to be completely
roadworthy (if you are the winner, you should plan to trailer it to your destination). The vehicle easily moves under its own power and can be driven onto/off of a trailer or car
carrier. Options on this New Yorker worth noting are dual exhaust power
seats, power windows, tilt-telescoping steering column, four speaker stereo
(poor reception), air conditioning (system intact but not blowing cold air),
and power door locks (non functioning). I do have the factory build
sheet. The paint is 'Tahitian Walnut Metallic" and it has had at
least one low quality repaint in its lifetime. If restoration is planned,
it will need to be repainted as there are faded areas and assorted other imperfections
in both the finish and the sheet metal (dings, scratches, etc). The condition of the floors, trunk, and frame is shown and there is
no rust through, damage, or repairs that would affect structural integrity.
The only rust area visible is a quarter-sized hole in the rear valence
just above the passenger side exhaust pipe (the result of exhaust gas
condensation from the tailpipe position). The glass is all good and the trim and bumpers are in fair driver-quality
consistent with the age of the vehicle. Although
not shown, all the trim pieces around the rear windows are now affixed to the
vehicle. I did install a new aftermarket
carpet, new mufflers and tailpipes, and a new vinyl roof. The dash is
straight and headliner is intact. The original
vinyl seats have several defects as shown. This Chrysler New Yorker is a rare piece of American turnpike-cruising iron, with one of the most powerful engines ever put into a passenger car up to that time: the "TNT" 440-HP, the same powertrain as the legendary Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge-branded muscle and police cars from a bygone era. I hope a potential new buyer will take the slow, steady affordable approach to the restoration of this car so it can chew up turnpikes like it did in the old days. Alternatively, if you intend to part it out for a Dodge or Plymouth "muscle car" project, or any other reasons, that’s your choice of course too. I mean where else are you going to find a real, matching, unmolested original 440-HP TNT engine, 727 transmission, and 3.23 Sure-Grip laying around these days? AUCTION SUCCESS CONSIDERATIONS I have established a reasonable reserve (reserve will not be revealed while the auction is running) for this 1971 Chrysler New Yorker. Please consider bidding during the auction to the extent and level you deem appropriate and based on whatever factors are important to you. Again this vehicle is being offered with no reserve. Please plan your bid strategies accordingly, because if the auction runs its full course this vehicle will belong to the highest bidder. Vehicle is also for sale locally so please note that I reserve the right to end this auction early at my sole discretion. . I am sorry in advance for the following realizing it will not apply to the vast majority of responsible Ebay members: Encountering non-paying or unresponsive bidders is a very disruptive event that makes the auction experience quite unpleasant for both the seller and any legitimate potential buyer(s). Please BE SURE BEFORE YOU BID that you have done whatever you need to do to STAND BEHIND the actual bid(s) YOU MADE and were recorded during the auction. Because of a tendency to simply misunderstand or just outright ignore Ebay and seller auction requirements, bidders with less than 5 (five) feedback ratings may, at my discretion have their bids canceled (I may or may not try to contact you before canceling your bid) and then blocked from further bidding on this auction unless they contact me in advance of bidding. Bidders who make and then cancel their bid(s) will also be blocked from further bidding on this auction. INSPECTION AND WARRANTY INFORMATION Please ask any questions that you may have that may not have been answered by this detailed listing narrative and visual media attachments. My listings are constructed in complete sentences in order to communicate my knowledge of important facts and to encourage independent thoughts and then any questions from interested parties. But respectfully, I do not know what is important to you that may not have been discussed or depicted herein unless you ask me. Any and all relevant and appropriate questions you submit while the auction is running will be answered promptly and as thoroughly as possible by email only to ensure clarity of any correspondences. Given that this is a used vehicle, please do not have unreasonable expectations as to its current condition or future condition under your ownership. Also given its obvious age, this vehicle represents whatever standards of design, quality, and workmanship that existed when it was built, so comparisons to improved build standards of today's vehicles is not appropriate. Your bid forms the basis for a binding, legally enforceable contract. As such, if you require it, please make all pre-purchase inspections (at the sole expense of the bidder) before committing to purchase the vehicle. Inspections can be done by appointment only by you or your designated inspection service. Although I believe I have described and depicted (with numerous high-resolution photographs) this vehicle accurately, please note that this vehicle is sold "as-is, where-is” with no express or implied warranties or guarantees of any kind. PAYMENT AND STORAGE A $500 deposit is required from the winning bidder, due electronically via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, to hold the vehicle. I will not be accepting trades. Full payment is due within 3 days of auction end via cash, wire transfer, or certified bank check (drawn on a major US bank). Clear title in my name is in hand and vehicle can be scheduled for buyer pickup by appointment at anytime after full payment is received and cleared. I can hold the vehicle for 15 days (or longer, if weather or other uncontrollable factors emerge) at no charge to the winning bidder after the auction (the charge is $5.00 per day after 15 days). Thank you for viewing my auction. |

Woodward Dream Cruise Photo Gallery | Classics and American muscle
Sun, Aug 21 2022The 2022 running of the Woodward Dream Cruise just went down, and we were there from morning to evening drinking in the sweet sights and pre-emissions exhaust fumes. Yes, it’s a little smelly on Woodward Ave. this time of year. Just like always, the Dream Cruise invites all comers to cruise their machines on Woodward from Ferndale, MI to Pontiac, MI. Everybody is invited, but the original intent of the Dream Cruise was to highlight classic American muscle cars. YouÂ’ll see plenty of those in our mega gallery above, but weÂ’ve sprinkled it with a bunch of other vehicle types, such as modern muscle and other intriguing American vehicles. Similar to years past, though, sometimes the classics arenÂ’t the most entertaining thing to look at on Woodward. ThatÂ’s why weÂ’ll have other mega galleries coming soon, highlighting the weird cars and (great) dogs of the Cruise, all the imports and exotics you can imagine and a special one for all the trucks of Woodward — perhaps even more so than in years past, the truck population on Dream Cruise day was quite high. Click through above to see all the classics you wouldÂ’ve seen had you been roadside on the day of the cruise. And if you missed this yearÂ’s event, make sure you check out what happens next year. You wonÂ’t be alone, as itÂ’s estimated that over 1 million people attend the Dream Cruise to either watch from the side of the road or to sit in the most glorious traffic jam in the world. Chrysler museum to open one last time on June 8
Thu, 18 Apr 2013Due to a lack of funding, Chrysler closed the doors to its Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI back in December, but it sounds like the facility will be open next month for one last hurrah. According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, the Chrysler Museum will be open to the public one last time on June 8 for the annual Chrysler Employee Motorsport Association car show.
While the car show will take place in the museum's parking lot from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on June 8 with a theme dedicated to muscle cars past and present, all attendees will be able to be among the last people to tour the museum - with free admission. The museum is known for housing some of the more important production and concept cars from Chrysler's history. Check out the car show's flyer for more information.
Vans aren't glamorous, but they're key to EU blessing FCA-PSA merger
Thu, Jun 18 2020MILAN/PARIS — Their silhouettes don't stir dreams of adventure like a sports car or trendy SUV, but vans are a rare source of profit for European carmakers, which is why EU regulators are focused on them as they decide whether to back an industry mega-merger. European competition regulators are worried that Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA's proposed merger may harm competition in small vans. With a total of 755,000 vans sold last year in Europe, the combined Fiat Chrysler (FCA) and PSA would get a market share of around 34%, based on industry data, more than double that of Renault and Ford, with shares around 16% each. Volkswagen and Daimler follow with market shares of 12% and 10% respectively. "Commercial vans are important for individuals, SMEs and large companies when it comes to delivering goods or providing services to customers," European Union competition chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement, announcing an in-depth investigation into the proposed merger. "They are a growing market and increasingly important in a digital economy where private consumers rely more than ever on delivery services." Dario Duse, a managing director at consultancy firm AlixPartners, said demand for vans was not based on people's disposable income, as for cars, but rather on GDP and industrial trends, and in particular the logistics industry, where big players such as Amazon or DHL operate. "Logistics is a business segment which is having a significant growth, for several reasons including e-commerce, where you need efficient and agile vans for interurban and city deliveries," he said. "LCVs (light commercial vehicles) may recover faster than passengers cars in the post-COVID-19 phase." Sales of vans up to 3.5 tonnes in Europe amounted to 2.2 millions vehicles last year, compared to 15.8 million for passenger cars, according to data provided by the European Auto Industry Association (ACEA). The light commercial vehicles (LCVs) market may be secondary in terms of volumes, but it remains highly profitable in an industry where margins are constantly under pressure. Margins are generally higher than on passenger cars, up to 5-10 additional percentage points, AlixPartners says. "With LCVs you don't have to fulfill a series of consumer expectations that drive additional complexity and costs, such as for interiors. LCV customers are more rational and business driven," Duse said. And while electrification in heavy trucks is complicated, it might come sooner for LCVs.
