1983 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Up for sale is a 1983 Chrysler New Yorker, Fifth Ave in gray-charcoal metallic and super sweet plush burgundy leather seats. The car has 110K miles on it. This car was a one-owner car until I purchased it one month ago. Yes, it is a Chicago car, but it was garage kept and was NOT the owners winter car. I've seen the fwd vehicle he drove in the winter, and it was ugly. This car was his baby, and it shows. If it was driven repeatedly in the winter, the car would have rusted in half long ago.
I can not keep the car because I now need the bay in my garage for building supplies for our home renovation, so my loss is someone's gain. I will not park the car on the street after all these years of being garage kept. I am gong to do my very best to describe this car, both the good and bad, so that the winner of this auction will be extremely happy with the car. So, to start out. Performance: This car runs and drives so good that it really is a pleasure to drive. The 318 packs a nice punch. The carb is in great working order. The transmission shifts excellent, nice and smooth. The temp gauge is sits right where it should be and the engine does not run hot. The alignment is excellent and the power steering pump works great. The tires are 95% new. The overall ride is excellent and the leaf springs on the rear handle all the bumps in the road. The car does not leak fluids. I had a garage install a new driver's side front brake caliper recently. Interior: All four window motors work. The ac is weak and needs a recharge. Drivers side carpet shows some wear (no rips or tears) but excellent carpet all around the rest of the car. The front seats show some wear but no tears. The back seats are amazing. The radio works, but antenna is missing the top half. The headliner is excellent, super tight all the way around. The liner on the A Pillar has faded and is no longer burgundy. Please see the pictures. The inside of the trunks is spotless, carpet is excellent. Lights: The driver's side high beam is out, you can see it in the pictures. All directional signals work. Also in the pics, see the light control lever on the dash. It works, but it might need to be tightened down some. Exterior: Overall, the exterior is great. Let me bring attention to a few things that are pictured. First, the driver's side of the car is very nice. There are a few scratches on the trunk lid (see the pics) but nothing major. There is a scratch on the passenger's side rear door, but again very minor. On the passenger's side, there are some subtle dings that I didn't even see for a few weeks. I did my best to capture them in a photo. You only see them when the light hits the car at the right angle. They actually look worse in the photo, but better to look worse then to downplay them. The vertical trim on the drivers door needs to be glued down again. The black vinyl top on the back of the roof is in excellent condition. The rear bumper has a piece of rubber that is coming off the bumper by the bumper guard, as seen in the picture. The front bumper on the driver's side has a little dent. Rust: Good news, the rust is so minor so please keep reading! No visible rust on the exterior. Fenders and quarter panels are excellent. Same with the wheel wells. Now, underneath the car, the floor pans are great. The subframe does show some surface rust, but nothing that a wire wheel can't clean up in a matter of minutes. Same for the seam where the rockers meet the floor pans, there is surface rust, but nothing that a wire wheel and a coat of paint won't fix. There is surface rust on the leaf springs, but again, no biggie. Everything under the car is SOLID, but I just want to mention this surface rust. See the pics. Passenger's Side Door: Please see the picture with the tape measure in it. This is the only rust-issue that you might want to deal with. It is at the VERY bottom of the door, and it appears that either the paint is peeling up or is it a split in the sheet metal? I will take a closer look, right now I can't tell. I will also add another photo from a different angle. About six inches down from this spot, there are two bubbles under the paint. Title: I have the original title and a Bill of Sale. I have not signed the title yet, nor have I registered the car in IL. After completion of the sale and full payment, I will work with the buyer (and depending on what state he or she lives in) and either hand over the title as it is, or if I need to register the car before handing over the title, I will do is in an expedited fashion. |

UAW may be key to forced FCA merger with GM
Wed, Jul 29 2015Sergio Marchionne doesn't give up on a business deal easily. While outwardly not much has recently been said about FCA's attempted merger with General Motors, Marchionne might be hoping to garner a powerful, new ally that could help break things wide open. The United Auto Workers retiree health care trust is the single largest shareholder of GM with 8.7 percent of the stock, and having its support would certainly improve FCA's position in getting a deal done. "Whatever happens in terms of consolidation, it would never be done without the consent and support of the UAW," Marchionne said when FCA recently began contract talks with the UAW, The Detroit News reports. The boss is also allegedly on good terms with the union president Dennis Williams. Still, using the organization for a hostile takeover could be very difficult because of the way its votes are structured. Other activist investors might already be on board, though. Marchionne believes that consolidation in the industry is vital because automakers are investing to create the same technologies. A GM/FCA merger still has many roadblocks, though, including the fact that Marchionne's company is smaller than GM. From a regulatory perspective, the size of the merged company could raise serious anti-trust concerns among regulators, according to The Detroit News. There's also the concern for lost jobs from redundant work with the two combined businesses. Even if the UAW angle doesn't work out, there are contingency plans afoot for other merger targets. According to The Detroit News speaking to anonymous insiders, FCA bigwigs have a meeting in London on Thursday to take a close look at other options. In addition to GM, they are investigating possible deals with Volkswagen and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. In the past, PSA Peugeot Citroen and multiple Asian automakers have also been brought up as partners, and UBS has reportedly been providing financial advice on what to do.
Fiat Chrysler wins top Total Quality Award for first time
Mon, Jul 20 2015The Strategic Vision Total Quality Awards are 20 years old in 2015, and Chrysler has never topped the awards before. Until now, that is. Fiat Chrysler takes the overall award on the corporate level with six segment leaders from Fiat, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram. The Fiat 500 won Small Multi-Function Car, the 500e won Small Alternative Powertrain, the Dodge Challenger tied at the top in the Specialty Coupe category alongside the very un-coupe Mini Cooper Countryman, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited took the Entry SUV category, the Dodge Durango won in Mid-Size SUV, and Ram took the overall in Best Non-Luxury Brand. The accolade means FCA has gone from one segment winner in 2010 to overall victory in five years. Cars have gotten so good, says Strategic Vision, that it is harder than ever to win. In fact, says the group, 18 years ago 85 percent of all vehicle brands had more than half a problem per vehicle. This year, no brand has more than half a problem per vehicle. The organization measures "over 155 specific aspects of the customer's experience," and scores are based on input from more than 46,000 customers. Other notables in and near the winner's circle include Volkswagen and General Motors, who tied for second place on the corporate scale, one point behind FCA. The Mini Cooper Roadster scored the highest of any model, the Corvette Stingray Convertible and Coupe scored the second- and third-highest. The Chevrolet Colorado is the first domestic Standard Pickup winner in more than ten years, and the Nissan Titan carried the Full-Size Pickup category. The press release below has all the details on how winners and losers are selected, and the full list of automakers and how they finished. "The Customer's 'Total' Experience Defines Quality, Fiat Chrysler Scores Highest in Total Quality," says Strategic Vision The 2015 Total Quality Awards® SAN DIEGO, Friday, July 17, 2015 — Unknown to many, when some consumer research firms rank a car company's quality performance they often do so by simply "counting problems." In the past, this may have been acceptable, but in today's modern and efficient manufacturing world the difference between the worst brand and best brand is LESS than half-a-problem per vehicle. Thus, any "quality ranking" based on this method is severely lacking in the complete picture of the "Total" Quality experience that customers actually use to judge their product ownership.
Renault wants to merge with Nissan, then go after Fiat Chrysler
Wed, Mar 27 2019The late Sergio Marchionne used to say consolidation would be the only way to compete against the biggest global carmakers. The company looks certain to fulfill that goal, but perhaps not in the way he intended. The Financial Times reports that Renault wants to begin merger talks with Nissan in the next 12 months. Assuming a merger gets completed, the plan is for the combined company to then pursue another merger, with Fiat Chrysler a prime target. Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi have been busy since cutting ties with ex-alliance boss Carlos Ghosn. They formed a new alliance board with Renault chairman Jean-Dominique Senard at the helm, Renault has shrunk the size of its board while Nissan added more outside directors, and the two agreed to a new governance structure to ease operational decision making. All three automakers have walked away from Ghosn-era goals to sell 14 million cars and find 10 billion euros in savings by 2022. New strategic plans for all three car companies are in the works. With stability in sight, it's said Senard wants to succeed where Ghosn failed — a full-fledged merger between Renault and Nissan with talks to begin "as soon as possible." Ghosn's pursuit of a merger last year in attempt to make the 20-year-old alliance "irreversible" is part of what led to his downfall, with Nissan executives including CEO Hiroto Saikawa against the push. The new effort is presented as larger scale being the only way for the alliance to take on companies like Volkswagen and Toyota. But the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi trio sold 10.76 million cars around the world last year, second to Volkswagen with 10.83 million sales, ahead of Toyota with 10.39 million. If Nissan hadn't suffered a 2.8 percent dip in sales, the alliance would have taken the top spot. If a little scale is good that means more is better, right? Pulling Fiat Chrysler into the alliance would add around 5 million annual sales, and would be another move in Ghosn's footsteps. The former honcho is said to have "held talks with FCA" about some kind of union within the past three years. The French government, which has a 15 percent stake in Renault and double voting rights, shut down the initiative. It's not clear if FCA will be an independent company by the time a potential Nissan-Renault merger closed, though.
